Waterman 0552 – Super Flex

Waterman 0552 – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

Here is the iconic Waterman 52 in a gold-filled overlay (thus the “05” prefix). This gold-filled overlay does show some use. Nothing major, just little stuff. There are some small dings on the top lip of the cap, which is pretty common, and some very tiny ones here and there. There is also quite a bit of light scratching throughout the pen. To me it looks well cared for but pretty heavily used. There is some brassing on the lower part of the cap and top of the lever. If you are looking for a collector’s item, then I’d say pass. If you are looking for a well-fortified 52 ready for every day use, then it’s perfect. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a wet F (0.4mm) that flexes nicely up to BBB+ (1.8mm). Normal writing is very smooth with some nice character. Flex is plenty wet, comes pretty easy, and is pretty responsive. It’s a great all-around nib ready for just about any writing task.

Wahl Lapis Blue Gold Seal with “Signature” Nib – Good Flex

Wahl Lapis Blue Gold Seal with “Signature” Nib – Good Flex  (On Ebay)

Another Wahl Gold Seal pen in the stunning Lapis Lazuli blue. It’s a vest pen, so closer in size the Waterman 52V. Gold-filled trim is excellent overall. There is some brassing on the top of the cap, but that is about all. The body is in pretty great condition and still has fantastic color. There does appear to be a very small repair on the threads. You probably won’t even notice it, and I’m not entirely sure why the repair was needed, but it looks pretty good and functions normally. The 14kt Wahl-Eversharp “Signature” nib is ultra Fine (XXF) and decently smooth for how fine it is. The flex comes a bit stiffly and ranges up to 1.4mm (BB), which is still quite good for such a fine nib. Responsiveness is of course pretty good due to the nib’s fineness. Another beautiful, well-equipped Wahl.

Wahl Lapis Blue Ring Top / “Flexible” Nib – Super Flex / Wet Noodle

Wahl Lapis Blue Ring Top / “Flexible” Nib – Super Flex / Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Here is a beautiful Wahl ring top in the stunning Lapis Lazuli blue. The pen is in great overall condition. The lapis blue is still very nice with little to no fading, and the black on the ends still looks new.  There are some very light surface wear that you see with normal use, but you won’t notice it unless you look very close. The gold-filled trim is also in nice condition. There is only some very, very minor brassing on the edges of the lever. The 14kt. Eversharp “Flexible” #2 nib is a lovely soft nib that writes around a 0.25mm line, so between an XXF and an XF. The fine line makes flex work even more beautiful. Ease of flex is right in between “Super Flex” and “Wet Noodle,” so high end “Super Flex” or low end “Wet Noodle.” Range of flex goes from 0.25mm to 1.7mm, so there’s a lot of line to work with. Overall, a stunning Wahl Ring Top with top notch flex.

Waterman Stalwart – Good Flex

Waterman Stalwart – Good Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is the Waterman Stalwart in a grey pearl celluloid body. I really enjoy the depth of these pearl grey bodies with gold accents. There is only light surface scratching on the body. The gold-filled trim looks great with only some brassing on the clip’s rivet on top of the cap. There is also some minor brassing on the back edge of the clip if you happen to look back there. The Waterman #2 14kt. Nib is a beautiful writing, soft and wet XF. The flex on this is a bit too stiff to grade as “super flex,” but that doesn’t mean you can’t do some nice work with it. Better than most modern “flex” nibs. The range of flex is from XF (0.3mm to 1.6mm). In my opinion the Watermans of this era are underrated. They have nice durable bodies, top notch accents, and wonderful nibs.
