 How To Buy

Typically, I sell my pens on Ebay, however, occasionally I acquire pens that are just too valuable to sell in that format. Some may eventually find their way to Ebay. Some will not. I do my best to come up with a fair price, but pricing vintage pens is very difficult. If you are interested in buying one of these pens simply email me at dannystr78@gmail.com. I will send you a Paypal invoice, at which time you have 2 days to pay. Shipping is $7.95 within the U.S. I charge my cost for international shipping, and I generally give the buyer his/ her choice of options. Pens will ship within 2 business days of payment. My normal refund policy applies. If you feel I have not described the pen well or are unhappy with my restoration work, you may return for full refund. Buyer pays return shipping.

Mabie Todd “Swan” S.F. – Super Flex

P1070441

Mabie Todd S.F. – Super Flex

Here is a very nice made in New York Mabie Todd Swan Self-filler (lever filler). The body is black chased hard rubber (BCHR) which is still quite dark with only a little fading. The chasing also looks very good, as do the imprints. The nickel-filled clip and lever have a little bit of wear on them, the ball of the clip especially, but overall they are still in a nice condition. The 14kt. Swan nib is a beauty. It presents a very smooth, soft and decently wet writing experience even though it’s an XF (0.3mm). The flex in this nib comes quite easy, though not quite at a wet noodle level, and ranges up to BBB+ (1.8mm). The responsiveness of the flex excellent rivaling or superior to many wet noodles. Overall, this is everything we love about vintages pens giving both a wonderful writing experience and the ability to switch into some fine flex work.

Harris H. Freeman Eyedropper – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

P1060627

Harris H. Freeman Eyedropper – Wet Noodle

There is a common misconception among fountain pen enthusiasts that an “off” brand or an unbranded vintage pen is inferior to, say, a Waterman eyedropper. That of course is always a possibility, but there are many, many beautiful, high quality vintage pens without a top brand printed on their side. Especially of the early era of eyedroppers. This BCHR eyedropper is from the Harris H. Freeman company of Albion, N.Y. and has a “Penanink” nib. I I was not able to track anything down on this company, but it comes with the original box that has a pen repair price list from the Waterman Co, in N.Y. Very possibly this pen was made by Waterman for H.H. Freeman Co. In any case, it has every bit the quality of a Waterman 12 and is almost identical. The BCHR is black with almost no signs of fading. The chasing is crisp. The pen looks almost brand new. The side has the imprint “The H.H.F.” after “Harris H. Freeman” I assume. The 14kt. “Penanink” nib is a phenomenal wet noodle. It writes normally as an XXF with a little feedback. Ease of flex is fantastic softly ranging up to 1.7mm with little pressure. I wouldn’t say it’s quite paintbrush soft, but it is getting close. Responsiveness is what sets this nib apart as the snap back is just phenomenal. This is nearing what you get out of a dip nib. This nib is just about everything you could want in a “wet noodle” and it comes in a “near mint” early 1900s eyedropper.

Waterman 7 “Red” Nib – Super Flex / Wet Noodle (SOLD)

P1060565

Waterman 7 “Red” Nib – Super Flex / Wet Noodle

Here is the iconic Waterman 7 in Red Ripple with the highly sought after and great all around “Red” nib. The red ripple hard rubber body on this pen is in nice condition. Very little fading can be seen. Side imprints are worn pretty smooth and mostly unreadable, though the “7” on the end of the barrel is still crisp. The gold-filled trim definitely has some wear. The clip looks pretty good with just a bit of brassing on the ball. The cap band has brassing on the top edge otherwise it looks good. And the lever looks like it was scuffed pretty good at some point in it’s life. The “Red” nib is the most well rounded nib of the 7’s offerings. It is usually a superb F with nice flex. This nib is a beautiful writer, wet and smooth, and just everything you want in a vintage nib. The flex I graded as “Super Flex” but is really on the border of Wet Noodle. Flex comes easily, is plenty wet, and has a large range going from F (0.4mm) to BBB (1.7mm). These 7s are a hot commodity with great resale value, and they really are great pens.

Waterman 12 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 12 – Wet NoodleHere is the classic Waterman 12 in chased hard rubber. The black body has faded some to a dark brown. The chasing is visible with texture but is a bit worn. The imprints still look almost new. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a rather oblique (left tine tipping is longer than the right). This makes for an italic like quality to your writing, but it’s also got some feedback. Tipping is a bit low, but it has enough to last plenty more years. The flex on this nib is quite good ranging from F (0.4mm) to BBB (1.8mm). Ease of flex I would grade as on the lower end of a wet noodle. I wouldn’t recommend this one to the newbie as the oblique nib takes some getting used to, but it can deliver some rewarding results. SOLD

Waterman 55 Wood Grain – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 55 Wood Grain – Wet Noodle

Here is a Waterman 55 in incredible condition. The 55 is significantly larger than the 52. It’s about the size of a Waterman 7. The wood grain hard rubber is in amazing condition with no signs of fading and almost as shiny as new. It’s a real treat to find one in this good of condition. The gold-filled trim shows a bit of wear but no brassing. It lacks the gold-filled band around the bottom edge of the cap typical of the wood grains and red ripples. I don’t think I’d say this is a rare feature, but it’s certainly uncommon. The imprints are good and are fairly easily readable. Then there is the nib. The 14kt. Waterman #5 is a stunner. It’s a wet F (0.5mm) that is smooth and soft. It also has so huge flex going easily up to BBBB (2.1mm)! It’s not quite a paintbrush, but it’s soft enough that it can be easily over-flexed, so use some care if you are new to the flex experience. Overall, this is just a gem of a pen. A worthy writer, a wonderful collector’s item, and superb flex pen. SOLD

Waterman Ring Top – Super Flex (SOLD)

Wahl Lapis Blue Ring Top / “Flexible” Nib – Super Flex / Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Here is a beautiful Wahl ring top in the stunning Lapis Lazuli blue. The pen is in great overall condition. The lapis blue is still very nice with little to no fading, and the black on the ends still looks new.  There are some very light surface wear that you see with normal use, but you won’t notice it unless you look very close. The gold-filled trim is also in nice condition. There is only some very, very minor brassing on the edges of the lever. The 14kt. Eversharp “Flexible” #2 nib is a lovely soft nib that writes around a 0.25mm line, so between an XXF and an XF. The fine line makes flex work even more beautiful. Ease of flex is right in between “Super Flex” and “Wet Noodle,” so high end “Super Flex” or low end “Wet Noodle.” Range of flex goes from 0.25mm to 1.7mm, so there’s a lot of line to work with. Overall, a stunning Wahl Ring Top with top notch flex.

PRICE: $339.99

SIZE:  4 3/8″ Capped

Omas Extra (Oversized) – Super Flex (SOLD)

Omas Extra (Oversized) – Super Flex  (SOLD)

Here is a vintage piston-filled Omas Extra. It’s 146mm long capped, or about 5 3/4”, and the barrel diameter is over 13mm. It is almost identical in size and style to the modern Omas Ogiva. The black celluloid looks great with only very minor surface scratches from normal use. I have replaced the piston seal which was no longer working, and it holds a lot of ink. The gold-filled trim is in great condition. The 14kt. Omas nib is really lovely. It is somehow a beautifully smooth XXF (0.2mm) with just a hind of feedback, which would be expected of so fine a nib. The flex comes pretty easy and has some nice range going up to BB (1.6mm), which is much larger than you will likely need to use as the super fine nature of the nib combines wonderfully with a sharp snap back that makes this a very responsive and crispy flex writer. This is the pen that the modern Omas’ want to be.

Wahl Gold Filled Ring Top – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Wahl Gold-Filled Ring Top – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Here is a gorgeous Wahl gold-filled ring top with a Wahl #2 nib. The light wear on this pen is just what would be expected from normal use. There is some scuffing of body near the section from threading the cap on and off as well as some on the barrel end from posting the cap. There is a scratch on the bottom of the barrel near the section that actually goes into the threads on the section (see pics). The Wahl #2 nib is a rare XXF with fantastic flex ability. The 0.2mm ultra fine nib does have a bit of a scratch for normal writing as would be expected, and it flexes with ease up to BBB (1.7mm). The ease of flex is not paintbrush like. There is more control to it than that. The super fine point also allows this nib to feel wonderfully responsive. If you are looking for big, sloppy flex, this isn’t the nib. If you are looking for precision flex, this is it. This nib is worth more than the body. It is an “artist” like nib in the ultra portable and durable body of gold-filled ring top.

Waterman 12 1/2 V.S. – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 12 1/2 V.S – Wet Noodle

Here is a very special pen. It’s a Waterman 12 1/2 safety pen in near mint condition. If you don’t what a safety pen is, I recommend you look it up before considering purchasing. It has a very unique filling system. This one is restored with new cork seals. The pen is nearly as shiny black as the day it was purchased and imprints are also near perfect with little to no signs of wear.
On top of the impressive pen is an even more impressive nib. This is a artist like wet noodle with an XXF point. It functions about as close as you can find to a dip nib. Normally, it writes as an XXF (0.2mm), but really you aren’t going to want to use it for normal writing. The soft flex and ultra fine point combine to make this rather scratchy. For flexing, you can’t find better. This isn’t meant to be the paintbrush noodle, but rather the precision flex needed for high quality artistry. The swells top out around 1.5mm with ultra responsive action. I would not advise this pen for beginners unless you are ready to put in the careful work to learn how to use it well. A safety pen in this condition combined with one of the most sought after vintage nib styles is a rare treat. I’m having hard time even wanting to sell this one. SOLD

Omas Extra – Super Flex / Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Omas Extra – Super Flex / Wet Noodle

Here is a vintage Omas Extra in black celluloid. It has the trademark Omas band and roller clip. I love the way Omas celluloid feels in the hand. It’s hard to explain, but this pen is no different and has the classic Omas feel. The body has light surface scratches from normal use. The gold-filled trim looks pretty good, but does have some brassing/ pitting on the lever, and a bit on the edges of the clip and band. The 14kt.Omas Extra nib is wonderful. It writes as a very wet XF/F. It has a buttery smooth sweet spot and is quite wet as typical for Omas. The flex is also lovely coming very easily with outstanding range and nice snap back. I would label this flex as somewhere between the higher side of “super flex” and the lower side of “wet noodle.” It’s a high quality flex nib on classic Italian pen. SOLD

SIZE: 4 1/2″ Capped

Waterman 52  – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 52 – Wet Noodle

This is a very nice example of a Waterman 52 in BCHR. It has near mint level of chasing and imprints. Virtually no signs of wear. It does, however, have some fading to the hard rubber. It’s mostly a dark blackish color with some browning fades. Most people would look at it and say it’s black though. There is a completely unfaded ring on the barrel where a price tag remained for a long while. This probably sat in a shop display unused for many, many years. The nickel trim looks good. Very little signs of use there either. Most impressive of all is the 14kt. Waterman #2 nib that is a highly coveted XXF wet noodle. This isn’t near paintbrush soft noodle. In fact, ease of flex is more like a “super flex” grade. But it has a superbly responsive, dip nib like flex. The range is very good going up to BBB, but you don’t need swells very high at all to achieve some quality flex work. It is also a very pleasant writing XXF that is “wet” and smooth for a XXF. This is a nib you could use for everything from normal writing on poor paper to calligraphy to adding flair to signatures. And in a condition that is very difficult to find in Waterman 52s. SOLD

Waterman 52 1/2 BCHR – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 52 1/2 BCHR – Wet Noodle

Here is a fabulous wet noodle nib offered in a Waterman 52 1/2. The pen is good over all condition. The BCHR is still rather black. A little brown but very, very dark. The chasing has been worn almost completely smooth however, and the imprints on the side of the barrel are mostly unreadable. The nickels trim is in great condition without any brassing. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a near paintbrush soft wet noodle. It writes normally as a borderline XXF (0.25mm). It’s quite wet for such a fine nib, but the softness of the tines make this nib difficult to use for normal writing as they start spreading on contact with the paper. The flow keeps up well. Responsiveness is quite good for such a soft nib. Probably, not for beginners. Over flexing this isn’t that hard due to it’s softness. An incredible Watermen noodle. SOLD

Waterman 7 “RED” Red Ripple – Super Flex

Waterman 7 “RED” Red Ripple – Super Flex  (See Price Here)

This is the iconic Waterman 7 Red Ripple color coded “RED,” which is generally considered the best all around nib of the Waterman 7 series. There is some light fading of the hard rubber, but it still has mostly good color. The gold-filled trim looks good, but there is some brassing on the top edge of the band and some scuffing on the crown of the lever. Also the lever sticks up from the body slightly. The “Red” band on the cap is now more of a dark maroon. Imprints are still quite good. The cap threads on with only a quarter turn. The 14kt. #7 Waterman “RED” nib is a wet and smooth XF (0.3mm) which feels great in so large a pen. The flex is also good. A solid “super flex” as is typical of RED nibs. It ranges up to BBB and has good snap back. Overall, it’s a Waterman 7 RED, a pen synonymous with classic vintage style and superb quality.

