Conklin BCHR Vest Pen – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

20161018_131955

Conklin BCHR Vest Pen – Wet Noodle  (On Ebay)

This is a nice little black hard rubber, Toledo made, Conklin vest size pen. The hard rubber has faded to a dark brown and the chasing has worn some but still has texture. The Conklin imprint is also a little worn, but again has texture and is easily readable. The gold filled trim is in excellent shape with no brassing and little to no scratching. This pen features a 14kt. Conklin #2 Toledo made nib. The nib does have a very small crack coming from the right corner of the crescent breather hole, and their is only a thin layer of tipping left. However, the flex on this pen is a wet noodle, almost paintbrush easy flex that goes up to a huge 2.2mm. It writes normally very smooth and quite wet. It works best with wet, lubricating inks like this Sailor Nioi-Sumire, but other inks work as well, though you might have to slow up a bit.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex! (SOLD)

20161018_131319

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay) Here is a lovely Eversharp Skyline in burgundy with a gold-filled cap. This Skyline is in great condition. The trim has minimal scratching and no plate loss. The body also does not have much of the light scratching typical of these pens. There is one ring on the barrel where a price tag once wrapped the barrel for a long time. The body around the tag faded slightly leaving a darker ring. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a typical, ultra wet and smooth writing F but feels more like a M (0.5mm) Skyline nib. It flexes pretty easily up to 1.8mm and has some good responsiveness. Great Skyline to add to your collection.

Sheaffer Balance Lifetime Triumph Nib – Standard Size

20161018_1253530

Sheaffer Balance  (On Ebay)

Here is a Standard size (1000) Sheaffer Lifetime Balance with a Triumph nib. The pen is in very good condition. There is light scratching throughout, but nothing very serious and is only noticeable upon close inspection. The gold filled trim looks good with no brassing and only minor scratching. Imprints are good and crisp. The 14kt. Triumph nib is a smooth writing XF (0.3mm) that is about a 4/10 on the wetness scale (highly subjective of course). Fantastic well made Sheaffer pen that was tailor made for long writing sessions.

Parker Rare “Jointless” Eyedropper – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_9199

Parker “Jointless” Eyedropper  – Wet Noodle (On Ebay)

Here is a rare jointless Parker eyedropper. The Jointless was an attempt to make an eyedropper that could not leak from any joint. The feed and nib are harnessed in a collar that pulls out from the barrel (no threads). You simply grab the feed and nib (with a cloth, I’d recommend) and pull it out. It removes quite easily. These pens began to be manufactured in 1899, so this was likely made in the first few years of the 1900s. The pen is in overall good condition. The body is smooth BHR (no original chasing) that is still quite black on the body, but has faded to a brown on top of the cap. Imprints are still crisp with a pat. date of 1894. The pen has an accommodation clip from 1910. It looks to be nickel plated and has some wear, but it still looks pretty good. Unfortunately, the original Lucky Curve nib was badly damaged when I found this pen. I have replaced it with a 14kt. Moore nib, and it’s a great nib. It writes nicely as an XF, but it has some great flex on it. Ease of flex is not quite paintbrush status, but it is still very easy and flexes from XF to BBB (1.8mm). The nib is fabulously responsive and snappy making high quality flex writing easy to achieve.

SIZE: 5 3/4″ Capped

NIB: Moore #2., XF to BBB (0.3mm-1.8mm),  WET NOODLE (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

  • Nib and feed ultra sonically cleaned

Waterman 52 – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

20161011_161401

Waterman 52 – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

Here is a nice Waterman 52 in BCHR. The pen is still pretty black with only minimal fading. Chasing also is quite crisp with only a minimal wear. The cap, I believe, originally belonged to a 52V as it has a hole in the top where a ring top once was. 52v’s have identical caps except for the ring top or clip placement. Since the wear on the body and cap are pretty consistent with one another, I’d say the pair have been together for a good long while. There is some slight bite marks on the top of the cap, but very slight. The lever has a bit of scuffing to the bottom of the box but otherwise looks great. Imprints are crisp. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a fantastic flex nib. It writes normally as a smooth and wet F/M (0.5mm). It has a soft and snappy flex going up to 2.0mm (BBB). This is a high end super flex nib.

