Wirt Red Mottled Eyedropper – Wet Noodle

IMG_9400

Wirt Red Mottled Eyedropper – WET NOODLE  (See Price Here)

Here is a gorgeous near mint condition Paul E. Wirt red mottled eyedropper pen. The pen looks and feels brand new. The only flaw in appearance is that the section where the slip cap rubs (as it should to keep the friction holding the cap on) is a bit less polished looking. But honestly if the rest of the pen didn’t look so good, it would just look normal. Just fantastic condition. Imprints are good and crisp. The section is ribbed for a good grip. The pen was made sometime in the early 1900s (it has a pat. date of 1904). Unfortunately, the pen does not have the famous unvented Wirt nib. Rather, it has a lovely Warranted 14kt. nib that writes as a smooth XXF with a very easy flex up to 1.7mm. If you want monster flex, this isn’t your pen. But if you want nice, easy flex capable of flex even on a very small detailed level, this is a great pen for it. It’s a fantastic piece of history in great condition. (See Price Here)

IMG_9379

Wahl-Eversharp Ring top – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a pretty little Wahl-Eversharp ring top in a beautiful emerald green pattern. The body is in very good condition with only a little bit of discoloring on the some of the cap and the part of barrel near the section. The black hard rubber ends are still shiny and black. The gold filled trim is show no signs of brassing. Imprint on the cap is still readable. The pen comes equipped with a 14kt. Eversharp “Signature” nib that writes as a smooth and soft XF (0.3mm). The nib does have a tiny “wave” towards the tip. It does not affect the writing, but you can see it if you look closely. It has easy flex that goes up to 1.7mm, and is quite responsive. A great little portable pen.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline (Demi) – Super Flex! (SOLD)

IMG_9343

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline (Demi) – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a beautiful Wahl Eversharp Skyline in demi size with burgundy body and gold filled cap. This cap does not have the traditional horizontal pin stripe pattern, but the much more uncommon chevron pattern. There are no dings on the cap or brassing. There is just a little brassing on the top of the clip. There are light scratches throughout the pen, but nothing serious. Nothing you would even see without a close inspection. The initials L.A.S. are engraved on the bottom of the cap. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a smooth and very wet writing F (0.5mm). The tip of the nib is slightly separated, but it does not affect the performance of the nib except to make it a bit wetter. The flex on this pen comes quite easily and goes all the way up to BBB (2.0mm). It has decent responsiveness. An uncommon and beautiful Skyline.

SIZE:  4 3/4″ Capped

NIB: Eversharp 14kt., F to BBB (0.4mm-2.0mm) SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Mabie Todd Swallow – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_9361

Mabie Todd Swallow – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a nice Mabie Todd Swallow in black and green celluloid. The body has discolored some as is common to this type of material. There are also bite marks on the top of the cap and end of the barrel. The gold filled trim is in excellent condition with no signs of brassing. The imprints are also very crisp. The 14kt. Mabie Todd #2 is an ultra buttery smooth writing F. Fantastic writing experience. The flex on the nib is soft and easy and goes up to 1.7mm. Responsiveness is decent but not extraordinary. I did have some railroading issues with some inks, but with wetter inks like this Sailor Souten it did quite well. Also if you turn your wrist a little while flexing it’s pretty unforgiving and will railroad. You have to use good form, which of course is best to do with any pen. A nice pen with a buttery nib and nice flex.

SIZE:  5 1/8″ Capped

NIB: Mabie Todd #2, F to BB (0.4mm-1.7mm)  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Conklin Glider – Semi-Flex (SOLD)

IMG_9389

Conklin Glider – Semi-Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a great example of the Conklin Glider from the 1930s. These pens were considered budget pens of the time, but were well made and quite durable. This body of this pen is in good condition. The celluloid is still quite attractive. The plating on the clip and lever is worn significantly and shows some pitting (see pics). The band shows only minor signs of brassing but does have some light scraping. The band is also loose and turns freely on the cap.  This pen is fitted with a Conklin Cushion Point 14k nib, which are considered to be good, high quality nibs. It also has some flex to it. A great, light vintage pen.

SIZE:  5 1/8″ Capped

NIB: Conklin Cushion Point 14kt., F to BB (0.4mm-1.3mm) SEMI-FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Unbranded Vintage Pen – Wet Noodle

Unbranded Vintage Pen with Gold-Filled Overlay – Wet Noodle (Near Mint Condition)

IMG_8818

Unbranded Vintage Pen with Gold Filled Overaly – Wet Noodle

Here is a well made unbranded vintage pen with a lovely gold-filled overlay. The pen is very similar in style to a Parker Lucky Curve button-filler. Not only is it also a button filler, but it has a very similar “Christmas tree” style feed. The pen is in near mint condition. The black hard rubber is shiny jet black with no signs of fading. The gold filled overlay has alternating sections of pinstripe and crosshatching. The pen has the look and feel of quality pens of its day. The Warranted 14kt. nib is a soft, paintbrush like wet noodle. It is difficult to judge the “normal” writing line width as the least pressure causes line variation, but I have graded it about a 0.3mm or XF. The nib is quite snappy and responsive for how soft it is allowing for not only ease of flex but also crisp quality of flex. Not all the great pens of the past were by the big names. Here is a prime example. ( See Price Here)