SIZE:  5 1/2″ Capped

Mabie Todd Swan Self-Filler #3161 – Wet Noodle

Mabie Todd Swan Self-Filler #3161 – Wet Noodle ( See Price Here)

Here is a torpedo shaped Mabie Todd Swan in black with good trim. The body overall is in pretty good condition with only minor and light surface scratches due to normal use. There is one place on the cap where it looks like someone got carried away with a buffer and created a small indentation (see pics). Side imprints are half worn and only about half readable. The gold-filled trim is in good condition with no brassing. The lever is a little loose but still works very well. The section of these Swans have brass threads, and the cap on this one threads in about a quarter turn. The section also has internal threads which makes removing the section much easier. The 14kt. #2 “Swan” nib is a fabulous “wet noodle.” It writes normally as a wet XF. It does have a bit of feedback mostly due to the fact that it is very difficult to use without causing the tines to spread a little. But I would not call it scratchy. The flex goes from XF to BBB (1.7mm) with wet noodle ease and is nicely responsive. Overall, a nice wet noodle from Mabie Todd.

SIZE: 5 1/8″ Capped

Waterman 13 Red Mottled – Wet Noodle

Waterman 12 Red Mottled – Wet Noodle

Here is a beautiful and uncommon Waterman eye dropper. It’s a 13 with a #3 size nib in red mottled hard rubber. The pen is great condition. There is some fading to the hard rubber but it still has pretty good color. Imprints are fantastic. About as crisp as the original. The nickel-filled clip is also in great condition. This pen has not been used much. As great as this model is the 14kt. Waterman #3 nib may even be more desirable. It’s a wet Fine (0.4mm) that writes butter smooth with a stub like line variation. It adds some nice character to your normal writing. And to top it off it is also a wonderful wet noodle flex nib. This isn’t quite paintbrush soft, but it is still very soft. It has a great range going from 0.4mm to BBB (1.7mm) with some nice responsiveness. The feed has no issues keeping up. Overall, this is a beautiful and quite rare pen in very nice condition that also offers a nib that is both an amazing writer and a wet noodle. What more could you ask for?

Conklin Crescent Ring Top – Wet Noodle

Conklin Crescent Gold Filigree Ring Top – Wet Noodle

Here is a gorgeous Conklin Crescent with a gold-filled filigree overlay in a vest pen / ring top size. In size this is about half way between a Waterman 52 1/2V and a Waterman 52V. The body is in fantastic condition with little to no signs of wear. Certainly no brassing. No fading to the hard rubber. Has the initials “MC” on the cap. The body is really in superb condition. The 14kt. Made in Toledo Conklin #2 is a very wet writing F that like a lot of Conklin’s of this era has a bit of a stub-like character to it. There is some kind of tarnish on the gold nib that I can’t seem to polish off. It takes the right light to see it, but there is a slight color variation on a couple of places on the nib. Writing for this nib is lovely, wet, and smooth. It also has wonderful flex that I’m grading as a low grade wet noodle. This isn’t paintbrush soft, but flex comes very easy. It has a nice range going up to a large BBB (1.8mm). Responsiveness is pretty decent as well. Overall, a gorgeous Conklin that is both a beautiful writer and is capable of lovely flex work.

Mabie Todd Swan Ring Top – Super Flex / Wet Noodle

Mabie Todd Swan Ring Top – Super Flex / Wet Noodle

Here is a nice made in New York Mabie Todd Swan gold-filled ring top. The gold-filled body is in decent condition. There is some light scratching throughout, but nothing major. It has relatively little patterning on the body, and the smooth gold surface tends to hide very little. I only spot one very small ding on the side of the lever. I couldn’t really even pic it up on camera. There is a bit of wear on the end of the barrel, but that’s about it. Lever looks great. There is no personalizations. The 14kt. #2 Swan nib is a lovely XXF. It writes incredibly smooth for how fine it is. The flex is quite lovely as well ranging up to BBB. Ease of flex I would say really lands more in the “super flex” range, but it’s so fine and very responsive giving it a very high quality flex ability. Ease of flex would be similar to a Nikko G dip nib, if you have ever used one of them. This nib makes flex work much easier if you know what you are doing. And it comes in a nice, durable and portable package.

Omas Extra Brevetto 556/S – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Omas 556/S Brevetto – Wet Noodle

Here is a first rate Omas pen from the 1950s. It’s the 556/S Brevetto. A full size pen in high quality black celluloid and gold-filled trim. These pens are light and beautifully balanced with top notch trim packages and some of the best nibs ever made. This pen is in very nice condition. The gold-filled trim looks great with no brassing. The body is also in nice condition. Shiny with even minimal surface scratching from use. There is one very small scuff on the barrel near the cap that I like came from someone using a buffer on it. It’s very hard to see and doesn’t show up in photos. Imprints look good. Maybe slightly worn but still very readable. The 14kt. (585) Omas “Extra Lucens” nib is a wonder. Normal writing is XXF (0.2mm) that is surprisingly smooth for such a fine nib. The nib is also a fabulous wet noodle with an astonishing range going from 0.2mm to 1.9mm (BBB++)!! Responsiveness or snap back is also superb. This is a first rate Omas with a first rate and ultra desirable XXF wet noodle. This won’t last long. SOLD

Omas Extra Brevette – Super Flex / Wet Noodle

Omas Extra Brevette – Super Flex/Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Oh boy. Here is a beautiful vintage Omas Extra Brevette piston filler in black celluloid. There is some light scratching on this pen from normal use but nothing that is deep or obvious. There are two little bumps on either end of the barrel (see pics). I have no idea what caused these. The gold-filled trim looks really nice with no brassing. The piston filler works great. I put a little silicone grease in there. The 14kt Omas “Extra Lucens” (or extra light/ fine) nib is superb. This is really an XXF, which are pretty hard to come by in an Omas of this era. It writes a lovely, smooth line with great flow and feels soft and elegant. If you like really fine nibs, you’ll love this one. Additionally, it has some soft flex with superb responsiveness. The flex only goes up to 1.2mm, but that is all you need with such a fine starting point and great responsive action. Had the swells been a little larger, I would have graded this a “wet noodle.” Still, it feels “dip nibbish” in the quality of writing you are able to do with it. Overall, it’s a fantastic find.

Waterman 52 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 52 – Wet Noodle

Here is a Waterman 52 in BCHR in good condition. The BCHR is in great condition for a Waterman, whose black hard rubbers are notorious faders. The chasing is also very good. There is minimum wear on the lever and clip. Unfortunately, it looks like someone pulled the lever on a fossilized sac and caused a little bit of bending on the lever box. The box works fine and I don’t see any damage other than a little bending. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib on this one is phenomenal. It is a beautifully smooth and very wet writing F. The nib has some brilliant flex that is ultra soft nearing paintbrush feel. It’s so soft that if you have experience with flex nibs, it’ll still probably take some getting used to. The down side is that the feed has some trouble keeping up with some inks. I’ve run untold adjustments on this nib and feed, but can’t totally remove the railroading. So, for example, with Diamine Turquoise I can get about three lines of flex writing before I need to re-prime the feed a bit so it’ll keep up well. However, with wetter inks such as Pilot Iroshizuku, like Asa Gao in the example, the ink keeps up without any issue. This is a very rare, near paintbrush nib that still works as a soft, smooth, and deliciously wet normal writer.

Wahl Ring Top Wood Grain XXXF – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Wahl Wood Grain Ring Top XXXF – Wet Noodle

This Wahl ring top is in a beautiful ebonite wood grain patter. This pen was used but well cared for. I say that for a couple of reasons. First, the pen is in fantastic condition. Although there are some dings on the top of the cap (normal from everyday use with a pocket chain), the gold filled trim shows no signs of brassing. The response trim on top of the cap is especially impressive. The only brassing is on the crown of the lever. Further, the color of this pen is superb. It even has some of its original shine. Very little signs of and fading. The second reason I say it was well cared for is that the barrel on the threads sustained a very small crack. But this crack was repaired by a legitimate pen repairer. An internal metal sleeve was inserted and bonded to the inside of the barrel. With such robust reinforcement the threads of barrel are now far stronger than they were ever new. Further, the crack is not very obvious. I actually missed until I saw the internal metal sleeve on disassembly. But the real winner of this pen is the 14kt. Eversharp “Flexible” #2 nib. This is a very, very rare XXXF (0.1mm) Eversharp wet noodle nib. Just look at the whisper lines this nib produces. The nib is not a paintbrush or near paintbrush in flex, but it does come rather easily. The responsiveness is about as good as you can get in a fountain pen. There is some feedback on the nib in normal writing, but who writes with a XXXF nib? If you are looking for a do everything nib, this probably isn’t for you. If you are looking for a beautiful tool for art or calligraphy, this may be the one. The price here reflects the rarity of the nib. The beauty of the pen doesn’t hurt either. (SOLD)

Waterman #7 Red Ripple “RED” Nib – Super Flex / Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman #7 Red Ripple “RED” Nib – Super Flex / Wet Noodle

Here is a truly fascinating pen. One of the legendary Waterman #7 Red Ripple pens, but this has some unique features. I won’t make any ridiculous assertions that this is some super rare prototype pen. I think it’s uniqueness came about in very normal ways. First, the band has no gold filled band on the cap. This is a rather rare feature, but bandless #7s do exist. Secondly, the clip is nickel filled. I’ve never seen a nickel clip on a #7, and I can only assume that the original clip was removed and replaced with this one. There is no signs of damage to the cap, so for whatever reason the original clip was removed. Third, the band color is “Black” but the nib is “Red.” We often forget that back in the day, pen’s could be customized according to the tastes of the writer. In this case, I imagine either the original “Black” nib was damaged and replaced with a “Red,” or the owner decided he didn’t like the “Black” nib and later had it replaced with a “Red.” I have also seen “Black” bands on pens with nibs with no color code and have heard speculation that this was because Waterman was using up stock at some point. Alright enough educated guesswork. Here is what I do know. The red ripple has faded very little and still has very nice color. The “Black” cap band is also in great condition. Imprints are faded and mostly unreadable (though the “7” on the end is still good). The name “J.F. Maxwell” is inscribed on the side of the barrel. The lever is in great condition with no brassing. The lever appears to have some scuffing on the top and a tiny bit of brassing on the globe. Finally, we get to the 14kt. Waterman “RED” nib, which is really a great nib. Normally, it writes as a smooth and wet F / XF (0.35mm). It really feels more like a F to me. The flex on this pen comes very easily. It is really on the border between “super flex” and “wet noodle”. And it’s nearing the softness of a “PINK.” Basically, its about as close as you can get without it being a a for sure “wet noodle.” The range is great going up to BBB (1.8mm), and I would say that is a conservative measurement. Responsiveness is also pretty decent. It’s a Waterman #7 with some unique features and an impressive nib. SOLD

Waterman 12 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 12 – Wet Noodle

Another Waterman 12 in BCHR with gold-filled trim. This 12 is in impressive condition. The BCHR is still very black with only a slight bit of fading. The chasing is also crisp with a lot of texture left, and imprints look almost brand new. There is some brassing on the edges of the gold-filled clip. The gold-filled repousse bands look to be in superb condition. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a very interesting one. It is a very soft, wet noodle. Normally, it writes as an ultra wet stubish Medium. I do not overstate the wetness. You will need good paper (Rhodia, Tomoe River, etc.) otherwise you’ll be getting a lot of bleed through. The flex is also very wet and comes with ease ranging from M (0.6mm) up to a huge BBBB (2.2mm). Overall, a lovely Waterman 12 in great condition with a Wet Noodle stub nib.

Omas Extra Brevette 555 – Super Flex / Wet Noodle (Near Mint) SOLD

Omas Extra Brevette 555 – Super Flex / Wet Noodle (Near Mint)

Here is a beautiful ladies size Omas Extra 555. It’s similar in shape to the Ogiva but smaller. The pen is in great condition with very little signs of use. The cap has no brassing or scrapes. The imprint still has the original paint in it. The black celluloid body is also glossy and nearly flawless. The original piston is smooth and draws up ink well. This 14kt. Omas Extra nib is amazing. It writes normally has an XXF (0.2mm) that is pretty smooth. A tiny bit of pressure and you can get a wetter and broader line if you wish. The flex on this nib is beautiful. It is ultra responsive and flex comes with ease. The range of flex is great going up to BBBB (1.9mm). It’s not quite a wet noodle in ease of flex, but all it’s other qualities are superior wet noodle qualities. If you are looking to do some nice precise flex work, such as calligraphy, this is a great pen. And if you just want a superb vintage Omas, then this is just about as good as it gets. SOLD

Mabie Todd Swan in Gold-Filled Overlay & Over/Under Feed – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Mabie Todd Swan in Gold-Filled Overlay & Over/Under Feed – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Here is an absolutely gorgeous made in New York Mabie Todd (post “& Bard” era) Swan. This Swan comes with the barrel wrapped in an original high quality gold-filled overlay with no personalizations. The overlay is in superb condition with no brassing and no dings. There is a little bit of fading to the hard rubber. The imprint on the cap is worn a bit. It’s visible but it isn’t very easy to see. The 14kt. Swan nib is a soft wet noodle with near paintbrush ease of flex. This is a very wet writing F as is typical of these vintage eye droppers. You can easily use this as a normal writer so long as you have good, fountain pen friendly paper. Range of flex is also excellent going from F (0.4mm) to BBB (1.8mm). The writing sample says 1.9mm, but I made an adjustment to the feed, which improved the responsiveness but lessened the range a bit, and thus the discrepancy. Responsiveness is really very good for such a wet pen. This is a collector’s quality pen with a flex enthusiasts nib. What’s not to love?

