Boyden & Smith Flat Top – Med/ Good Flex
Here is a full size vintage BCHR lever-filled flat top pen made by a company called Boyden and Smith. I have not heard of them and could not find any information on them. It’s bigger than a Waterman 52 measuring at over 5 5/8″. The hard rubber of this pen is in great condition with no fading and very crisp chasing. The imprint is also very good. The nickel plated lever is in good shape, but does have wear visible with magnification. The end of the barrel has thread to screw the cap on when posting, which is a nice feature. The 14kt. unbranded nib is a smooth and wet Medium. When you first start writing with the pen it is very wet, but the flow gradually recedes as you write. The nib flexes up to 1.9mm but lacks the responsiveness of better flex nibs. Still, not bad.
