Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This Skyline come in nave with the green and navy pinstripe cap. The trim on this pen is in good condition with little to no signs of plate loss. The name “Max W. Reedy” is imprinted on the cap. There does appear that the pen was exposed to a little heat at some point. There are two small spots on the edge of the section near the nib where it seems a little a piece of ash or something fell. Otherwise, it looks to be in pretty decent condition. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a nice writing XF. Unlike many Skylines it isn’t super wet but does have a good flow. I’ve graded the flex as a “super flex” which may be a bit generous. It’s a bit stiff for super flex, but it does have a nice responsiveness and great flow making nice flex writing pretty easy.

Waterman 3V – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 3V – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 3V in black hard rubber. The hard rubber has faded to a dark brown. The chrome trim has some scratching on the clip and the band. The lever looks pretty clean. Side imprint is readable, but the imprint on the end of the barrel is worn off. This pen did not have any chasing on the hard rubber originally. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a nice, smooth writing XF (0.3mm) that has good flow but is not overly wet. It has some pretty good flex that ranges up to 1.6mm (BB+). The flow keeps up well and the nib has some pretty nice responsiveness. A nice vintage pen in “vest” size.

Waterman 12 1/2- Super Flex

Waterman 12 1/2- Super Flex  (On Ebay)

This originally clipless Waterman 12 1/2 is in quite good condition. The black hard rubber, which was originally smooth with no chasing, has faded some to a dark brown. But the imprints are very clear and crisp with little wear to them. This is a rather thin pen and probably not for the large handed. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a wet, smooth writing F (0.4mm). It flexes with ease up to 1.6mm (BB+). It doesn’t have the snappiest response but it’s good enough. A fun little eyedropper with some soft flex.

Moore L-82 – Good Flex (SOLD)

Moore L-82 – Super Flex/ Wet Noodle – (On Ebay)

There Moore L-82 is a vest size pen (similar to the Waterman 52V) in BCHR. The hard rubber on the pen has faded to a dark brown. A few spots on the body are a bit lighter. The chasing has also worn but it still has some texture. The imprints are still pretty crisp except the “L-82” on the end of the barrel which is a bit faded. The gold filled trim looks to be in pretty good condition as well. The 14kt. Moore #2 is an nice, smooth writing XF (0.3mm). It’s not overly wet. More like what you might find in modern Japanese pen as far as flow rather than a typical Western or vintage nib. It also has some nice flex. It has a nice range going from XF (0.3mm) to BB (1.6mm). This nib is close to what I would call a “super flex.” It just is a hair stiff for such a grade, and it does railroad occasionally, but only occasionally.

SIZE:  4 1/2″ Capped

NIB: 14kt. Moore #2, XF to BB (0.3mm-1.6mm) GOOD FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 52 1/2V Red Mottled – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 52 1/2V Red Ripple – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

This Waterman comes in a red mottled hard rubber that has minimal fading. The gold filled trim is in good condition. There is some brassing on the very edges of the band, and a tiny ding on the lever. The cap is also missing the original ring top. The imprints are crisp and easily read. There is however a hairline crack in the cap. It’s very fine and hard to see. With the band on the cap lip the crack is well contained and stable and very unlikely to grow anymore, but it is there. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a beauty. This is a very fine XXF (0.25mm) that writes beautifully smooth with an elegant, soft spring like feel. It’s just a joy to use. It also has some easy flex that goes up to BB (1.6mm). It has decent responsiveness as well. It’s a lovely little pen.

SIZE:  4 1/4″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XXF to BB (0.25mm-1.6mm)  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 72 – Super Flex

Waterman 12 Eye Dropper – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

The Waterman 72 is the rarer eye dropper cousin to the 52. They are basically a 52 made as an eye dropper. It is bigger than the 12 and has a threaded cap rather than the old slip cap. This 72 is in beautiful condition nearing mint condition. There is minimal fading to the BCHR. It is still very black and the chasing and imprints are good and crisp. There is the name “J.B. Robinson” inscribed in the side. The nickel clip is in great condition as well. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a very smooth writing F (0.5mm). This is a nice quality flex nib. It has a nice ease of flex going all the way up to 1.9mm with good responsiveness. It’s really approaching wet noodle status. Plus, it’s an eye dropper, so plenty of ink capacity. A great pen for the user and collector alike.

SIZE:  5 1/8″ Capped

Waterman Starlet – Good/Medium Flex (SOLD)

Waterman Starlet – Good/Medium Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a nice Waterman Starlet in grey marble celluloid. It’s in very good condition. The only real blemish that I see is a mark on the threads. At first I though it was a little piece of hardened shellac, but it appears to be a spot where the celluloid got too warm and melted a tiny bit. The pen still threads a quarter turn without issue, and it is quite small. The gold filled trim looks very nice with no signs of brassing. The 14kt. Waterman #2A is a lovely writing wet F (0.4mm). It has some flex. The range isn’t huge only going to 1.5mm and ease of flex is between my Medium and Good flex grade. It has decent responsiveness. These pens are much prettier in person.

SIZE:  4 3/8″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, F to BBB (0.4mm-1.5mm) GOOD/MEDIUM FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 52 V Red Ripple – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 52 V Red Ripple – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

This Waterman 52V Red Ripple is in nice condition. The hard rubber has faded some. A little more on the cap than the body. But it still looks pretty good. The imprints are partly faded. The gold filled band has a little brassing along the top edge. The clip and lever still look great. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a wet and smooth writing F. It’s a great vintage writer and it has some really nice flex. The range of flex is excellent going from F to BBB (0.4mm-1.8mm), and it comes very easily. This isn’t a wet noodle, but it is nearing that range. The flow is great keeping up well with the flexing nib. Overall this is a great, vintage Waterman with a top quality flex nib.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline Gold-Filled – Super Flex (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline Gold-Filled – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a Skyline that was made to have a completely gold-filled body. There are almost no signs of brassing on this pen. There is a little plate loss on the middle of the lever from years of posting the pen. The pen has an inscription on the lip of the cap that reads “Ernest F. Gaul.” The pen does have two small dings. The first is very small, perhaps 2mm or so, in the cap. It’s more like a scratch. The second is a bit larger on the barrel. Most of the pen is ding free, however. The Eversahrp 14kt. nib is a beauty. It’s a wet writing, smooth F. And it has great flex going pretty easily up to BBB (1.8mm). Plus, it has some really nice responsiveness. Fantastic Skyline that isn’t easy to find.

Conklin Crescent 20 – Super Flex (SOLD)

Conklin Crescent 20 – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is the classic Conklin Crescent in size 20. The black hard rubber has faded a little to a slightly brownish black. The chasing is pretty good. A little worn in places. There is an area on the cap where it’s lost it’s texture, but the rest of the pen looks and feels good. Crescent filler is great condition. The trim looks good with no brassing. The imprints are mostly good and readable with just a spot here and there where it has faded some. The 14kt. Cokline Toledo #2 is a wet writing F that is smooth and a good writing vintage nib. It has some great flex that comes with ease and ranges all the way to 1.7mm. It also has some very nice responsiveness. It’s overall a superb pen.