Waterman 3 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 3 – Wet Noodle

Here is a wonderful Waterman 3 in silver and red celluloid. The body looks great without anything in the way of significant scratches, etc. The chrome plated trim does have some wear. There is some pitting on the clip and a little bit on the lever. The thin cap band also has a bit of west on it when you looks closely. But this pen is all about the nib, which is a stunner. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a wet writing XF with a smooth “sweet spot.” But the really joy of this pen is that it has soft, easy, near paintbrush flex that is both huge and responsive. The range of this nib is superb going from XF (0.3mm) to a whopping BBBB (1.9mm). Combined with that range is a upper level responsiveness hard to find in a nib this soft. It’s an absolute joy to use.

Wahl Gold-Filled #3 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Wahl Gold Filled Vest Pen #3 – Wet Noodle

Here is a Wahl gold-filled vest pen. It is the larger size with a #3 nib and has the clip rather than a ring top. The gold-filled body is in great condition with no signs of brassing. There is only very light scratching from light use. There is also only one small ding on the top of the cap. The personalization “Vivian” is professional etched in the side of the barrel. The superstar of this pen is the 14kt. Wahl #3 nib. It is a near paintbrush soft wet noodle with massive range. The pen writes well normally as a F (0.4mm). It is soft, smooth, and rather wet. With very little pressure the nib flexes up to a range of BBBB (2.2mm)! That’s just huge. Furthermore, the pen has some great responsiveness. Whether you want to write normally, add some moderate flex, or really go big, this nib does it all. Plus, it’s in a very portable and durable body.

Waterman 12 (Near Mint) – Wet Noodle (Sold)

Waterman 12 (Near Mint) – Wet Noodle  (SOLD)

Here is a fabulous Waterman 12 in smooth black hard rubber with no original chasing. The hard rubber is still shiny black. The imprints as still very crisp and the paint is still mostly present. The gold filled band is also in great condition. What more can you say? It’s in amazing condition. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a very wet writing paintbrush wet noodle. This is incredibly soft and requires almost no pressure to flex. This long tined nib is produces a very soft, very wet, and very smooth writing experience. Thought the flex is as soft as it is, the responsiveness of this nib is still very good. The range is also very good going from XF (0.3mm) up to BB (1.6mm). Actually, the nib can go much further, but the one downside of this nib is that if you continually push it it will eventually start having some railroads. Generally, the feed picks right back up and you can start flexing again. Very dry inks (like IGs) might not fair very well in this one. Beautiful nib on a fantastic collection grade 12.

Mabie Todd Swan Eyedropper (Near Mint) – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Mabie Todd Swan Eyedropper (Wet Noodle) – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Here is a gorgeous made in New York Mabie Todd Swan. The color on this pen is as black as the day it was originally purchased. Chasing is also crisp with little wear. The imprints have no wear and still have much of the original white paint. There is some very light scratching from capping the slip on cap. This is very light and what you would see on modern pens of light use. There is also some on the end of the barrel from posting the cap. It has a Mabie Todd accommodation clip (no original clip was on this pen) that show a little bit of wear but still looks pretty decent for it’s age. On the barrel there is the inscription “Property of N.Y. Telephone Co.” So I guess you can add a nice piece of history to the quality of this pen. The 14kt. Mabie Todd #2 nib is a lovely wet noodle. It writes normally as a soft XF (0.3mm) that is smooth and not overly wet. The flex has a great range going from XF to BBB+ (1.8mm). The flex is not quite paintbrush soft but it’s definitely a noodle, and it has some very nice responsiveness. Overall, this is a stunning, collection quality Mabie Todd Wet Noodle.

Mabie Todd Swan Ring Top – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Mabie Todd Swan Ring Top – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Here is a great made in New York Mabie Todd Swan gold-filled ring top. The pen is in great condition. Especially considering it’s age. The gold filled body has minimal wear on it with the only brassing at the end edge of the barrel due to posting. There is one small ding on the cap. It isn’t very noticeable, but you can see fairly easily if you look for it. The initials “V O” are engraved on the side of barrel. The imprints on the end of the barrel are a little faded but readable. The 14kt. Swan #2 nib is wet, lovely writing F that has some nice, soft flex. This is definitely a wet noodle. Not quite a paintbrush, but very soft with some nice responsiveness. A great vintage wet noodle in a durable and portable package by a company that made some great, quality pens.

Waterman 402 – Super Flex / Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 402 – Super Flex / Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Here is a very unique pen. It’s a Waterman 402 with a smooth sterling silver overlay. A smooth, shiny overlay of this size is extremely difficult to keep in perfect condition. They are highly susceptible dents, scratches, etc. and the shiny surface hides nothing. Having said that the body of this pen is in pretty decent condition. Only a few very small dents and some light scratching. The cap, however, is another matter. Something caused the overlay the split apart. The pen would be in great condition if it wasn’t for this blemish. The cap has an inscription that reads “Aberdeen, L.T.  C. 1904” on the top line and Alfred Smith below that. I believe it refers to Aberdeen Scotland and “L.T. C.” stands for Lieutenant Colonel. Anyway, it’s clearly a pen well over a hundred years old, and has possibly seen a World War or two. There is also “Waterman” imprint at the end of the barrel. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a very wet and beautifully smooth writing F. It really feels more like a medium due to it’s juicy nature. The flex on this nib is great and very easy. It’s really on the border between a “wet noodle” and a “super flex” nib. The output for flex is pretty good, but with some inks you may experience a railroad here and there. But the ink always picks right back up. Overall, a very unique pen.

Onoto (De La Rue) “The Pen” – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Onoto (De La Rue) “The Pen” – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

De La Rue is a British pen company that has made great, quality fountain pens for a very long time. They were also the first company to use a plunger filling system. They called these simply “Onoto” which eventually became the name of the pen making branch of the De La Rue company. This pen is loads of fun. The hard rubber body has faded some to a very dark blackish brown. Chasing and imprints are near perfect. This needed a complete overhaul of the filling system (new plunger, rod, cork seals, etc.). These Onoto plunger fillers are quirky but great once you get the hang of them. What makes this Onoto particular fun is the soft, flexy oblique italic nib. The nib has great line variation with downstrokes at 0.7mm and horizontal strokes about 0.3mm (maybe a bit less). It is a lovely, wet and smooth italic nib. That alone makes this pen a blast, but then add soft flex to it and wow. Italic + flex is a fantastic combination. Oblique, italic, and flex is an even better one. Each of these characteristics work to enhance each other. Now these plunger fillers have an interesting ink flow that takes a bit getting used to. Initially this nib will lay down tons of ink, but the plungers were made to eliminate ink gushing and burping so the flow will decrease bit by bit as you use it. Eventually, you will have to twist the end cap of the plunger a quarter turn or so and the process will repeat: heavy flow decreasing in time and then you will have to turn the cap a bit more. Some will find this a fun reminder of vintage writing instruments. Some may find it an annoying extra step. I’m in the former group. Actually, in your writing what you end up getting is all kinds of shading. Dark, sheeny letters at one point, and lighter colors at another. Even without the flex, the oblique italic nib is by itself worth a purchase.

Waterman 92- Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 92 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Here is a stunning Waterman 92 in red and bronze celluloid. The pen is in great condition with beautiful color and minimal signs of use. The imprints are all pretty good and crisp except there is some wear on the imprint on the side of the barrel. Part of the “Made in Canada” is very faint. The gold-filled trim is also in great condition with only a tiny bit of plate loss on the head of the lever. The clip and band look very nice. The real stunner of this pen, though, is that nib. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a nib of any artists or calligraphers dream. It’s an XXF wet noodle with paintbrush ease of flex unbelievably combined with a superb, bouncy responsiveness. This is about as close to a dip nib as you can get in a fountain pen. The XXF doesn’t make it great for normal writing. It’s too fine and soft, too easy to make the tines start spreading with slight pressure. But the flex!! This isn’t for the big gushing brush calligraphy lettering, but rather for the detailed, precise lettering of something like Copperplate. An incredible wet noodle that likely won’t last long.

Waterman 32 –

Wet Noodle (Artist’s Nib)(SOLD)

Waterman 32 – Wet Noodle (Artists Nib)

First the formalities. This is a standard black Waterman 32 with chrome trim. The body is well cared for. There is some light scratching throughout due to normal use, but overall this pen is smooth, polished and shinning jet black. The trim has also very faint scratching, but there is no plate loss. Imprints are good and crisp. Now to the nib. This is a “wow” nib. It’s paintbrush soft AND responsive. That is a very difficult and rare combination to acquire. This is about as close as you can get to a dip nib in a fountain pen. The nib flexes so easily that it isn’t great for normal writing. The tines just flex too easily, and since it’s an XF that will make it feel rather scratchy. Feels very much like trying to write normally with a dip nib. This nib takes a light touch, and probably isn’t the best for beginners. Not a particularly rare pen model, but a very rare nib. Perfect for artists and calligraphers.

Waterman 52 Red Ripple (Fine Stub) –

Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 52 Red Ripple  – Wet Noodle

Here is a nice Waterman 52 in red ripple hard rubber. The pen is in pretty good shape. There is some fading to the ripple hard rubber, but it isn’t too significant.  There is a lot of color left. The gold-filled trim is lovely as well. There is a little bit of brassing on the edges of the “globe” on the lever, but it isn’t terribly noticeable. The rest of the trim has no brassing. It has the name “Geo. W. Harrison” engraved in the side of the barrel. The star of the pen is the nib, and it is quite a star. It’s a Fine Stub (0.5mm) that’s between medium wet to wet. Some would call this a cursive italic. It’s sharp enough to get some nice line variation, but not so sharp that edges catch. It is also a superb Wet Noodle with paintbrush softness. The flex on the pen goes from 0.5mm to 2.1mm (BBBB). The nib had sustained a crack out of the right side of the breather hole, but Greg Minuskin has laser welded it. You can’t even see the crack anymore and it’s stronger than ever. The pen has a lovely, bouncy responsiveness. The flex working in tandem with the stub nib give it a very responsive feel. This is a one of those nibs that a lot of people are searching for: a beautifully writing paintbrush soft wet noodle stub. And on Waterman’s superb red ripple 52.

Waterman 14 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 14 – Super Flex / Wet Noodle

Here is a very nice Waterman 14 in BCHR. The black hard rubber is faded to a medium brown. The chasing is still present, though it has mostly lost texture. The imprints, however, are still pretty and easily readable. The gold filled trim is in good condition. The repousse bands still look lovely. The edges do have a little bit of brassing, but you need magnification to see it. The clip is without brassing. The 14kt. Waterman #4 nib is a very lovely XF (0.3mm) that writes wet, smooth, and graceful. The nib also has lovely flex. It goes from XF to BBB (1.7mm) with ease. I have graded it as ranging between a Super flex and Wet Noodle. It’s on the soft side of super flex but a bit stiff for Wet Noodle. it is also quite responsive. The nib used to be cracked at the base, but it was welded closed by Greg Minuskin. He does excellent work and his welds are superb. The nib is more likely to crack somewhere else long before the weld ever fails. (SOLD)

Waterman 52 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 52 – Wet Noodle  (See Price Here)

Here is a fantastic Waterman 52 in BCHR. The pen is in great condition except for two flaws. The first is that the hard rubber has faded some to a dark blackish brown. The second is that the clip has been bent out and then back it to a shape that more closely resembles an Aikin Lambert clip. The lack of markings on the clip almost give you the impression that this was done for some intentional purpose. But that is just an educated guess. Anyway, it still functions well as a clip. Apart from this, the trim looks great with no brassing and every very little signs of wear. The chasing and the imprints on the pen are still very good as well. This pen also boasts a very lovely 14kt. Waterman #2 nib that is a very wet and smooth writing F (0.5mm). It’s a lovely writer (if you like wet pens) that has some soft, wet noodle flex. The ease of flex isn’t quite paintbrush soft, but it is getting close to that. It ranges from 0.5mm (F) to a large 1.9mm (BBB+). It’s a Waterman 52 with a great, noodle nib. What more is there to say. SOLD

Waterman 12 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 12 – Wet Noodle (Near Perfect BCHR)

Here is a Waterman 12 in close to original condition. The BCHR is in amazing condition. It is still jet black and gleaming with the original shine. It has almost no fading. The chasing is also very crisp with no wear. As are the imprints. The gold-filled repousse bands are also in superb condition. The only flaw is that there is brassing on the edges of the clip. Without that the body of this pen would be in almost new condition. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a very wet writing Medium (0.6mm). It’s so wet in fact that it feels more like a Broad. It is also a superb flexing nib. It is wet noodle quality with very soft ease of flexing and a huge range going from 0.6mm to 2.4mm! (BBBB). When I found the nib it had two little cracks on each side of the breather hole, but I had it repaired by Greg Minuskin. You can still see the cracks, but the welds under the nib will hold for a very, very long time. Overall, this is a fantastic vintage Waterman Wet Noodle. SOLD

Parker Lucky Curve – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Parker Lucky Curve – Wet Noodle

Here is a nice Parker Lucky Curve in a vest pen size. The black hard rubber is still jet black and does not appear to have faded at all over the years. There is some light scratching from its years of life, but nothing deep or significant. The chasing is still very crisp throughout the pen. The imprints also look great with very little wear to them. The gold-filled clip has no brassing that I could find. The best part of this pen, though, is the nib. It’s a 14kt. Lucky Curve #2. It is a very wet writing F that feels almost like a Medium due to it’s wetness. It is quite stubbish, and is smooth and soft and graceful. A great little writer. Additionally, the flex is beautifully soft. I have had softer nibs than this but not by much. I would call this a paintbrush flex. It takes very little pressure to get some nice variation. The nib flexes from 0.5mm (the picture is incorrect) to a huge 2.0mm. The flow is on the wet side even for flex pen and has no trouble keeping up. And the nib maintains some good responsiveness.

