Mabie Todd & Bard “Swan”- Wet Noodle (See Price Here)
Here is a BCHR Mabie Todd & Bard “Swan” eyedropper in just amazing near mint condition. This is a pre-1907 pen (1907 being when Mabie Todd dropped the “& Bard”) and probably pre- 1900. Latest patent date is 1895. Despite it’s years, the hard rubber is still shiny jet black. The chasing is crisp and looking new, and the imprints look as good as the day it was bought new. This pen could hardly have ever been used. This eyedropper has the over/ under feed not uncommon among these very early Swan pens. The only flaw I can really find with this pen is that the cap is a bit loose and is not tight when posted. The 14kt. Mabie Todd nib is a soft, wet noodle nib. It’s not paintbrush soft, but it is still very easy to flex. The beauty of this Swan is that it doesn’t write like a firehose like most of these Swans do. It’s still wet, to be sure, but I would say it’s more of a 7 or 8 /10. And it has a great and smooth writing fine nib. I like it a lot as a writer. The nib has good responsiveness when flexed. This is a Swan that is in very rare, near mint condition.