SIZE:  4 5/8″ Capped

NIB: Warranted 14kt., XF to BBB (0.3mm-2.0mm),  WET NOODLE (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Parker Rare “Jointless” Eyedropper – Wet Noodle

IMG_9199

Parker “Jointless” Eyedropper  – Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Here is a rare jointless Parker eyedropper. The Jointless was an attempt to make an eyedropper that could not leak from any joint. The feed and nib are harnessed in a collar that pulls out from the barrel (no threads). You simply grab the feed and nib (with a cloth, I’d recommend) and pull it out. It removes quite easily. These pens began to be manufactured in 1899, so this was likely made in the first few years of the 1900s. The pen is in overall good condition. The body is smooth BHR (no original chasing) that is still quite black on the body, but has faded to a brown on top of the cap. Imprints are still crisp with a pat. date of 1894. The pen has an accommodation clip from 1910. It looks to be nickel plated and has some wear, but it still looks pretty good. Unfortunately, the original Lucky Curve nib was badly damaged when I found this pen. I have replaced it with a 14kt. Moore nib, and it’s a great nib. It writes nicely as an XF, but it has some great flex on it. Ease of flex is not quite paintbrush status, but it is still very easy. It flexes from XF to BBB (1.8mm), and it is quite responsive and the flow keeps up very well. A great and rare pen to do some high quality flex writing.  (See Price Here)

SIZE: 5 3/4″ Capped

NIB: Moore #2., XF to BBB (0.3mm-1.8mm),  WET NOODLE (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Eyedropper

CONDITION: Good

Restration Work:

  • Flushed and cleaned pen
  • Nib and feed ultra sonically cleaned
  • Installed new Moore Nib
  • Polished clip
  • Aligned nib and feed for optimal flow
  • Tuned nib to write smoothly

Wahl-Eversharp Oversize w/ Factory “Oblique” – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_9217

Wahl-Eversharp Oversize w/ Factory “Oblique” – Super Flex   (On Ebay)

Here is a large, oversize Wahl-Eversharp Gold Seal flat top pen. The pen is similar in size to a Pelikan M800, though slightly thicker and a shade shorter. The pen is made of a lovely green with gold/ bronze dust pattern. However, the pen has some flaws. The flip was broken off at some point, and some user of this pen had a bad habit of biting it as the top of the cap and back of the barrel both have teeth marks. There is a bigger chunk out of the back of the black end of the barrel. Gold bands are in good shape (save for the bite marks). The lever does have some brassing. The threads of the pen hold well after a quarter turn, but they feel just a little off. However, the real star of this pen is the huge factory “Oblique” italic nib. It writes (depending on the angle you hold it) at about a 0.6mm broad line that is quite crisp and it flexes all the way up to 2.3mm. This nib is hard to come by and has tremendous value by itself. An oblique italic nib with flex gives this pen some real potential.

SIZE:  5 3/8″ Capped

NIB: Wahl-Eversharp “Oblique”, Med Italic -BBB (o.6mm-2.3mm), SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Lever

  • Pen thoroughly cleaned & flushed
  • Nib polished and tuned to write smoothly
  • Nib and feed ultrasonically cleaned and adjusted for optimal flow

Parker Vacumatic Double Jewelled Junior (Standard Size) (SOLD)

IMG_9274

Parker Vacumatic Double Jewelled Junior (Standard Size)  (On Ebay)

Here is a Parker Vac Junior in a Standard size. It was probably made in the mid to late 30s. It has lockdown filler, silver/ black flake pattern celluloid, and silver trim. It’s in excellent condition. Maybe some light scratching most of which has buffed right out. Barrel transparency is still excellent. It has an orangish hue (though it looks more orange in the pics because the ink loaded in the pen is orange as well). Trim has minor wear but looks great. Imprints are crisp. Even the lockdown filler looks great. It has a butter smooth F nib that writes a nice 0.4mm wet line. Great writer. The nib also has a slight amount of flex. Great vintage pen.

SIZE:  4 7/8″ Capped

NIB: Parker 14kt. “Arrow nib F  (0.4mm)

Aikin Lambert “Capitol Cabinet” – Medium Flex (SOLD)

IMG_9233

Aikin Lambert “Capitol Cabinet” – Medium Flex (On Ebay)

Aikin Lambert was a quality pen maker that was eventually bought out by Waterman. This “Capitol Cabinet” is very close in design to the Waterman 52. The BCHR has faded to a dark brown on the body and a lighter brown on the cap. The pen was originally clipless and has a Mercantile accommodation clip. The clip has significant plate loss with brass underneath. The lever on these pens are very thin. This one has wear to the nickel plating, but it’s still there. Imprints are a little worn, but still easily readable. The section also has some bite marks (see pic). The 14kt ALCO (Aikin Lambert Co.) nib is an butter smooth writing F. It does have a decent flex range going all the way to 1.7mm. However, it’s a little stiff are really lacks the responsiveness of higher grade flex nibs. Still a good vintage pen with some flex.

SIZE:  4 1/4″ Capped

NIB: ALCO 14kt., F-BB (0.4mm-1.7mm)  MEDIUM FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Lever

  • Pen thoroughly cleaned & flushed
  • Trim polished up
  • Nib polished and tuned to write smoothly