Waterman 412 – Super Flex/Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 412 – Super Flex/Wet Noodle

The Waterman 412 is a Waterman 12 with a sterling silver overlay (thus the “4” at the front). The black hard rubber under the overlay has faded to a dark brown. The overlay looks great for its age. It does have a few small dings on the top of the cap. The clip is missing it’s ball at the end. The imprint on the end of the barrel is still good and crisp. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a superb nib. Normally it writes as a wet and very elegant F (0.4mm) that is a bit stubbish. The flex on the pen is very, very nice. It has a soft flex that is bordering between “super flex” and “wet noodle.” In addition it has some great range of flex going from F to BBB (0.4mm-1.8mm). The feed is very wet and puts a lot of ink on the page. And it has some pretty nice responsiveness. Overall, a great vintage work of art.

Waterman 12 Red Mottled – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 12 Red Mottled – Wet Noodle

Here is a Waterman 12 in Red Mottled hard rubber. The pen is in very nice condition. There is a little bit of fading to the hard rubber. More so on the cap than then body. There are also a few light teeth marks on the section. The latest patent on the pen is 1884 dating this to likely to the late 1880s-90s, so it’s well over a 100 years old. The side imprint is still very good and crisp. The number imprint on the end of the barrel. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a gorgeous nib. This a rare, true XXF. It writes rather smoothly for how fine it is. It also has some fantastic flex. On this wet noodled nib, the flex comes easily. It’s not a paintbrush, but you don’t want quite a paintbrush for it will lack this nib’s control. The responsiveness is fantastic. It definitely has a dip nib feel. The range of flex is also very good going from XXF (0.2mm) to BB+ (1.6mm). These XXF wet noodles are in very high demand, so I doubt that this will last long.

Wahl-Eversharp Ring Top Pen & Pencil Combo –

Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Ring Top Pen & Pencil Combo – Wet Noodle

Here is a yellow/green and black marbled Wahl-Eversharp Ring Top pen and pencil combo. The original color was the lighter, more yellowish pearl with the black, but it has darkened some to the more greenish color. There is some very light scratching on the surface of the pen and pencil as is typical of pens of this age. The name “J. White” The gold filled trim is all in great condition with no brassing. The 14kt. Wahl #3 is a soft, very wet writing F (0.5mm) that is smooth and glassy for normal writing. It has some very soft flex nearing a paintbrush softness. It also has great range going from F (0.5mm) to BBB+ (2.0mm).

Wahl-Eversharp Doric Junior – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Doric – Wet Noodle

Here is a lovely Wahl Doric in Junior size in the Morraco red color. This color is really beautiful with a depth that causes it to shift in appearance as you move it in the light. The body does have some light scratching throughout typical of these models but no crazing. It’s a first generation Doric lever-filler. The gold-filled trim is all in good condition. The #3 two-toned Eversharp Adjustible nib is a lovely wet writing F (when adjusted to firm) and a soft wet noodle when adjusted to full flex. This pen puts down a lot of ink when flexing and the nib is paintbrush soft. It has a great range going all the way to BBB (1.8mm). As is usual in such a soft nib the responsiveness isn’t as crisp as some wet noodles, but it’s still decent for its softness. This is just a fun, beautiful pen. SOLD

Parker 18 Red Mottled Eyedropper – Wet Noodle

(SOLD)

Parker Lucky Curve Red Mottled #18 Eyedropper – Wet Noodle

Here is superb Parker Lucky Curve Red Mottled #18 Eyedropper. The red mottled hard rubber still has fantastic color and even retains most of its original shine. The original imprints are a little faded but still readable. Someone had put a cheap accommodation clip on the cap that resulted in some light scratching on it. And there are some teeth marks on the section. Otherwise, it is in beautiful shape. The 14kt. Parker Lucky Curve nib is a real beauty. It writes as a wet, soft, and smooth F (0.4mm) that flexes with ease to BBB. It’s not quite a paintbrush noodle, but it takes little pressure to achieve great flex range. The flow is wet and keeps up well. The nib is also quite responsive. Overall a stunning early Parker eyedropper. SOLD

Waterman 12 with Star Nib (Rare) – Wet Noodle

(SOLD)

Waterman 12 with Star Nib (Rare) – Wet Noodle

This Waterman 12 came originally clipless and without chasing. The pen looks to have been left in the son at some point as the black hard rubber has faded unevenly. On one side it is a dark brown. On the other a bit littler medium brown. Imprints are still good and readable, and there is the more uncommon imprint on the cap. But the beauty of this pen is the nib. This 12 sports the hard to come by “star” nib, which is one of the early versions of Waterman nibs. This 14kt #2 nib is an ultra fine (0.2mm) nib that is perfect calligraphic writing. It is a soft nib, though not quite paintbrush, that is also superbly responsive. It is reminiscent of a dip nib. If you are looking for a soft nib capable of hairlines and great responsive action for art or calligraphy, this is it. Plus, it is a highly collectible star nib. SOLD

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

Waterman 12 Eyedropper – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 12 Eyedropper – Wet Noodle

Here is an excellent example of a Waterman 12 eyedropper. The pen is in superb condition. The body is a smooth black hard rubber, which has only a very light amount of fading. It is still quite black and has a shine to it. The imprints are impressively crisp. The nickel clip looks brand new. This pen looks to have almost never been used. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a wet writing XF that is springy and smooth. It has some soft flex going up to 1.6mm (just a hair under BBB). The ease of flex is on the stiffer side of wet noodle, but it has some nice responsiveness as well. This is a rare, near mint Waterman 12. SOLD

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XF to BB (0.3mm-1.6mm),  WET NOODLE (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 23 Taper Cap (Rare) – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 23 – Super Flex

This is a rare and difficult to come by Waterman. The latest patent date is 1884, and the pen likely predates the 1900s. The taper caps were meant to mimic the feel of a dip pen when posted, and they definitely give it that flavor. This pen is in great condition for it’s age. The cap has faded some to a grayish, brownish blackish color. But the body is still fairly black just a bit duller than original. The chasing is very good and imprints are still crisp. The repousse bands are also in nice condition with no brassing. The 23 comes with a 14kt. early Waterman #3 nib. It is very, very fine. Normally it writes as a XXF (0.2mm) but flexes up to BB (1.4mm). The flex on this nib isn’t huge, but it is perfect for hairlines. And it is so responsive that you can do much more quality flex work than with most nibs that flex larger. Responsivness and fineness trump big flex in my book, and this has them both. Great, quite rare vintage pen. SOLD

SIZE:  5 7/8″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XXF to BB (0.3mm-1.4mm),  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Eye-Dropper

Mabie Todd Swan 300 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Mabie Todd Swan 300 – Wet Noodle

A nice made in England Swan eyedropper in good condition. The BCHR on this pen has faded very little as it still remains quite black. The original chasing on these pens was pretty subtle and it has mostly faded smooth. Side imprints and cap imprints are good and crisp, though the one near the end of barrel is a bit faded. There are a few very tiny dings in the bands but no brassing that I could see. The 14kt. #3 Swan nib is a wet writing F that has that elegant, soft, vintage feel to it. It also has soft, wet noodle flex. It isn’t quite paintbrush soft, but it is very soft and ranges up to 1.8mm (BBB)! It is also pretty responsive. A lot of fun to use both for flex writing or just adding some nice character to normal writing. SOLD

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

Wahl-Eversharp Doric Pen & Pencil – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Doric Pen & Pencil Combo – Wet Noodle

Here is a set of full-size Wahl-Eversharp Doric pen and pencil in black celluloid. This is a first generation lever filler pen. The bodies both look very nice with only very light scratching. I’ve buffed and polished these to remove most of that. The gold-filled trim is in superb condition with no brassing and even very little signs of use. The pencil has the thinner band without the diamonds and has “R.R.G.” inscribed in the clip, and so this is likely not the original pencil that was combined with the pen. But I bought the set together, so I sell them together. The 14kt. Eversharp #2 “Flexible” nib is indeed very flexible. This is a soft, near paintbrush flex nib. It writes normally as a wet and smooth XF (0.3mm) but takes a light hand because it flexes with ease up to 1.7mm. After flexing for awhile you will get the occasional railroad, but it picks right back up. It’s a beautiful pen with a gorgeous, wet “Flexible” nib. SOLD

SIZE:  5 3/8″ Capped

NIB: 14kt. Wahl-Eversharp #2 Flexible, F to BBB (0.3mm-1.7mm),  WET NOODLE  (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Moore Gold Filled Ring Top – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Moore Gold Filled Ring Top – Wet Noodle

Here is a pretty little gold filled ring top by Moore. I like Moore’s ring tops as they have a good quality feel to them. There is no brassing that I could find on this pen. There is one ding on the body, but other than that the pen seems pretty clean other than the usual light scratching that comes with normal use. The initials “F.W.” are inscribed in the side of the cap. The 14kt #2 Moore nib is a very wet writing F that is smooth and soft, and it is has some fantastic flex. It ranges from 0.5mm (F) to a large 2.1mm (BBB+). It is very soft and smooth and fairly responsive for how wet it is. A great, durable and portable noodle.

Waterman 12 Sleeve Filler (Rare) – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 12 S.F. – Wet Noodle

This is a Canadian made Waterman 12 Sleeve Filler with a truly fabulous nib. The hard rubber on this pen is smooth with no original chasing and it has faded some to a dark brown. The imprints on this one are quite nice, crisp, and easily readable. It has patent date of 1909. The slip cap does have a small chip out of the lip. The nickel filled clip-cap clip is still in great shape with very little wear for it’s age. The internal filler bar has some rust spots, but they are only surface and pretty common on these pens. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a super soft wet noodle nib. The pen writes normally as a very wet F (0.4mm) that is silky smooth. The tipping was just redone by Greg Minuskin, so it’s as good as the day it was made. The nib has pretty decent responsiveness for how soft it is. The flex ranges up with ease to 1.8mm (BBB). These sleeve fillers are pretty hard to come by and this nib is a real joy to use. SOLD

Onoto Plunger Filler – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Onoto Plunger Filler – Wet Noodle

Here is a Thomas De La Rue “Onoto” plunger filler. Onoto/ T.D.L.R. is a British pen company that went very early to a plunging mechanism to fill their pens. This Onoto is BCHR pen with the the hard rubber faded to a dark brown. The chasing has been worn almost off, but the imprints are still very crisp. The plunging mechanism has been restored and works well. The 14kt. Onoto nib is covered by an over/ under feed. The nib is a beauty. It is a smooth writing F/XF that writes like a stub. When flexed ink gushes out of this pen, but when not flexed the flow is good but not copious. The flex has a large range going from 0.3mm to 1.9mm (XF-BBB) and is very soft and smooth. These Onotos have an unique attribute. When flexing the ink will eventually start running dry. Then you must unscrew the blind cap and the flow will return, and as I said it will be abundant. SOLD

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

NIB:  14kt. Onoto, F to BB (0.4mm-1.7mm)  WET NOODLE (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade Flex)

FILLING: Plunger

Waterman 52 Red Ripple (Near Mint) – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman Red Ripple 52 (Near Mint) – Super Flex

Here is a gorgeous Waterman Red Ripple that looks to have some after market additions (probably from the French market though it was made in the USA). There red ripple is beautiful with a lovely shine and almost no fading. There is a little scuffing and brassing on the top of the lever otherwise this pen is wonderful condition. The imprints all looks very good and crisp. The rest of the trim shows no signs of brassing. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a wonderful, soft writing XF that is smooth and feels elegant when writing. It has some good flex that goes from XF to BB (0.3mm-1.6mm). It is on the stiffer side of super flex nibs, but it superbly responsive making detailed flex quite easy accomplish. Overall, clearly a fabulous pen.

