Waterman 5 “RED” Red Ripple – Good / Super Flex (On Ebay)
Here is a beautiful Waterman 5 Red Ripples with “RED” nib and “RED”. The 5’s of this period are about the same size as a 52. Slightly shorter with a slight wider barrel. The red ripple body is a little faded, though still pretty good color. The end of the barrel where the cap has been posted actually still has the original color. The gold-filled trim is still in excellent condition with no brasssing. The “RED” ring on the cap looks to be a replacement as the original would be darkened and faded. The #5 Waterman “RED” nib is a lovely writing F. It’s wet but not overly so and a bit stubbish. It’s smooth with just a hint of feedback. The flex is nice though most would expect a bit more out of “RED” nib. Despite popular belief the colored coded nibs are hardly uniform. The flex range goes from F – BBB (0.4mm — 1.6mm). Flow is good, ease of flex is a bit on the stiffer side of “super flex.” Still plenty good enough to do some nice work. Overall, it’s still one of the great iconic Waterman pens.
