Waterman 552 1/2 – Good Flex   (On Ebay)

Here is a beautiful Waterman 552 1/2. This is not a vest size (52 1/2 V) but full length. In the Waterman numbering system the first 5 stands for the gold filled overlay. The second 5 means lever filler, the 2 refers to the nib size, and the “1/2” means the thinner profile than the 52. The pen is gorgeous. The overlay is smooth (no pattern) with slight scratching from typical wear; however, there is no brassing that I can see (the spot on the clip was tarnish that has since been removed). There are a couple of light dings on the top of the cap, and a place around the lever where the overlay was bent up a little. The pen has some light browning of the hard rubber, and the number imprint on the end of barrel is worn off. The nib is a very smooth XXF. It’s hard to believe an XXF could be that smooth. The flex is smooth and pretty easy. It’s just doesn’t quite have the quality of a super flex. Still a very classy, fairly uncommon, and beautiful pen.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline (Demi) – Good Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a Wahl-Eversharp Skyline Demi size in solid black with gold trim. The pen is in good condition. There is some light scratching throughout the pen, but I’ve buffed and polished a lot of it out. It appears that in screwing on the clip someone created a deeper scratch that rings around the cap (see pic). The gold trim is in pretty good condition. Just a bit of brassing on the lever and some on the thin band along the bottom of the cap. The rest of the trim looks great. The lever is a little loose but not a major issue. The nib is a typical Eversharp nib: a delightful XF (0.3mm) that is pretty wet and smooth. Great for normal writing. The flex comes pretty easy but doesn’t quite have the responsiveness of a super flex nib.

Parker Lady Duofold – Semi Flex  – (On Ebay)

This is a three banded Lady’s size Parker Lucky Curve Duofold in very good condition. There is some typical color change of the celluloid typical in these pens, and a bit of fading on the BHR end caps. The gold-filled trim is in quite good condition with just a bit of brassing on the ring top.  The original Parker Duofold XF nib is a semi flex with a nice sweet spot that is smooth with good flow. Not overly wet, but not dry either. Very solid, portable little pen in good condition.

Waterman 52V – SUPER FLEX (On Ebay)

This is a Waterman 52 Red Ripple in gold trim. The hard rubber is faded some, but not too bad. The imprints are good and crisp. The trim shows wear. There are a few spots on the clip with some plate loss (see pics), there is brassing on the lever and band. A few small scratches can also be seen on the pen. It is still a very nice looking vintage pen. The nib is not a Waterman Ideal #2, but don’t let that fool you. This is a fantastic, quality 14kt. nib that is at least as good as a Waterman. It is a nice, wet and glassy smooth XF/F nib with super flex ability. It flexes up to 1.8mm and has pretty good responsiveness.

Conklin Vest Pen – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is a nice little black hard rubber, Toledo made, Conklin vest size pen. I have no idea the model name of this pen. The hard rubber is still very black. The striped chasing is worn but can be seen. The Conklin imprint is also worn but readable. It has a rather newish “Bic” accommodation clip. The original ring top is now missing. There is some brassing on the band and lever. The nib is rare and terrific. It has not only the crescent air hole but also a crescent imprint on the nib. It has a sweet spot that allows for nice, smooth normal writing. But it also some pretty responsive flex that makes for some good, crisp flex writing. A great little pen.

Parker “D.Q.” Lucky Curve  – (On Ebay)

Here is a full-size Parker student version of the Jack Knife Safety Pen. These were produced in the mid-20s. The “D.Q.” stands for “Duofold Quality.” Parker renamed these a bit later to the “Black and Gold” pen. It is made of black hard rubber with a pin stripping. The BHR is very black on one side, but does have some fading (more to grey than brown) on the other side. The band appears to have be nickel and not gold-filled as the ring top is. The imprint is worn a bit but still readable. There is also a small crack running through the threads of the barrel. I couldn’t pick up in the pictures. The section actually threads into the barrel and someone probably overtightened it. It has no effect on the function of the pen, and is hardly noticeable. The nib is a replacement “Warrented 14K” nib, and it is a good one. It writes very smooth with some nice, fairly responsive flex.

Wahl Gold Filled (4 5/8″) – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Another beautiful gold-filled Wahl pen. This is not a ring top, but the larger 4 1/2″ model with clip. It does have some imperfections. There are a few dings on the back end of the barrel and some bite marks. There are also bite marks on the top of the cap. There is, however, little to no brassing on the pen that I can see. The pattern on the pen is still in overall very good condition. It has the initials “E.K.N.” engraved on the barrel. The nib is a smooth writing Fine that flexes up to 1.7mm. Ease of flex and responsiveness are good making this a nice a super flex nib. This is still a beautiful, durable pen with some great writing potential.

Waterman 52 – Good Flex  (On Ebay)

This is a Waterman 52 in decent condition. There is some browning of the hard rubber, but it’s still pretty dark. The chasing and imprints are worn but still have a little texture. Imprints are crisp. The lever looks brand new. It has a unique accommodation clip. It appears to have had a Waterman clip at one point, but was replaced by this clip. There is a small crack behind the clip where the original Waterman clip used to be. However, it is very difficult to see unless you remove the accommodation clip. The nib is nice and smooth with super flex ability.

Wahl-Eversharp Ring top – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is a great example of some of Wahl-Eversharp’s celluloid pen/ pencil combo. Both pen and pencil are  in very good condition. Some very slight brassing on the ring tops, but levers and gold band are in great shape. There is also some very slight discoloration of the celluloid as is typical for these pens. The only work I did on the pencil was to polish it up, so I don’t know if it works. The pen has part of a sticker still on the end of the barrel, and the combo will come in the original fairly broken down box. The pen’s nib is a fabulous Wahl-Eversharp #2 “Flexible” nib. It an top grade Super flex nib with superb responsiveness. Also a nice, smooth writer. This pen will not disappoint.

Conklin Endura – Semi Flex – (On Ebay)

This little pen is just gorgeous. The ruby marbled celluloid really pops. I believe it is a ladies size Conklin Symetrik, but it does not have “Symetrik” printed on the barrel. Patent date on clip is 1918 and on lever 1925. Both barrel and nib were made in Toledo, OH. The body is in excellent condition as is the trim. Little to no brassing that I can see. The nib is a great Super Flex borderline Wet Noodle. It does work best with thicker low surface tension inks like Pilot Iroshizuku (I’ll be sending a free Pilot Iro sample so you can get maximum flex from the get go). The nib does have a very small crack coming out of the breather hole on the right side of the crescent. The pen also writes great. A fantastic little pen.