Waterman 52 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman 52V Red Ripple  – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Here is a Waterman 52 in black hard rubber with beautiful gold filled trim. The body is pretty black. The chasing is faded a bit, so I’m guessing someone went through the process of buffing off the oxidized layer of hard rubber on the surface to reveal the black hard rubber underneath. The gold filled trim looks great with no signs of brassing except for the very front tip of the clip’s ball. The bands appear to be after market additions and have what I believe are the artists imprints on them. The front band also has the initials “W.L.” inscribed. The Waterman #2 14kt. nib is really interesting. It appears that this nib sustained some damage at some point to the very tip (probably was dropped on the tip). It has been realigned, but the tip is still slightly creased. It does not affect the performance of the nib in the slightest, but is a cosmetic blemish. The nib performs as a ultra soft wet noodle nib with fantastic, near dip nib responsiveness. It writes as a lovely XF (0.3mm), but very little pressure is needed to get line variation. This would be a perfect nib for calligraphic writing such as copperplate.

Mabie Todd Swan Chatelaine with Over/Under Feed – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Mabie Todd Swan Chatelaine – Wet Noodle

Here is made in New York Mabie Todd & Bard Swan eyedropper with over/under feed. The pen is in overall very good condition. The black hard rubber has faded to a dark brown. The chasing is worn but visible. Not a lot of texture left to it. The imprints are still readable though worn. The beautiful repousse work, gold-filled band and chain are all in very nice condition with no brassing that I can see. There are some scratches on the section from putting the cap on and off. The 14kt. Swan nib is a soft, near paintbrush wet noodle. It writes normally as a smooth and wet F (0.5mm) and flexes with ease up to 2.3mm (BBB+). And it just pours on the ink when flexing. It’s definitely a WET noodle. No railroads here. You can see some of the ridiculous amounts of sheen you will get with this pen. Unfortunately that wetness does reduce some of the responsiveness, but it sure is fun.

Waterman 52V Red Ripple – Super Flex/ WET NOODLE (SOLD)

Waterman 52V Red Ripple  – Super Flex/ Wet Noodle

This is a beautiful Waterman 52V in red ripple hard rubber that is in fantastic condition. There is just a slight bit of fading on the hard rubber. The imprints are all in good, crisp, easy to read condition. The trim looks great with no signs of brassing. And to top it all off it has a great nib. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a smooth, wet writing, stubbish F. And it has great flex abilities. It ranges from 0.4mm to 1.8mm (BBB). It is snappy and responsive enough to use for detail flex work. The flex also comes easy. This one is on the border between “super flex” and “wet noodle.” This is a fantastic example of the beautiful Red Ripple pen.  SOLD

Moore Vest Pen – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

Moore Vest Pen – Wet Noodle

Here is a Moore BCHR vest pen with a gold-filled overlay. The pen is in pretty good condition. The hard rubber has faded some to a dark grayish brown/ black. There are also small bite marks on the top of the cap and end of the barrel. The overlay is in pretty good condition. There is some light scratching from use, but no brassing. The clip and lever are in like condition: some scratching but no plate loss or brassing. The overlay also has the initials I.N.S. engraved in the side. The 14kt. Moore nib on this pen is absolutely superb. It is a soft XXF (0.2mm) that writes quite smoothly for such a fine nib. It’s flex range tops out at about 1.6mm (BB), but the responsiveness on this pen is truly superb. It has a near dip nib responsive quality that is very rare and hard to come by. Even the slightest line variations allow for crisp flex writing. Perfect for calligraphic writing such as copperplate. PRICE: SOLD

Waterman Eyedropper with Star Nib – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Waterman Eyedropper with Star Nib – Wet Noodle

Here is a rare find. In the writing sample I call this a Waterman 12 but in reality this is the pre-12. This pen actually predates the numbering system Waterman adopted in 1898. The only patent date on the pen is 1894. My guess is that the pen was made in 1897. Certainly no later. It is still in great shape. The only flaw is that the hard rubber has faded to a dark brown. Imprints all look great and are easily readable. Now this 14kt. Waterman #2 star nib is an absolute paintbrush. This nib was made to flex like always. It’s not easy to write normally with because slightest pressure brings the tines apart. This nib requires some skill to use and a very light hand. It can flex with ease up BBB (2.0mm), but I would keep it under that most of the time. It’s a nib that would be easy to over flex. It writes “normally” as a very wet F (0.4mm), but that is with zero pressure on the nib. This is a real rare find. A likely 120 year old Waterman eyedropper with an ultra soft wet noodle Waterman Star nib. PRICE: SOLD

SIZE:  5 3/8″ Capped

Vintage Gold-Filled Repousse Eyedropper – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_6674

Vintage Gold-Filled Repousse Eyedropper– Wet Noodle

Not all vintage pens need to have a well-known maker to be fine pens. This is an excellent, unbranded eyedropper with intricate repousse exterior. This pen was likely made sometime between the 1890s and 1910s. It is very similar to an Aiken Lambert or John Hollad pen of the same era.  The pen is in near mint condition. It’s hard to believe that a hundred plus year old pen could look this nice. The black hard rubber is still jet black, shiny and smooth. There is no brassing on the pen. Indeed the only fault I can find is a small ding in the barrel where in area blanked for personalization (of which this pen has none.) And the Warranted 14kt. nib on this pen is superb. It’s a wet F (0.4mm) that is a very soft wet noodle. The tipping is a bit low but still there. This nib is a near paintbrush. It writes more like a very soft and smooth Medium normally due to the fact that it is hard to write normally without flexing it a little bit. It flexes up 2.2mm and is quite responsive. This is a superb vintage pen. SOLD

Mabie Todd Swan Red Mottled – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Mabie Todd Swan Red Mottled – Wet Noodle

This is a phenomenal made in England Mabie Todd self-filler. The red-mottled hard rubber is still in excellent condition minimal (if any) fading. The gold filled trim on this pen really sets it off as a high end luxury item, and it all looks great with no brassing. The imprints are all good and crisp. The pen is really in near mint condition. The best part is that the 14kt. Mabie Todd Swan #2 nib is a superlative writing and flexing nib. With normal writing it is wet, soft, and elegant XF. With just a touch of pressure this nib will flex up to BBB (1.8mm). It has a near paintbrush softness to it and yet still remains springy and quite responsive. And it just feels great when you are flexing with it. Elegant is the word that keeps coming to mind. It just looks and feels like quality in every way.

Minerva by Omas Pen Set – WET NOODLE/ SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

20170124_174704

20170124_174944

Minerva by Omas Pen Set – Wet Noodle/ Super Flex

Miverva was a sub brand of Omas. The Minerva pens were made with the same quality as that of the main brand of Omas itself. Here we have an amazing set of Minerva lever filling made of black celluloid probably produced in the 30s. Both pens have some light scratching throughout the bodies. The gold filled trim looks pretty good with very little brassing. There is a small nick in the lever of the larger pen. The clip on the smaller pen is loose but still fastened to the cap. The faux alligator leather case is in decent condition. It still clicks shut well, but there is some wear on the top of the case. The nibs, specs, and pictures I will deal with separately. SOLD!!

Large Pen

The 14kt. Minerva nib is a beautiful wet writing F that is soft and springy. Unfortunately, some goober at some point attempted to remove the nib improperly and put a little bit of bend in the back side of the nib (see pic). It does not at all affect the functionality of the pen. It’s just a cosmetic imperfection. It has excellent, juicy flex that goes up to 1.8mm (BBB). It’s not quite a wet noodle, but it is getting close. ON EBAY NOW

Small Pen

This Minerva nib is a beautiful XF with soft flex. It has a range of XF (0.3mm) to BB (1.6mm). It is fabulously responsive. It is not a paint brush wet noodle, but it is quite soft and the quality and crispness of the flex is very high and thus wet noodle grade. SOLD!!

Mabie Todd Swan with Over/ Under Feed – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

Mabie Todd Swan- Wet Noodle  (See Price Here)

Here is a made in England Mabie Todd “Swan” 1500 eyedropper with an over/under feed. The black hard rubber has now turned brown. The imprints are worn a bit but they are certainly readable. All chasing on the pen has been worn smooth. The beauty of this pen is in the nib. This is a very wet writing pen as is typical for these Mabie Todd eyedroppers. The 14kt. Swan nib writes normally as a smooth and wet F but it has a nice soft flex up to 1.9mm. And the ink just pours from this nib once you start flexing. It’s a great pen for producing sheen if you are into that. I would say that this is on the lower side of the wet noodle grade. It’s not quite a paint brush, but it takes very little pressure to make the tines start spreading. These over/ under feed eyedroppers are much sought after. This one shows some age, but it’s still a great pen.  SOLD

Waterman 52 Red Ripple with Nickel Trim –  SUPER FLEX/ WET NOODLE (SOLD)

Waterman 52 Red Ripple w/ Nickel Trim – Super Flex/ Wet Noodle

Here is a full sized Waterman 52 in Red Ripple hard rubber. This 52 was made in Canada but likely intended for the European market as it has nickel rather than gold-filled trim. It is also unusual as it does not have the typical band on the cap lip. The pen is in superb condition. There is just a whisper of fading of the hard rubber. Only by looking under the cap can you see just a tiny bit of fading. The nickel plated clip and lever are in great condition. There is just a tiny bit of scuffing on one edge of the clip. Imprints are very good and easy to read. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is wonderful. It’s a stubbish XF (0.3mm) with medium flow that writes smooth and with a touch of line variation. The nib has some very nice flex that comes easily. Ease of flex I would grade as wet noodle or near wet noodle. Responsiveness is also quite good. The flex range is from 0.3mm to 1.6mm. Overall, this is one outstanding pen. SOLD

Waterman 52V Olive Ripple Pen and Pencil Combo –  SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

Waterman 52V Olive Ripple Pen & Pencil Combo – SUPER FLEX

Here is a Waterman 52V Olive Ripple with matching Pencil. The Olive Ripple is one of the most difficult Ripples to come by and very collectable. The pair are in excellent condition with very little fading. The gold-filled trim is in excellent condition with no brassing. There is a slight scratch across the top of the lever, but that is about it. Imprints are good and readable. The matching pencil is not restored. I merely cleaned it up. I assume it’s functional but I haven’t tested it. The Waterman #2 14kt. nib is a nice XF point that writes smooth with a slightly stubbish feel. This nib has the circle rather than the heart air hole, and it has some scuffing on top of it wearing down the nib imprints some. The flex on this pen is quite soft and flexes quite easily up to 1.6mm. The nib is a bit finicky about the angle you hold the nib to paper. The feed keeps up well, but if you get off the right angle you can get some railroading. SOLD

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex

This is a standard size Wahl-Eversharp Skyline in solid black. The gold-filled trim in in good condition with just a little bit of plate loss on the middle part of the lever. There is some light scratching throughout as is typical with these pens and most noticeable in the black models, but it is all very light and much has buffed out nicely. The cap has worn some rings on the barrel when it is screwed on an off. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a wet writing F that really feels like a medium due to it’s wetness. It is smooth and juicy and flexes with ease up to 1.9mm. This is one of the softer flexing Skyline nibs I have used. They are generally a bit stiffer, but this one is nearing wet noodle status. The feed has no issues keeping up with flex work and dumps the ink on the page when flexing. You’ll get a lot of sheen with this pen. SOLD

Wahl BCHR Ring Top –  SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

20170117_150024

Wahl BCHR Ring Top – Super Flex

Here is a Wahl Vest size pen (4 1/2″ capped) in BCHR. It is in very good condition. The black hard rubber is still, well, black. The chasing is excellent and the imprint on the top of the cap is still readable. The gold filled trim looks very good. There is a tiny bit of brassing on the edges of the bands, but I could only see with magnification. The pen is engraved “A. McGhee,” who a famous artist. Kidding. I have no idea this person is, but I’m sure he/she was/is very special to someone. A. Mchee did have teeth and left some bite marks on the section (see pic), but there aren’t really any marks anywhere else. The 14kt. Wahl #2 nib is a very nice, wet, and smooth writing F (0.4mm). It is a tad oblique (see pic). Flex is quite easy and the range is up to 1.7mm. It has pretty good responsiveness and the feed is plenty wet to keep up. This is very nice little Wahl pen.

Waterman 52V –  SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

20170124_174217

Waterman 52V – SUPER FLEX

Here a nice Waterman 52V in BCHR. This is one of my favorite sized Watermans. It has the bulk of the 52 and feels like one when posted, but is also compact and portable. The black hard rubber on this pen has turned to a very dark, grayish brown. Chasing is a little worn but still has decent texture. The imprints are very crisp. This pen had no original ring top or clip. The nickel lever looks great with no brassing. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a great nib. It writes as a wet, smooth and springy XF. Very smooth for such a fine nib. It has soft, responsive flex up to 1.8mm. A very quality flex nib.

