Waterman 3 – Good Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 3 – GOOD FLEX   (On Ebay)

This Waterman 3 is in overall good condition. The chrome trim looks pretty good, but there is some minor to the clip and lever (see pics). There is a spot of discoloration on the back of the cap (see pic) where the dark green celluloid turned to a shade of lighter green and what looks like a crack that forms from crazing, but I have never seen crazing on these Waterman pens so I’m not sure what caused it. I doubt that the spot will spread. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a wet and smooth writing XF (0.3mm) and it flexes to a nice BB (1.5mm). This is a very nice flex nib that I graded “good flex” just because it is a touch firmer than a “super flex.” But it does not take a great amount of pressure to achieving some nice flexing and it has some good responsiveness.

Waterman 12 1/2 PSF – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterma 12 1/2 PSF – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 12 1/2 PSF in BCHR, which is the equivalent of the 52 1/2. It just predates the updated Waterman numbering system. The hard rubber has faded to a dark brown. The chasing is still visible on the pen, but it has worn smooth and much of it. The imprints are all still looking sharp, and the nickel lever looks great. Unfortunately, there is a crack in the lip of the cap (see pic). The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a smooth writing XF (0.3mm) that is plenty wet. It flexes up BB (1.6mm). The ease of flex on this nib is just on the firmer of “super flex,” but the responsiveness is in the “super flex” range, so its right on the border between the two.

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

Onoto Plunger Filler – Wet Noodle

Onoto Plunger Filler – Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Here is a Thomas De La Rue “Onoto” plunger filler. Onoto/ T.D.L.R. is a British pen company that went very early to a plunging mechanism to fill their pens. This Onoto is BCHR pen with the the hard rubber faded to a dark brown. The chasing has been worn almost off, but the imprints are still very crisp. The plunging mechanism has been restored and works well. The 14kt. Onoto nib is covered by an over/ under feed. The nib is a beauty. It is a smooth writing F/XF that writes like a stub. When flexed ink gushes out of this pen, but when not flexed the flow is good but not copious. The flex has a large range going from 0.3mm to 1.9mm (XF-BBB) and is very soft and smooth. These Onotos have an unique attribute. When flexing the ink will eventually start running dry. Then you must unscrew the blind cap and the flow will return, and as I said it will be abundant.

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

NIB: 14kt. Onoto, F to BB (0.4mm-1.7mm)  WET NOODLE (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade Flex)

FILLING: Plunger Filler

  • Pen thoroughly cleaned & flushed

  • Nib and feed ultrasonically cleaned and adjusted for optimal flow

Moore Vest Pen – Wet Noodle

Moore Vest Pen – Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Here is a Moore BCHR vest pen with a gold-filled overlay. The pen is in pretty good condition. The hard rubber has faded some to a dark grayish brown/ black. There are also small bite marks on the top of the cap and end of the barrel. The overlay is in pretty good condition. There is some light scratching from use, but no brassing. The clip and lever are in like condition: some scratching but no plate loss or brassing. The overlay also has the initials I.N.S. engraved in the side. The 14kt. Moore nib on this pen is absolutely superb. It is a soft XXF (0.2mm) that writes quite smoothly for such a fine nib. It’s flex range tops out at about 1.6mm (BB), but the responsiveness on this pen is truly superb. It has a near dip nib responsive quality that is very rare and hard to come by. Even the slightest line variations allow for crisp flex writing. Perfect for calligraphic writing such as copperplate.

SIZE:  4 1/2″ Capped

Parker Vacumatic Major with Two Tone Nib (SOLD)

Parker Vacumatic Major with Two Tone Nib (On Ebay)

Here is a fine looking Vac with a single jewel in major size. It has the diamond clip, the rare two tone nib, and a plastic filler. There are some minor chew marks at the top of the cap, but it’s pretty clean otherwise. There is some wear on the sides of the clip but otherwise the gold-filled trim looks good. Imprint is good and barrel clarity is decent though not outstanding. The 14kt. two-tone Parker nib is a wet writing XF that is beautifully smooth. The pen is a real pleasure to use in my opinion.

