Conklin Crescent Gold Filigree Ring Top – Wet Noodle

Conklin Crescent Gold Filigree Ring Top – Wet Noodle  – (On Ebay)

Here is a gorgeous Conklin Crescent with a gold-filled filigree overlay in a vest pen / ring top size. In size this is about half way between a Waterman 52 1/2V and a Waterman 52V. The body is in fantastic condition with little to no signs of wear. Certainly no brassing. No fading to the hard rubber. Has the initials “MC” on the cap. The body is really in superb condition. The 14kt. Made in Toledo Conklin #2 is a very wet writing F that like a lot of Conklin’s of this era has a bit of a stub-like character to it. There is some kind of tarnish on the gold nib that I can’t seem to polish off. It takes the right light to see it, but there is a slight color variation on a couple of places on the nib. Writing for this nib is lovely, wet, and smooth. It also has wonderful flex that I’m grading as a low grade wet noodle. This isn’t paintbrush soft, but flex comes very easy. It has a nice range going up to a large BBB (1.8mm). Responsiveness is pretty decent as well. Overall, a gorgeous Conklin that is both a beautiful writer and is capable of lovely flex work.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a nice Skyline in the army brown body with a gold-filled cap.The body has only surface marks from normal use for the most part. There are some small deeper scratches on the derby (see pics). There are just a few tiny marks on the gold-filled cap sleeve but nothing major or obvious. There is no brassing on it or the clip. There is a little bit of plate loss on the crown of the lever from the cap being posted. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a wonderful Fine. It writes a lovely wet and smooth line that just feels like a what a nib should fee like. The flex on this is also wonderful going easily to BBB (1.7mm) with plenty of ink flow to keep up. The responsiveness is also really solid. Overall, a superb Skyline.

Waterman 52 1/2 V – Super Flex

Waterman 52 1/2 V – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

This Waterman 52 1/2V has some fading in the BCHR. The chasing still looks pretty good with decent texture but it has faded to a dark brown. The imprints look good. The nickel trim is in good condition with no brassing. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a wet writing F (0.4mm) with just a hint of feedback, though it’s still quite smooth. It has some really nice flex going easily up to BBB (1.6mm). The nib does have two very small cracks coming out of each of the breather hole. If you take good care of this nib and don’t over flex, the cracks should not grow. I’ve personally had a wet noodle nib with two cracks in the same places for over 6 years that I use everyday, and there has been no growth in them. If you are looking for a nice vintage flex nib for an affordable price, here is your chance.
