Waterman 52 1/2V – GOOD FLEX (SOLD)

Waterman 52 1/2V  – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

Here is a smooth black hard rubber (no original chasing) Waterman 52 1/2 V. The hard rubber has faded to a dark brown color. The gold filled trim is very good condition with no signs of brassing. The smaller “Waterman” imprint towards the back of the barrel is faded somewhat but readable. All other imprints are still very crisp. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a lovely writing XF (0.3mm) that is smooth and wet. The nib has decent flex going from 0.3mm to 1.7mm, but is a bit too stiff to be called a “super flex” in my opinion.

Wahl BCHR Ring Top – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Wahl BCHR Ring Top – Wet Noodle – (On Ebay)

Here is a Wahl vest pen in BCHR. The hard rubber is still in great condition. It is still very black with clear chasing still present. The side imprint is a little worn but still mostly readable. The gold filled trim is in pretty good condition. No real brassing that I could find. The band on the cap does have a couple of small scratches next to each other (see pic). The original nib on this pen was lost. I have replaced it with a Warranted 14kt. #3 “wet noodle” nib. The nib writes normally as a juicy, soft, and smooth F (0.4mm) but flexes with ease up to 2.0mm (BBB). It’s not quite a paintbrush, but it’s getting pretty close to that soft. The tipping on the nib is worn, but there is still some present. A very nice Wahl in good condition with a nice, juicy noodle nib.

SIZE:  4 1/4″ Capped

Conklin Student Special – Good Flex (SOLD)

Conklin Student Special – Medium Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a Conklin “Student Special” BCHR ring top vest pen. These were designed as a mixture of quality and affordability by Conklin. The pen has faded to a dark, grayish brown. The chasing is still quite good but the imprint is worn in places. It is still mostly readable. Gold-filled trim is in good condition with no brassing. The original 14kt. Conklin “SS” (Student Special) nib is a smooth writing XF with good flow. It has a good flex range going up to 1.6mm as well as good responsiveness. It is still a bit too stiff to be called a super flex, but it is a nice flex nib nevertheless.

SIZE:  4 1/4″ Capped

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a black standard size Skyline with a gold-filled cap. There is some very light scratching on the body of the pen as is typical of these Skylines, but it is all very minor. The gold filled trim is in good condition with no brassing. There is one tiny ding in the side of cap and one tiny one on the lip of the cap. The clip is also a bit looser than typical of Skylines though the dome is screwed on tight. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a fabulous, juicy F (0.5mm) that writes smooth and wet. It’s really a fantastic for normal writing. It also has some outstanding flex going easily from 0.5mm to 2.0mm plus (BBB). It is also pretty responsive for how wet the nib is. Overall, a nice Skyline with a really nice nib.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a standard size Skyline in brown with gold filled trim. The pen is in very good condition. There is just some very light scratching on the body. The gold filled trim looks excellent with little wear and no plate loss. There is one tiny little ding in the cap that you can only see by catching it right in the light. It does have the personalization “E.A.L.” on the barrel. The best part of this pen is that it sports a fantastic 14kt. Eversharp nib that writes as a juicy and smooth F/M (0.5mm). It flexes with ease up to 2.0mm! The ink just pours out of this feed when the tines are opened open but despite that the nib still has great responsiveness. A special Skyline.

Waterman 12 PSF – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

Waterman 12 – SUPER FLEX  (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 12 PSF, which is the immediate predecessor to the 52. It’s basically just the 52 before Waterman changed it’s numbering system. The BCHR has faded some to a dark brown and the chasing is worn though visible. It actually still has some texture on the cap. The cap is missing the original clip. Imprints on the side and end of barrel are both very easily readable and the original red paint is in the end imprint. The nickel lever is worn some. No brassing is apparent but part of the “IDEAL” imprint is worn down. The threads on this 12 PSF are raised from the barrel rather than flush as normal to these models (Waterman tested several variations of the threads). The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a smooth writing F (0.4mm) with moderate wetness. It has some good flex going up to 1.7mm. The ease of flex is on the stiff side and I almost classified this as “good flex.” However, the responsiveness is superb so I graded it “super flex.”

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, F to BB (0.4mm-1.7mm),  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 3 – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

Waterman 3 – SUPER FLEX   (On Ebay)

This is a gorgeous Waterman 3 gray marble celluloid with flecks of red. The pen is in very good condition with just some light scratching throughout that you only can see with detail examination. The chrome plated trim looks very good, but does have a little bit of wear on the lever and just a whisper on the clip. Imprints are all great. The Waterman #2 14kt. nib is a superb, springy, soft and wet writing XF. It flexes quite easily up to 1.7mm. The feed is plenty wet to keep up, and it has decent responsiveness. A great pen in great condition.

Moore L-72 Ring Top – Wet Noodle

Moore L-72 Ring Top – Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Here is a vintage Moore L-72 ring top. The body has some discoloration: parts that should be a light green have turned brownish. There is light scratching throughout the pen and some light bite marks on the end of the barrel. It’s mostly not very obvious unless you are looking carefully at the pen. The lever and ring top have little to no brassing. The lever is loose but works well. When I found this pen it never had the original lever bar but only a piece of sheet metal for a j-bar. I replaced it with a brand new j bar that makes filling work flawlessly. The hard rubber section has some marks around the end of it likely were someone was trying to pull out the section from the barrel. The beauty of this pen is the 14kt. Moore nib. It’s a fabulously responsive nib that flexes with ease. It’s not a paintbrush, but it takes quite little effort and snaps back about as good as you can expect of fountain pen nib to do. It is great for tiny, detail flexing as well as larger calligraphy work.  (See Price Here)

Parker Gold-Filled Lucky Curve – Super Flex (SOLD)

Parker Gold Filled Lucky Curve – Super Flex  – (On Ebay)

This is a gold filled Parker Lucky Curve vest pen. It is in quite good condition. The only real significant cosmetic flaws are two small dings on the barrel (see pics). There is no brassing that I could find. There is some light scratching on the body as is normal from typical use. The 14kt. #2 Lucky Curve nib does have the slightest little wrinkle in one of the tines, but it does not affect the performance of the nib. The pen writes as a smooth XF (0.3mm) that has a nice flex up to 1.7mm. The flex is pretty easy and quite responsive. A great example of Parker’s version of the gold-filled pen.

Mabie Todd Swan Ring Top – Good Flex (SOLD)

Mabie Todd Swan Ring Top – Good Flex (On Ebay)

This is a New York made Mabie Todd Swan mini ring top. This is the ultra portable version measuring only 3 3/8″ and about as thin as a #2 pencil. The pen is in very good condition with no dings and very little brassing. There is a slight bit of plate loss on the edges of the lever and two small spots on the section. There is an inscription on the barrel in a nice script that reads “J.R.B.” I think. The 14kt. Mabie Todd nib is a nice little XXF nib that writes quite smooth for how fine it is (0.2mm). It flexes quite easily up to 1.2mm, and if you stay within it’s range the flow keeps up well.

SIZE:  3 3/8″ Capped (not including the ring)