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

NIB: Parker Vac, Two-tone, XF (0.3mm),  GOOD FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Sheaffer Gold Filled Ring Top – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Sheaffer Gold Filled Ring Top – Wet Noodle (On Ebay)

This Sheaffer gold filled ring top does not have any brassing that I can see. It does, however, have quite a few very small dings throughout, especially on the tap of the cap probably from biting it. There is also a larger ding next to the lever. The pen has no personalization on it. This pen lost its original Sheaffer nib, but in it’s place is a wet writing 14kt. Warranted F (0.5mm) that has wet noodle softness to it. It’s not quite a paintbrush soft, but it is very close and flexes up to 1.8mm. I also replaced the original Sheaffer feed simply because it, along with all the old Sheaffer feeds I’ve ever used, just cannot keep up with any kind of flex writing. If you are looking for a wet noodle nib at an affordable price, this is your chance.

SIZE:  4″ Capped

NIB: 14kt. Warrented, F to BBB (0.5mm-1.8mm)  WET NOODLE (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Aikin Lambert “Capital” BCHR Eyedropper – Super Flex (SOLD)

Aikin Lambert “Capital” BCHR Eyedropper – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is an Aikin Lambert eyedropper in BCHR that is very similar to a Waterman 12. The pen is in great condition. There is some fading of the barrel to a dark grayish black, but the cap is still quite black. The chasing is all very nice and crisp as are the imprints. There is very little wear to the pen, nor are there really any marks of abuse. The originally 14kt. ALCO (Aikin Lambert Company) nib is a smooth and wet writing F (0.4mm). It is wet but not gushing like some eyedroppers. The nib has an easy flex to it that goes up to 1.7mm (BB). This is a very nice Aikin Lambert eyedropper in fantastic condition especially considering it is or very near a 100 years old.

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

Moore L-72 Ring Top – Good/Super Flex (SOLD)

Moore L-72 Ring Top – Good Flex

This is a version of the Moore L-72. it comes in a green and black marbled celluloid. The green part has faded in spots to a brownish color. There is some light scratching throughout the pen from use, but nothing significant. There are some light bite marks on the end of the barrel. The imprint is still quite crisp, and the gold-filled trim looks great with no brassing. The pressure bar on this Moore was missing, so I have replaced it with a new J bar. The lever is a bit loose as is common in my experience with these Moore lever-fillers. The 14kt. Moore nib is a smooth and wet XF (0.3mm) that flexes up to 1.7mm. The flex on this pen is too stiff to be classified as a super flex, but it is more responsive than usual for a “good flex” grade. It’s a great writing pen with a nice flex ability.

SIZE:  4 1/4″ Capped

NIB: 14kt. Moore, XF to BB (0.3mm-1.7mm),  GOOD FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 52 Red Mottled – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 52 Red Mottled – Super Flex (On Ebay)

This is a superb Waterman 52 in red mottled hard rubber. The wood grain hard rubber pattern is still very nice with very little fading. In fact, it looks almost as nice as when new. It still even has some good shine to it. Imprints are all very nice and crisp. The gold filled trim is in good condition. There is a little bit of wear on the very edges of the clip and the edges of the lever box; otherwise, it looks beautiful. I grade the pen Near Mint if wasn’t for this little bit of wear. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a special one. This is a wet and smooth writing XF (0.3mm) that really borders on being a wet noodle. The flex is very easy and goes from XF – BB (0.3mm to 1.7mm). It’s the responsiveness that really sets this nib apart. It’s more responsive than a good many wet noodles. It’s the perfect nib for calligraphic writing. This is just a superb example of what a Waterman pen can be at it’s best.

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

Wahl Ring Top Red Hard Rubber – Good Flex (SOLD)

Wahl Ring Top Red Hard Rubber  (On Ebay)

Here is a Wahl vest pen with ring top in red hard rubber. The pen is in good condition overall. The hard rubber still has some of the original chasing, but it is worn some. Original imprint at the top of the cap is worn as well. The color of the pen is still pretty good. There is a tiny crack going from the lever box to the lever pin hole, but everything appears to be stable. All the gold trim looks to be in great condition with no brassing. The pen no longer has the original Wahl nib. Instead, it has a 14kt. Warranted nib that is in excellent condition with great tipping. The nib writes as a wet and smooth F (0.4mm). Very good for normal writing. It also has some good flex going up to 1.5mm. It’s a little stiff and lacking in responsiveness to to be graded higher, but still a great nib.