Aikin Lambert Eyedropper – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

20161129_131054

Aikin Lambert Eyedropper – Wet Noodle

Aikin Lambert was a quality pen maker that was eventually bought out by Waterman. This pen, however, would far predate that buyout. This is an early 1900s eyedropper in BCHR. The pen is in fair condition with a couple of exceptions. The BCHR is in pretty good condition. It is still pretty black, though the cap is faded more to a darker brown. The chasing and imprints are still very crisp. The cap fits snuggly on the pen, but I am pretty sure it is no original to the pen. Still it works just like the original would have. Also the gold filled repousse band on the back end of the barrel is split though it feels firmly secured to the barrel. There is little to no brassing on either band. This pen is equipped with a fairly rare Aikin Lambert hopeless nib with the air hole located in the feed. This nib is a very soft, paint brush wet noodle. It’s range may not be huge, but it takes almost no pressure to get the nib to flex. Due to this softness and, for me at least, how thin the section feels in my hands, it is a bit more difficult to control. Probably not the best nib for a beginner. It writes normally as a very wet XF and flexes to 1.6mm. A great example of a very old well made eyedropper. SOLD

Waterman 0504 Eyedropper – Wet Noodle (Rare) (SOLD)

IMG_9418

Waterman 0504 Eyedropper – Wet Noodle

Here is an example of the some the superb quality that Waterman could produce. This is a rare 0504 with gold filled repousse gold-filled overlay. There is little to no brassing on the pen. No dings. By the breather hole in the cap there is a spot where the overlay was chipped, but that is the only defect I could really find. The “0504” on the back of the barrel is still readable though worn some. Cap holds tight. The black hard rubber section and end are still very black. It has the initials “W.A.B.” in a lovely script engraved on its side. The 14kt. Waterman #4 is just a delight to use. It’s not a paintbrush flex nib, but it is so responsive and soft that it really makes flex writing easy. It’s almost dip nib like. Just look how precise the flex can be even within a 5mm square. It writes decently smooth for how fine it is (XXF) and takes just a little bit of pressure to get a larger line. If you are looking for huge flex, this probably isn’t your pen. But if you are looking for quality, crisp flex, this is a great pen. Plus, as a rare, top of the line Waterman of its day, it is highly collectable. SOLD

Mabie Todd Swan with Over/ Under Feed – SUPER FLEX/WET NOODLE (SOLD)

20161129_132712

Mabie Todd Swan with Over/Under Feed – Super Flex/ Wet Noodle

Here is a made in New York Mabie Todd “Swan” 1500 eyedropper dating it to pre-1915 when the company moved entirely to England. The pen is in pretty good condition. Normally, I never buff BCHR; however, rules are made to be broken, no? This pen was such a hideous form of light green brown due to moisture exposure that I buffed it down to a dark gray-brown color. The chasing is worn but still visible though having little texture. All imprints are easily readable. The over/under feed is in good condition as well. The 14kt. Mabie Todd Swan #2 nib is a lovely writing F (0.4mm). It is very wet as many of these over/under feed pens are. It has a nice soft flex. Not quite a paint brush and I would say really on the border between super flex and wet noodle. The tip of the nib at first looks to have a bend at its tip. That however is not the case. There is a depression there, but it is part of the grind of the nib. I am not sure whether that grind was original or whether it was later added by a nibmeister, nor am I sure what the purpose of such a grind would be. Nevertheless, it does not have any effect on the nib performance. A fine example of an early New York made Swan. SOLD

Wirt Red Mottled Eyedropper – Wet Noodle (Near Mint Condition) SOLD

IMG_9400

Wirt Red Mottled Eyedropper – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Here is a gorgeous near mint condition Paul E. Wirt red mottled eyedropper pen. The pen looks and feels brand new. The only flaw in appearance is that the section where the slip cap rubs (as it should to keep the friction holding the cap on) is a bit less polished looking. But honestly if the rest of the pen didn’t look so good, it would just look normal. Just fantastic condition. Imprints are good and crisp. The section is ribbed for a good grip. The pen was made sometime in the early 1900s (it has a pat. date of 1904). Unfortunately, the pen does not have the famous unvented Wirt nib. Rather, it has a lovely Warranted 14kt. nib that writes as a smooth XXF with a very easy flex up to 1.7mm. If you want monster flex, this isn’t your pen. But if you want nice, easy flex capable of flex even on a very small detailed level, this is a great pen for it. It’s a fantastic piece of history in great condition. SOLD

Vintage Eyedropper with Overlay – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

img_0070

Vintage Eyedropper with Gold Filled Overaly – Wet Noodle

Here is a well made unbranded vintage eyedropper with gold filled overlay. This pen is in good condition. The black hard rubber is now a very dark blackish brown. The gold filled overlay has little to no brassing that I can see. It is personalized with what I think says “Dr. Malvine Judell.” The Warranted 14kt. nib is a very soft wet noodle. This one feels like a paintbrush. The nib does appear to have sustained some slight damage at some point in its life as you can see in the pic. A slight crease in the end of the tines. It does not affect the writing quality of the nib however. The tipping is thin but present. It writes a very smooth F line. It is such a soft nib that it takes a very light hand not to get at least some flex. The feed is plenty wet and it has very good responsiveness. Lots of fun. SOLD

Waterman 54 (Factory Italic) – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

20161101_133044

Waterman 54 with Factory Italic –WET NOODLE

Here is a Waterman 54 in BCHR. The black hard rubber has faded some to a dark grayish brown. The chasing has a little wear, but is still pretty crisp. The imprints are all crisp. The nickel plated trim has some light wear but no plate loss. The nib on this pen is just incredible. It’s a factory fine italic with a bit of an oblique that writes smooth and wet from a “normal” writing angle. The flex on this pen is a very soft, paintbrush level flex that goes from 0.6mm to 2.3mm with ease. The italic grind on this nib makes flex work have that much more character and offers a tremendous amount of potential. This is a rare nib to find. Wet noodle 54s are not easy to discover, but a wet noodle italic! I love these. As you can tell I’m kind of freaking out about it. If you love italics and you love flex, this may be your dream pen.  SOLD

Mabie Todd Swan with Over/ Under feed – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_0087

Mabie Todd Swan 1500 – Wet Noodle

Here is a made in England Mabie Todd Swan 1500 with a soft wet noodle nib with huge flex. This pen has pretty common wear for a BCHR pen. It has faded some to a dark brown. The chasing has worn some as well but does still have some texture. The imprints still look pretty good with just a bit of wear. The accommodation clip has significant wear as the photos show. The Mabie Todd 14kt. nib is a special nib. The flex is almost paintbrush soft and goes all the way to 2.5mm! It writes normally as XF/F. It writes smoothly normally but takes a light hand otherwise it will write more like a wet Fine. The feed is plenty wet to keep up with the monster flex. Great pen with a wet noodle nib of a quality that is hard to find.  SOLD

Unbranded Vintage Pen with Gold-Filled Overlay – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8818

Unbranded Vintage Pen with Gold Filled Overaly – Wet Noodle

Here is a well made unbranded vintage pen with a lovely gold-filled overlay. The pen is very similar in style to a Parker Lucky Curve button-filler. Not only is it also a button filler, but it has a very similar “Christmas tree” style feed. The pen is in near mint condition. The black hard rubber is shiny jet black with no signs of fading. The gold filled overlay has alternating sections of pinstripe and crosshatching. The pen has the look and feel of quality pens of its day. The Warranted 14kt. nib is a soft, paintbrush like wet noodle. It is difficult to judge the “normal” writing line width as the least pressure causes line variation, but I have graded it about a 0.3mm or XF. The nib is quite snappy and responsive for how soft it is allowing for not only ease of flex but also crisp quality of flex. Not all the great pens of the past were by the big names. Here is a prime example. SOLD

Mabie Todd Swan Gold-Filled Ring Top – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8967

Mabie Todd Swan Gold Filled Ring Top – Wet Noodle

Here is a lovely little made in New York Mabie Todd Swan gold filled ring top. The pen was made sometimes between 1906 when “Bard” was dropped from the Mabie Todd & Co. name and 1915 when all production was moved to the UK. It is in good condition overall. There is some slight brassing on the edges at the end of the barrel and there is some light scratching throughout the pen. Also there is a small ding just below the lever (see pics). Neverthless, the pen still looks good. There is a personalization that reads “Gustel.” The star of the pen is of course the 14kt. Mabie Todd nib. It is a wet noodle nib that is nearing paintbrush ease of flex. Normally it writes as a wet, soft fine that has a nice smooth sweet spot. The feed keeps up well with the flexing and even some of my inks that normally don’t flex well did good in this pen. It has a nice range from 0.4mm to 1.8mm and good responsiveness. If you are looking for an overall solid wet noodle pen that you can use with pretty much any ink, this is a great choice. (SOLD)

Parker Lucky Curve “Jack Knife Safety” Pen – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8752

Parker Lucky Curve “Jack Knife Safety” Pen – Wet Noodle

Here is a BCHR Parker Lucky Curve in the Jack Knife Safety style. The BCHR has browned a bit and is a very dark brown color. The chasing has is worn though visible. Imprints are also worn though mostly readable. The nickel plated clip has some wear and tiny nicks on the edges. No real significant brassing though. The 14kt. Lucky Curve #2 nib is a very wet, slightly stubbish F. The flex comes very easy and you will definitely flex without trying to. It has great range going from 0.4mm to 2.2mm and is very responsive and snappy. It’s a hundred year old pen in good condition with a snappy wet noodle nib. SOLD

Parker Duofold – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8736

Parker Duofold – Wet Noodle

This is a Canadian made Park Duofold in black celluloid. The pen looks very nice. There is some light scratching throughout as is to be expected. There are a few deeper scratches toward the back of the barrel, but even that isn’t terribly noticeable without look for it. The clip ring is a bit larger in diameter than the cap, and I believe it is not original. The clip sizing for this particular pen is not a typical standard size, and I was unable to locate the correct size. If you didn’t know, you’d just assume that was the way the pen was supposed to look. The only brassing I see is on the ball of the clip. The bands are in great condition. Imprints are still quite good. This Duofold is quite rare, however, in that it sports an ultra flexible wet noodle 14kt. Parker Duofold nib. Duofold nibs are generally very firm, but Parker did produce a very small number of these nibs. The flex on this is very easy, though not quite paintbrush easy. It flexes up to a whopping 2.5mm going from 0.4mm to 2.5mm (a 2.1mm range!). It writes smoothly as a very wet and smooth F (0.4mm). Overall a fantastic pen. SOLD

Mabie Todd & Bard Swan with Under/ Over Feed – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8725

Mabie Todd & Bard Swan – Wet Noodle

Here is a BCHR Mabie Todd & Bard “Swan” eyedropper in just amazing near mind condition. This is a pre-1907 pen (1907 being when Mabie Todd dropped the “& Bard”) and probably pre- 1900. Latest patent date is 1895. Despite it’s years, the hard rubber is still shiny jet black. The chasing is crisp and looking new, and the imprints look as good as the day it was bought new. This pen could hardly have ever been used. This eyedropper has the over/ under feed not uncommon among these very early Swan pens. The only flaw I can really find with this pen is that the cap is a bit loose and is not tight when posted. The 14kt. Mabie Todd nib is a soft, wet noodle nib. It’s not paintbrush soft, but it is still very easy to flex. The beauty of this Swan is that it doesn’t write like a firehose like most of these Swans do. It’s still wet, to be sure, but I would say it’s more of a 7 or 8 /10. And it has a great and smooth writing fine nib. I like it a lot as a writer.  The nib has good responsiveness when flexed. This is a Swan that is in very rare, near mint condition. SOLD

Waterman 52 Red Ripple – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8525

Waterman 52 Red Ripple – Wet Noodle

Here is a gorgeous Waterman 52 red ripple with nickel plated trim. This Waterman was produced for a European market. The nickel plated trim is unusual on a red ripple, but is much more commonly seen in Europe. The clip reads “Ideal. Paris.” It is in great shape with only minimal fading of the hard rubber. The clip and band do have a little bit of brassing, but they look pretty good. The brassing on the lever can only be seen with magnification and looks great. Imprints are all very readable. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib on this pen is extremely fine which is somewhere between XXF (0.2mm) and XXXF (0.1m) depending on the ink you use. It has an extremely responsive wet noodle flex up to 2.0mm (BBB). It is not paintbrush like, but it is very easy to flex and has extremely good snap back. Very near to dip nib type flex. This nib is capable of hairlines that quickly turn to swells with light pressure and then back quickly to hairlines when you release the pressure. SOLD

Waterman 12 Sleeve Filler (Rare) – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8081

Waterman 12 Sleeve Filler – Wet Noodle

Here is one of the most rare filling systems you will find on a Waterman. The pen has a sleeve hiding an opening in the barrel where there is a bar that you push to fill the pen. You simply slide the sleeve back, immerse the pen, and push the bar. These have a slip cap similar to a 12 eyedropper, but a bit longer. The BCHR is faded to a brown and the chasing is worn but not entirely without texture. The imprints are still pretty good and very readable. The squeeze bar has lots most of it’s original paint. The pen sports a very nice 14kt. Waterman #2 that writes superbly as an XF. Very smooth. It also has some great flex going from 0.3mm to 2.3mm. This is not a paintbrush wet noodle, and really is on the border between super flex and wet noodle as far as ease of flex is concerned. But the nib is very responsive and easy to control. A great and rare pen. SOLD

