Eversharp “64” – 14kt. Solid Gold Cap and Trim (SOLD)

IMG_3338

Eversharp “64” 14kt. Solid Gold Cap and Trim  (On Ebay)

Here is an upscale Eversharp 5th Ave. that was nicknamed the “64” because it was $64 for the pen and pencil set combo. The pen went for $40 alone in the 40’s! And the reason, of course, is that the cap and trim are all 14kt. solid gold. This, I believe, is the the ladies size. It is in quite good condition. Only one scratch that is really noticeable, and it’s not very bad. It does have initials E.E.L. engraved into it. The nice thing about these is unlike the Skylines, the section screws into the barrel making it much more manageable to clean, restore, etc. The nib is a nice wet medium and is hooded in imitation of the Parker 51s. The cap on these all were push ons like the 51s as well. A beautiful pen in burgundy and solid gold. The gold on this alone is worth over $150 in scrap.

Wahl-Eversharp Ring Top “Flexible” nib – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_3329

Wahl-Eversharp Ring top – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is a great example of some of Wahl-Eversharp’s celluloid ring tops. The pen is in very good condition. There some brassing on the ring top, but the lever and gold band are in good shape. There is a red spot on the celluloid. Not sure what exactly its from because it doesn’t appear to be on the surface and there are not scratches there. The nib is a Wahl-Eversharp #2 “Flexible,” and it is indeed that. It has some really good responsiveness as you can see. And it writes great as a normal, everyday writer as well. This pen will not disappoint.

Waterman 12 – Super Flex! (SOLD)

IMG_3302

Waterman 12 Eye Dropper

This pen is around a 100 years old and still looks amazing. There is no browning. Just a hint of fading. Still very black. The chasing is crisp. The imprints look new, and the “12” is still red. The Waterman #2 nib has some nice flex from a F (0.4mm) to BBB (1.8mm) on Rhodia. The nib has just a bit of a twist, which affects two things. It’s not quite as smooth writing normally as most #2’s, and it requires you to keep good form when flexing. If you roll your hand a lot, then it will start to railroad. And that is NOT because it is running dry. This is a very wet pen, and you’ll never have a problem with the ink flow not keeping up. Overall a great pen.

SIZE:  5 1/8″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XF to BBB,  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Eye-Dropper

Waterman 52 1/2 – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_3294

Waterma 52 1/2 V- Super Flex   (On Ebay)

This Waterman 52 1/2 has been stunningly preserved. This looks to have been someone’s fairly meticulous restoration project. It is a glossy jet black. Just the smallest bit of fading on the cap. The gold bands are in excellent condition with no brassing. Lever is also good. The chasing is good. The imprints are very crisp. There is a small crack at the bottom of the cap (See pics). Someone even went to the trouble of installing a thin gold ring on the cap (not original I believe) to keep the crack from spreading and to add some style. The nib writes a nice XF line and flexes very easily up to BB (1.4mm). The nib is quite responsive as well making smaller, more detailed flex work easier. This is a fine edition to any collection.

SIZE:  5 1/8″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XF to BB (0.3mm-1.4mm)  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Wahl Gold Filled (4 5/8″) – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_3319

Wahl Gold Filled (4 5/8″) – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Another beautiful Wahl, but it does have some imperfections. There is a ring around the cap where the medal underneath bubbled (see the pics). There is also dent in the barrel. Apart from those two things, the pen is in very good condition. The #4 Wahl nib has some great line variation going from 0.4mm all the way up to 2.0mm! Unlike some Wahls I have come across, the feed is plenty wet when flexing. It has no problem at all keeping up. The nib writes a very nice, soft, smooth fine line when used normally. Great pen for flexing, and just as great for every day writing.

SIZE:  4 5/8″ Capped

NIB: Wahl #4, F to BBB (0.4mm-2.0mm) SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Wahl Gold Filled (4 5/8″) – Super Flex SOLD

 IMG_3211

Wahl Gold Filled (4 5/8″) – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a gold filled Wahl with a #4 Wahl nib. The pen is in very good condition. Little scratching or wear. Some on the ends of the barrel, but not as much as is normall. There is just one little ding on the top of the cap. The nib on this pen is incredible. It’s an XF italic nib. It is only 0.4mm (what many call a Fine) at it’s broadest, but still manages to be an italic. And it has some really great flex with nice line variation. It’s a Super flex that likes wet ink best. The fact that the italic is so fine does require a bit of precision when flexing to make sure you keep the nib at the correct angle. It’s not super picky, but you do have to take care. And it also makes the nib more sensitive to oils on the paper. Still an awesome nib that’s hard to part with.

SIZE:  4 5/8″ Capped

NIB: Wahl #2, XF Italic to BBB (0.4mm-1.8mm) GOOD FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman Stalwart – SUPER FLEX SOLD

IMG_3244

Waterman Stalwart – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is a gorgeous silver celluloid Waterman Stalwart dating from the 1940s. The gold-filled trim on this pen are in very good condition with only some wear on the top of the clip. The section appears to have been shellacked to the barrel by a previous restorer. But filling system seemed in perfect order, so I left as is. The nib is soft, smooth and elegant to write with. The flex is good with line variation going from 0.5mm-1.6mm. There’s not much to say other than that this is a beautiful and very nice writing pen.

Parker Duofold Deluxe SOLD

IMG_3222

Parker Duofold Deluxe  – (On Ebay)

Here is one of the big Parker Duofolds. If you’ve never seen these, they are something to behold. The nib is absolutely massive. It is unfortunately missing two of the three gold bands around the cap. It has also has some of the typical discoloration between the cap and barrel. There is some brassing on the clip. The feed is the Christmas tree feed that followed the Lucky Curve. The nib is a very smooth and wet Medium. If you like big pens, here’s a chance to get one pretty reasonably.

Waterman 32V – Good Flex SOLD

IMG_3256

Waterma 32 – Good Flex – (On Ebay)

A nice small, pocket pen. The italic nib is quite nice and rather smooth. The line variation is not immense. Many would call this “semi-flex.” But what flex it has comes pretty easily and has a nice responsiveness. These pens are meant to be posted and feel like a normal size when they are. The black celluloid is pretty sturdy and in good condition with some light scratching from use. The clip is in very good condition. The lever has some wear as you can see. Also the bottom part of the lever had to be attached to the barrel with an adhesive. It will most likely hold for the life of the pen. So a nice, portable italic nib pen with some flex.

Waterman 52 – Good Flex SOLD

IMG_3246

Waterma 52 – Good Flex – (On Ebay)

Now here is a pen that would make Indiana Jones proud. Very rustic. Hard rubber has browned some. It comes with an after market clip. Pen clips were not standard issue on these old pens, and many people would later buy a clip to attach. The lever has some wear, and it sticks out just a bit from the barrel. There are three small cracks around the bottom of the cap (see pics). The nib is gloriously smooth, even for a Waterman. The flex is pretty good, but it is very wet when flexing. It makes controlling the nib a bit harder (thus the “good flex” grade rather than “super flex”), but it also really brings out the shading of the ink. A very nice daily writer.
