Wahl BCHR Ring Top – Super Flex
Here is an early Wahl ring top in BCHR. It’s a model #62. The hard rubber is mostly a dark brown, thought there are a couple of spots on the barrel that have lightened a bit more. The chasing overall is worn some, but retains some texture. The imprints are a little worn but easily readable. The gold-filled ring top cap and lever have some light surface scratching from normal use, but nothing significant and no brassing. The 14kt. Wahl #2 nib is a gem. It’s decently wet and quite smooth while also being an XXF. When writing it feels more like a XF but in flexing it feels more like an XXF. Depending on the ink it ranges from 0.2mm to 0.25mm without flexing. It has a pretty good range in flex with swells up to BB (1.6mm). It flexes fairly easily and has some great responsiveness to it. Ink flow keeps up pretty well, but it is a little fussy about nib angle. If you start putting pressure on one side of the tines more than the other, you can get some railroading. Overall, a nice little vintage flex pen.