Omas 555/S Brevetto – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8441

Omas 555/S Brevetto – Wet Noodle

Here is a beautiful little Omas with a fantastic nib. This is, I believe, a black celluloid Omas pen from the 1950’s. It is a piston-filler with gold-filled trim. It’s not a large pen measuring at 4 5/8″ capped, but it does have the Omas quality feel. I bought this pen fully functional, so other than a little polishing I have not done much to it. It appears to have been lightly used, and it does come in its original box with original paper. The pen has only very light surface scratches that are not noticeable unless you are looking for them. The gold-filled trim is in excellent condition. And the 14kt. Omas 585 “Extra” nib is a dream writer. It is a nice, soft, smooth writing XF, and it flexes with the slightest pressure. The flex is soft and smooth and quite responsive. The only “negative” I’ve noticed is that the nib does require you not rotate your hand (which is bad form and hard on nibs anyway) or it will railroad some. Also, some drier and thinner inks will railroad in this pen. The feed is good but it’s not going to perform like a vintage Waterman feed. The Pilot Iroshizuku Yu Yake worked fabulously, though. A great Omas.  SOLD

Mabie Todd “Swan” with Over/Under Feed – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8360

Mabie Todd “Swan” – Wet Noodle

Here is a made in England Mabie Todd “Swan” with an over/ under feed. The black chased hard rubber has faded to a dark brown and the chasing is pretty worn though lightly visible. The imprints are also worn, thought mostly readable. This is a thin pen similar thickness to a #2 pencil. The 14kt. Mabie Todd nib is a great wet noodle nib with near paintbrush ease of flex. This is an eyedropper pen, and being as thin as it is and having such a wet feed it is very important that you keep the barrel half full or so of ink. If less than that, the thin internal chamber will get warm and the warm air will push out the ink much faster resulting in gushing. But if you keep it half full, you should be good to go. The nib writes smooth and wet normally as a F (0.4mm) and flexes all the way up to 2.2mm. For how wet it is, it still maintains quite good responsiveness. Overall a great, hard to come by flex pen. SOLD

Waterman 52 with 18KR. Overlay – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8130

Waterman 52 with 18KR Overlay – Wet Noodle

This is an unique Waterman 52 with an 18kt. gold filled overlay. The overlay was done by the Italian Waterman importer Fratelli Cavaliere. So it is an American made Waterman with an Italian overlay for a European market. The pen is in overall great condition. The one rough spot is the lever box. The tab underneath the box (and that holds these in place) broke at some point and someone had the great idea (sarcasm) of trying to solder it to the pen. I’ve removed most of the solder, but the lever box does appear a little rough. I used an adhesive for box, which will last a good long time. There is only a tiny bit of brassing on the cap near the clip. The clip is loose but isn’t going anywhere. There are a couple of dings, but very few for a full overlay pen like this. The intricate design on the overlay is very nice and is real quality work. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a nice wet noodle nib. This isn’t a paintbrush, but it is very soft as well as responsive. It writes normally (or at least with very little pressure) as an XXF. Just a little bit more pressure and it is much wetter. More like a F. Normally writing is quite smooth for how fine the nib is. It flexes up to 2.0mm easily. A beautiful, unique wet noodle. SOLD

Waterman 52 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8098

Waterman 52 –WET NOODLE

Here a great Waterman 52 wet noodle in BCHR. The pen is in good condition. The BCHR has faded some to a dark brown and does have some small spots here and there of lighter discoloration. The chasing is worn but still has some decent texture. The imprints are worn but readable. The inscription “Mrs. J.W. Rinker 1245 E. Oak Street” is imprinted in the side of the barrel above the Waterman imprint. The nickel plated lever is in great condition with little to no plate loss. There is and was no clip to this pen. The real story of this pen, though, comes with the nib, which is just phenomenal. The Waterman #2 is a paintbrush flex noodle with a huge range and good, springy, responsive action. I’ve listed it as an XXF, but it’s pretty hard to grade because it takes an extremely light hand to write without flexing. It goes up to 2.5mm easily. It is not an easy nib to control because of its extreme ease of flex. This is an extremely rare noodle nib of your dreams.  SOLD

Parker Lucky Curve Eyedropper #20 – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_7198

Parker Lucky Curve Eyedropper #20 – Wet Noodle

Here is a very old and difficult to obtain Parker Lucky Curve eyedropper (latest patent date is April 4, 1899).  The pen is in overall good condition. The black hard rubber is and always was smooth with no chasing. The hard rubber has faded some to a dark grayish brown. The imprints are still quite good. The pen still has the original Lucky Curve feed. The very early 14kt. Parker Lucky Curve nib is an almost paintbrush like wet noodle that has great responsiveness and control. The right tine of this nib, however, was bent down at one point and still has a bit of wrinkle. I have aligned the tines pretty close, but I could not completely remove the wrinkle. The result is that with some inks it does railroad a bit, but with wetter more lubricating inks (Sailor Souten is what is in the pics) there is no problem. The nib is a quite wet XF and writes smoothly.  (SOLD)

Conklin Crescent Gold Filled Pen & Pencil Combo – Wet Noodle

This is a Conklin Crescent gold filled ring top pen and pencil combo that is in excellent condition. It will come in the original Conklin pen box. The box has wear but is still in good condition, and snap closure works well. There are a few tiny dings on the cap in the personalization box (there is no personalization in it), and a couple of tiny dings on the end of the barrel. I saw one very small ding on the pencil. I see no brassing on either piece. The 14kt. #2 Conklin Toledo nib is a near paintbrush wet noodle nib. Almost any pressure at all will make it flex. It takes a very light hand to write normally. It is a wet F/M nib (0.5mm) that flexes up to 2.4mm with ease.   (SOLD)

Here is a very nice full size Wahl flat top pen in BCHR. The pen is in overall very good condition. The BCHR has dulled a bit but is still very black. The gold filled trim is in very good condition with just a little bit of brassing on the lever. There are a few teethes marks on the section. The chasing is still good and crisp and the imprint is very readable though has a little wear on it. The 14kt. Wahl #2 nib is a great flex nib. It is not quite at a paintbrush status, but it is a very easy to flex. It has very good responsiveness and a range from XF to BBB (0.3mm to 2.2mm). It writes normally as a soft and smooth XF. Mabie Todd Swan with Over/Under Feed – Wet Noodle

Here is a nice 120ish year old eye dropper from Mabie Todd. This is not only a New York made Swan, but it is Mabie Todd & Bard made pen meaning that this is a pen from the first years of Mabie Todd making fountain pens. Bard was dropped from the name in 1906. The newest patent date is from 1895. This is a petite feeling pen. It’s 5″ long but it is about as thin as a #2 pencil. The pen is in good condition. There is minimal fading on the BCHR and it is mostly on the cap, which has faded to a blackish brown. The imprints are great throughout the pen. Very crisp and readable. This is a 3012 model. The pen writes extremely wet. I even add some water to wetter inks just to slow them down a bit. The 14kt. Swan nib is a paintbrush like wet noodle that flexes from 0.5mm to 2.2mm. This nib will flex with very little pressure, so normal writing takes a light hand.  SOLD

I found this pen already restored, so other than looking it over carefully, replacing the nib, and polish it up a bit, I did very little. The 14kt. Lucky Curve #2 is a fantastic wet noodle nib. Very soft and smooth with excellent responsiveness making it easy to control. It is an XF nib that flexes all the way up to 2.1mm. Stunning example of a foreign market customized Parker. SOLD

Craig BCHR Flat Top – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_7410

Craig BCHR Flat Top – Wet Noodle

This a full size Craig pen in BCHR. Craig was a sub brand of Sheaffer, though little is known of the company other than that they usually produced pens of lower quality than Sheaffer itself, and was run by Walter Sheaffer’s son, Craig. The BCHR is in great condition with very little fading. The chasing and imprint are both very crisp. The lever has some small rust spots toward the bottom. The Warranted 14kt. nib is a Medium Italic (0.6mm) that has very easy, almost paintbrush like flex up to 1.8mm. It is also quite responsive. This nib offers a lot of character.  SOLD

Parker Lucky Curve – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_6747

Parker Lucky Curve –  Wet Noodle

Here is a pretty little Parker Lucky Curve pen in “true blue.” The pen is in overall good condition. It’s a vest size pen. The true blue coloring is faded some but is still very pretty. There is some kind of nick in the side of the barrel and a similar on the cap (see pics). The gold filled trim is in good condition with minimal brassing. The 14kt. Lucky Curve nib is a great little flex nib with a range of 0.4mm to 2.3mm. This is not a paintbrush nib, but ease of flex is still very good. It has quite good responsive and control. It also writes well as a nice wet fine nib. (SOLD)

Parker Lucky Curve Jack Knife “Safety Pen” – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_7135

Parker Lucky Curve Jack Knife “Safety Pen” – Wet Noodle

Here is a Parker Lucky Curve Jack Knife Safety Pen with a fantastic wet noodle “Lucky Curve” nib. The black hard rubber body is still pretty black. It’s dulled just a bit and does have one spot on the barrel that is more faded. There are scratches throughout the pen. The imprints are pretty good. Definitely readable. The nickel plated clip has some wear and pitting. But the real point of this pen is the great “Lucky Curve” nib. It writes normally as a very, glassy smooth F. The flex isn’t quite paintbrush, but it is very easy and responsive ranging from 0.4 (F) to 2.2mm (BBB). A nice little noodle.  (SOLD)

Waterman 414 – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_7065

Waterman 414  – SUPER FLEX

Here is a Waterman a fantastic Waterman 414. Basically it’s a Waterman 14 eyedropper with sterling silver filigree, and this one is in excellent condition. The black hard rubber has very minimal fading. The filigree is still on great condition and has no personalization. The clip looks good with just a few very small scratches. Imprints are little worn, but still very readable. Even the patent date imprint on the feed is still good. This Waterman #4 nib is close to being a noodle. It just doesn’t quite have the ease of flex of noodle, but it is close. Still, it’s a great nib that writes as a wet and very smooth F and flexes big. Up to 2.3mm with ease and with nice responsiveness. SOLD

Waterman 0552 – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_6922

Waterman 0552 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Here is a gorgeous Waterman 52 with an 18kt. gold filled overlay done by the Italian company Kosca. These were quality overlays that are quite rare and desirable. The body is stamped “18KR,” which refers to 18kt rolled gold in Italian. When my wife saw the pen she said, “Wow. That looks like the pen of someone who wants to make a statement.” The body does have a few dings but not many and not large. The clip is bent out a bit. The lever does show some wear on the nickel plating. The gold filled overlay, however, does not show any signs of brassing at all. It’s a pen with decent weight that sits well in the hand and feels fantastic. I will say that I had very little to do with restoring this pen, which was just recently restored by an historic pen shop in Milan. But as classy as the pen is, the nib is the real star. It’s a 14kt. Waterman #2 that really feels more like a dip nib than a fountain pen nib. This is not a daily writer. It’s needle point XXXF (0.1mm). It’s the finest nib I’ve ever had on a fountain pen. And just like a needle point dip nib, this isn’t going to be that ultra smooth writer. It can make the finest of hairlines. It’s also a remarkable responsive nib that feels almost as close to a flex dip nib as you will find. It’s not a paintbrush in terms of ease of flex, but it is quite easy. A great nib for copperplate. SOLD.

Wahl Eversharp Lady’s Size – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_6912

Wahl Eversharp Lady’s Size –  Wet Noodle

Here is a pretty little Wahl-Eversharp in a green, pearl, and black agate. The pen does have some discoloring as is common with these pens. The cap has quite a bit less than the barrel. The gold filled trim is in good condition with little to no brassing. The imprint is only partly readable. This pen, however, has an outstanding nib. It’s a 14kt. Wahl-Eversharp “Signature” nib. It’s quite rare to find a Signature nib this flexible. The nib is right between an XXF and XF at 0.25mm, but you would never know it is that find because it is extremely smooth. An absolute joy to write with. And of course it has great flex. This is a very responsive nib that flex up to 2.1mm (BBB+). A fantastic portable pen with huge potential. SOLD

IMG_6471

Wahl-Eversharp Doric (Rare Flex!) – Wet Noodle

Here is a first generation Wahl-Eversharp standard size Doric in black celluloid. The pen is in very nice condition. There is one very small nick in the body and one small scratch (maybe 2mm long). The gold filled trim is in good condition with only very tine spots of brassing that mostly can only be seen with magnification. Imprints are all crisp. The 14kt. #2 Eversharp nib is wet, ultra glassy medium (0.6mm) and does it flex. Now there is flex and then there is FLEX!! This has almost paintbrush ease of flex. It takes a light hand for it not to flex. And when you do flex it spreads all the way to BBBB (2.9mm!). That is ultra rare flex width. (SOLD)

Waterman Emerald Ray Ink Vue with Music Nib – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_6676

Waterman Emerald Ray Ink Vue with Music Nib – Wet Noodle

Here is a very special pen. It’s a fantastic Waterman Emerald Ray Ink Vue Pen with a New Old Stock Waterman Music Nib. The pen itself is in very good condition. It has great color. Very little scratching. Imprints are good, and just look at that barrel clarity! There is one spot of brassing on the edge of the clip. Actually, more of a nick than brassing. Also the very thin gold filled band on the top of the cap is partially missing (see pic), and the identical band on the bottom of the barrel is loose. Otherwise, the trim is in great condition.  And then, of course, there is the nib. This nib by itself is worth several hundred. It’s in mint, never before used condition. It writes as a wet 0.9mm italic (that’s line width and not nib width). It has nice line variation. It’s more cursive italic than stub, I would say. Certainly not a crisp italic, though. It just glides across the page. It has a huge flex going up to BBBB (3.1mm). This pen uses a lot of ink very fast, so it really takes a good, lubby ink to take advantage of the full flex potential of this pen. I’ll send along a sample of such ink so you can hit the ground running. This may be your grail pen. SOLD

