Conklin Crescent 40 – Wet Noodle – (On Ebay)
This is the classic Conklin Crescent in size 40. The black hard rubber has faded to a dark chocolate brown. The imprints are also worn but mostly visible. The gold-filled trim shows no signs of brassing, but there are a few impressions on the clip (see pic). The name “G.W. Zeck” is imprinted in the side of the barrel. The other imprints on the pen are mostly worn off. There are a two small marks on the cap like little scrapes, and there is a hairline crack in the lip. The crack is so fine I almost missed it, and it looks and feels pretty stable. The crescent filler works great. The large 14kt. Conklin Toledo #4 nib is a very soft and very wet and very smooth writing M (0.55mm). It does have a little hump in the tines probably caused by someone trying to decrease the flow by bending the tines down. The nib flexes with ease going up to BBB+ (2.0mm). I have graded it Wet Noodle. It’s on the stiffer side of wet noodle. Not quite a paintbrush, but still quite soft. With some inks, you will get an occasional railroad. Still it’s a nice size Crescent Filler with a large flexy nib.