SIZE:  5 3/8″ Capped

Waterman 12 Red Mottled – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

20161004_140916

Waterman 12 Eye Dropper – SUPER FLEX  (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 12 Eyedropper in red mottled hard rubber. The pen is in great overall condition. The hard rubber has faded a bit. More so on the barrel than on the cap, but still it looks pretty good for the most part. The imprint on the cap is still crisp, but worn and barely readable on the barrel. Thought the “12” is still clear. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is exceptional. The F nib feels like a delicate (in a good way) and precise writer. It’s smooth and has some character to it. It has fantastic, quality flex going from F to BBB (o.4mm-2.2mm). It is plenty wet to handle lots of flex work and has a lovely, springy, responsive action. Not quite a wet noodle, but still very good. There is the tiniest of cracks coming out   of the left side of the breather hole. You probably wouldn’t have seen it if I didn’t say something. Alas, that such a nib should have any flaw, but it’s seriously very minor.

Waterman 52 – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

20161004_140038

Waterman 52 – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

Here is another great BCHR Waterman 52. The 52’s are pens that just age so well. I actually prefer mine with some wear and fading, but to each his own. This one does have some browning, though it is still quite dark. The chasing is a worn but does have some texture. Imprints also have a little wear, but are still very readable. The nickel plated clip has some light scratching on it and some minor plate loss. The lever looks pretty good. This 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a nice and smooth XF (0.3mm). It flexes up to 1.8mm pretty easily. It does have the biggest flex range, but it does have a great bouncy feel to it. It is quite responsive and a joy to flex with.

Wahl Gold Filled Ring Top #2 Nib – Good Flex (SOLD)

20161004_140933

Wahl Gold Filled Ring Top #2 Nib- Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a nice 3 7/8″ Wahl gold-filled ring top. Overall, the pen is in good shape. There is light scratching on the body, but nothing deep or major. There is some minor brassing on the end of the barrel from posting the cap. The brassing blends well into the gold filled and is not terribly noticeable. There is also very slight brassing on the edges of the crown of the lever. The cap does post pretty tight, which is good since it holds firm but does take more pressure than usual to post. The pen is personalized with the initials H.M.W. The 14kt. Wahl #2 nib is butter smooth and a lovely writing F (0.4mm). It also has nice flex going up to 1.8mm. I have graded it “good flex,” but this is really on the border between good and super in my estimate. It flexes pretty easy to 1.5mm or so, but it lacks a bit of the responsiveness and ease of flex that a “super flex” nib has. Still, you had do some nice flex work with it.

Sheaffer Lifetime Balance Short Standard (SOLD)

Sheaffer Lifetime Balance Short Standard  (On Ebay)

Here is a Sheaffer Lifetime Balance in the red veined gray pearl celluloid. It is a short size (4 3/4″ capped) but in standard girth. The pen is in great condition. There is only very light surface scratching that is typical of most any pen of this age. The gold filled trim is in excellent condition, and the celluloid is really quite beautiful. The 14kt. Sheaffer Lifetime nib is very smooth and buttery F/M (0.5mm).

Wahl-Eversharp Doric – Super Flex (SOLD)

img_0342

Wahl-Eversharp Doric – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a lovely 1st Generation Wahl Doric Junior in Kashmir celluloid. This pen is in great condition without the crystallization that is common on these pens. There is light scratching on the body of the pen. The gold filled trim looks pretty good with a few shallow nicks here and there and with only minimal brassing on the edges of the clip, band, lever. The celluloid truly looks so much more stunning and deep in person than what the pictures can capture. It comes with a 14kt. Eversharp “Signature” nib. It writes normally as a wet, smooth fine (0.4mm). It also has some very nice flex that comes quite easily and goes up to 1.8mm. The feed is very wet, and the flow has no trouble keeping up. In fact, this Diamine Blaze Orange is one of my driest and thinnest inks that railroads in most pens, but this Doric handles it like a champ. As a result, some of my Noodlers inks which are prone to gushing were almost too wet limiting the responsiveness of the nib. A beautiful, high quality pen with some nice flex.