Wahl-Eversharp Doric (Rare Burma) – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_6469

Wahl-Eversharp Doric (Rare Burma) – Wet Noodle

Here is a first generation Wahl-Eversharp standard size Doric in the rare and desirable Burma color. Burma is a black/ pearl swirl. The color is good and there are no signs of crystallization. On the Burma Dorics the trim also came in silver and that is the case with this pen. The silver clip has significant brassing (see pics), but the lever and band are in good condition. The 14kt. Eversharp nib on this pen is superb. It is a very smooth fine that is wet though not gushing ink. It has a flex range up to 2.5mm. Ease of flex is borderline wet noodle (on border between super flex and wet noodle) so this isn’t a paintbrush. It is nevertheless a fabulous nib with some big flex in a rather rare Doric model. If the clip was in better condition, the price would be much higher. PRICE: $449 (ON HOLD)

IMG_6473

Mabie Todd Swan- Wet Noodle  (SOLD)

Here is a made in New York Mabie Todd “Swan” eyedropper. The BCHR on this pen is very faded to a medium brown color. The chasing is worn smooth and can only be seen on the body. The imprints are also worn and are not readable. The beauty of this pen, however is not it’s hundred year old body but it’s fabulous wet noodle nib. The nib is a 14kt. Mabie Todd (N.Y.) that writes as a wet Fine that has a bit of a stubbish look and feel. It has fabulous flex range going all the way to 2.4mm quite easily. This isn’t quite a paintbrush nib, but it is quite easy with pretty good responsiveness that allows for good control.  (SOLD)

Waterman 13 Eyedropper – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_5469

Waterman 13 Eyedropper – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

Here is a Waterman 13 with an outstanding wet noodle nib. It is made of smooth black hard rubber (no original chasing) which has greyed and faded a bit though it is till blackish. Imprints are still very good. An accommodation cap was installed at some point and moved much later leaving a blacker outline on the cap where the clip used to be. There also appeared to be some kind of band on the barrel (not an original band though) that was removed and left a blacker outline from where it used to be. The clip still functions but has rusted a bit. The real star of this pen though is the nib. It is a great, almost dip nib like wet noodle. It is extremely fine and flexes up to 2.3mm very easily. It would make a great Copperplate nib. SOLD

Wahl-Eversharp Doric w/ “Flexible” Nib – Wet Noodle

Here is a great 1st generation Wahl-Eversharp Doric in black with gold-filled trim and a great Eversharp “Flexible” nib. The pen is in great condition. It does have some light scratching throughout the pen, which always more obvious in glossy black. The gold filled trim is in good condition. I can only find some light brassing on the band, and it took magnification to see that. To the naked eye, it all looks great. The double check gold seal is still present and looking good. But the stunner on this pen is the fabulous 14kt. Everhsharp, Gold Seal “Flexible” nib. This is a smooth writing XF that has massive flex up to 2.8mm!! This is not a paintbrush, but the flex is quite easy. The feed has no problem keeping up with this monster flexing action. (SOLD)

Waterman 52 – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_5834

Waterman 52 – Wet Noodle

This Waterman 52 is made of BCHR and is in great condition. The BCHR is still quite black. The cap, which was and is a clipless version, looks near mint with crisp chasing and jet black color. The chasing on the body is more worn, though visible, and has faded a bit to a duller black. The side imprint is worn, though mostly readable. The “52” is very crisp with the red dye still present. The nickel plated lever is in good condition with only minimal plate loss. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is fantastic. It is a very juicy, smooth writing fine with enormous amounts of flex. If you don’t write softly, the tines will spread and ink and the nib will write more like a very wet Medium. The flex is very easy, though not a paintbrush, and goes all the way up to 2.8mm. It is rather responsive as well and makes for some big and crisp looking flex writing.  SOLD

The pen has nothing but the lightest scratches on it and you only see those if you look close. It does have some brassing on the top of the clip and a little on the lever; otherwise, the rim is in great shape. Imprint on the cap is a little worn, but the one on the barrel is still crisp. The 14kt. Waterman #5 is beauty! It is an extremely smooth writing fine (0.4mm) and would make a fantastic everyday writer. But it also flexes to a massive 2.6mm. There are a few scratches here and there, but nothing large or noticeable. The clip and lever show not signs of brassing. The Conklin Toledo crescent nib is an excellent wet noodle. It has a range of o.3mm to 2.2mm. It is not a paintbrush, which makes it easier to control. It also has very good responsiveness and generous ink flow. The XF nib writes well as a normal nib also. The other side has much less fading and is almost black. Chasing and imprints are all very good. The nib is very, very flexible. Almost to a paintbrush ease of flex. There is some iridium wear on the right tine. There is iridium present on the right side but not a lot. A very fun pen to do some flex writing with. The chasing is pretty good with a few small spots of wear. The imprints are quite crisp. The lever has only one small spot of plate loss; otherwise, it is in excellent condition. The nib is a great, responsive 14kt. Mabie Todd nib that is very easy to flex. The responsiveness makes it very easy to control. Small, detailed flexing is crisp, and the nib has a great spring to it. The pen also works quite well for normal writing. The nib is quite smooth and feels surprisingly firm for normal writing. Overall, this is a very high quality wet noodle nib. (SOLD)

Wahl Rosewood Roller Clip  – WET NOODLE

Here is a gorgeous, near mint, Wahl Pen in Rosewood hard rubber. The pen is likely from the mid 1920s. There is very little fading of the hard rubber. The only flaws I found on the pen were a couple of bite marks on the section. The gold filled trim in very good condition. The nib is a nice, wet Wahl #2 with Wet Noodle ability. It writes normally as a fine and flexes up to at least 2.2mm. It is a really stunning pen in fantastic condition. (SOLD)

Waterman 52 – WET NOODLE

IMG_4655

Waterman 52 – WET NOODLE

A nice Waterman 52 in pretty good condition. The body of the pen is fairly black with minimal fading of the hard rubber. The cap does have some browning. It does appear that at some point the cap had some significant brown spots from being left in the sun or something, and then someone buffed or polished most of it away. Anyway, as you can see in the pics, there are some spots of browning when you look close. The chasing on the barrel is quite crisp as are the imprints. The cap chasing is more worn. There is some plate loss on the clip. A little bit on the lever. No bite marks, scratches or cracks that I could find. The nib is a very smooth fine that flexes easily up 2.0mm. I would grade this as a lower tier Wet Noodle. Just not quite as responsive as some of the better noodles I’ve had.  Still an excellent nib. The flex is just nice and smooth. It would make a great daily writer with some awesome “flair” potential.  PRICE: $299

IMG_4483

Waterman 12 1/2 Eyedropper – WET NOODLE  (SOLD)

This is a gorgeous little Waterman 12 1/2 Eyedropper. These pens are quite small. They are about the same girth as a #2 pencil. The pen is in excellent condition except for a couple caveats. The pen is pretty black. The chasing is very good, though a bit more worn on the barrel than the cap. The imprints are very clear and crisp. The gold filled bands are quite nice as well with just a few spots of plate loss on the front band. There is however about a 6mm crack in the cap lip probably from someone positing or capping too tightly (it’s a slip cap). There are a few bite marks on the end of the barrel. The nib also had two very, very tiny cracks coming out of each end of the air hole that I had filled. You have to look very hard to see signs of the repair. The nib is a super smooth XF with easy, responsive wet noodle flex up to 2.0mm. It’s not a paintbrush, but it is quite easy to do some great flex writing. Maybe not ideally suited for the large handed, but a great little flex pen. Even with the flaws, the nib on this pen is just too good to let go for less than this price. SOLD!

Rather than the typical ring top, this has a near perfect gold-filled “Ideal” clip. The gold band is also unique as it extends all the way over the lip of the cap. It has the initials “H. C. A.” engraved on it. The lever is also in great condition. By far the nicest 52V Red Ripple I’ve owned. The nib is a borderline “Wet Noodle.” It is right on the border between a high end “super flex” and lower end “wet noodle.” But this nib is the smoothest thing I’ve written with in a long time. You think you have smooth nibs and then you start writing with ones like this. It’s a bit of a stubbish F. A very beautiful and unique pen. SOLD

Parker Jack Knife Safety Pen – WET NOODLE

IMG_4007

Parker Jack Knife Safety Pen – WET NOODLE  (SOLD)

This is a very well maintained Parker Jack Knife Safety Pen. The Parker “Safety Pen” is not like the Moore or Waterman eye dropper/ retractable nib safety pen. For Parker, and other companies, it just meant a pen that had a safe screw on cap that you could put in your pocket without fearing that ink would get all over. This, in fact, is a button filler. It did have a crack in the cap that was sealed. I would have included a picture, but it’s really hard to see it. You can see only if you look really hard. The BCHR is still very black, and the chasing though worn some is still very visible. The imprints are all readable and the latest patent date on this pen is 1898. It is quite rare to find this old a Parker BCHR in this nice of condition. It is a clip less cap by design. The “Lucky Curve” nib is long, sleek and gorgeous. It goes from F to BBB very easily. The highlight for me with this nib is the responsiveness or snap back of the nib. Awesome control of the flex action. It also works well as a very wet F. I should say that if this is like other Parkers I’ve had, it works best with thicker, saturated inks. I’ve only used Pilot Iroshizuku inks which as usual work awesome. Price: SOLD

Waterman 52 1/2 V – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_3913

Waterman 52 1/2 V – WET NOODLE

This a smooth black hard rubber (no original chasing) pen that has now turned brown. The gold trim is in good condition with little brassing on the band and almost none on the lever. The imprints are worn but readable. But really this pen is about the nib, which is a fabulous wet noodle with fantastic control. The nib ranges from 0.35 (XF/F) to 2.1mm! Flex is smooth and easy. Price: $300

Wahl-Eversharp Doric Junior – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

IMG_3900

Wahl-Eversharp Doric Junior – WET NOODLE

Here is a stunning 1st Generation Wahl Doric Junior in Morroco (Red & Gold swirl) celluloid). This pen is in great condition without the crystalized ends that are so common on these pens. The gold trim is in great condition with no brassing. There are no major flaws on the pen that I can see. The nib is an adjustable #3. The flex on this nib is paintbrush like and it is wet. This Wet Noodle is extra wet and extra noodley. It has good responsiveness, so although the flex is so easy you can still maintain some decent control. Newbies may still have a bit of trouble controlling, but anybody using this nib is going to have some. It can be used as a normal writer after adjusting the nib to minimize the flex. The beauty of an adjustable nib is you can set various levels of flex to control how big or small you want to go. This is an amazing pen. SOLD

Waterman 12 Red Mottled with (Rare) Star Nib – WETNOODLE – SOLD

IMG_3688

Waterman 12 Red Mottled with (Rare) Star Nib – WET NOODLE    (SOLD)

This is a gorgeous Waterman 12 Red Mottled eye dropper with the quite rare star nib. It’s a pretty rare pen period. The only patent date on it is 1884! That is the first patent Waterman obtained. It’s well over a 100 years and probably the oldest pen I’ve even owned. And it is in amazing condition. The clip is good shape, and the red mottled body looks great. The imprints are crisp. And the nib! Not only is this the old and rare star nib, but this is a paintbrush Wet Noodle that goes from XF to BBB. It will make a super flex nib feel like a nail. It will probably make you into a flexing snob, but oh well. I should say that it does work for normal writing, but it’s not the best. The nib is just so soft. Just an amazing, very old pen. SOLD

Parker Duofold – WET NOODLE – SOLD

IMG_3573

1928 Parker Duofold – WET NOODLE    (SOLD)

This is a 1928 Parker Lucky Curve Duofold. It’s a thin profile flat top, but a rarer long version. It is a “True Blue” Permanite pen. The pen is in pretty good condition overall. There is some color change of the barrel, as is common with Parker’s Permanite. The clip has some brassing. And there is a small chip on the top of the cap (see pic). And that’s about it. The nib is a long, super soft, super springy Parker Lucky Curve #2 Fine nib. But the real story is that it is a Wet Noodle. The flex on it is very smooth and springy. Now the feed on this Parker is not the fountain that you will find in a good many Watermans, but it keeps up pretty well.  And of course wetter ink helps. The springiness of the nib allows for great flex even on a smaller scale which generally requires an XF or XXF nib to do well. I bought this nib already restored, but I did do some nib and feed adjustments.   SOLD

Waterman 12 – WET NOODLE (SOLD)

Waterman 12 – WET NOODLE  (SOLD)

This pen is in near mint condition. The chasing shows almost signs of wear. The hart rubber has minimal browning. When I show this pen to non-fountain pen aficionados and ask them how old they think it is, I usually get a response like, “It looks pretty new to me.” I have done no polishing or blacking. It’s just nice. Plus the #2 nib is paint brush like with some massive flex lines going all the way up to at least 3.0mm. The nib also writes pretty nicely as regular Fine nib pen. I would say it’s between Fine and Medium.

SIZE:  5 1/8″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, F to BBBB,  WET NOODLE! (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)
