Waterma 52 1/2V Red Ripple – Super Flex   (On Ebay)

This is a gorgeous Waterman 52 1/2V in woodgrain or red mottled hard rubber (not red ripple as the photo states, oops). This pen is in near mint, collector’s quality condition. There is virtually no fading of the hard rubber. The gold-filled trim still looks lovely, and the imprints have no apparent wear on them.  The only blemish are some light impressions on the barrel from where the cap threads, but they are very light. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a very smooth writing F with plenty of tipping left. Honestly, I don’t think this pen was hardly ever used. It also has some good flex that goes up to BB (1.6mm) with ease. Responsiveness is pretty good and the flow keeps up well. A stunning pen in top notch condition.

Vintage Eyedropper in Mother of Pearl – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

Here a nice, quality unbranded vintage hard rubber eyedropper pen. The pen is ornamented with faceted mother of pearl around the center of the barrel with gold filled repousse bands on each end. The hard rubber is still very black and shiny. The mother of pearl still looks very nice with just a little bit of scuffing here and there. There is a little plate loss on the bands, but nothing major. This pen is fitted with a 14kt. Mabie Todd Swan nib that is a very elegant writing XF (0.3mm) that is beautifully smooth, springy, and with good flow. The nib has some nice flex and some even nicer responsiveness. This eyedropper feels really solid and the nib is a beautiful elegant writer.

Wahl BCHR Ring Top – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a pretty little ring top from Wahl. The red/black woodgrain still looks quite vivid with just a tiny bit of fading. The gold filled trim also looks good with just a little bit of brassing on the crown of the lever. It’s a stunning little pen. The 14kt. Wahl #2 nib is juicy writing F that is smooth with just a hint of feedback to it. The tip of this nib was bent. I straightened the nib out and realigned everything about as good as you can get it. The effect now is purely cosmetic and has no bearing on the performance of the nib. You can just tell the tip of the nib has been marked up a bit in the past. It still has some nice flex going from F to BB (0.4mm to 1.6mm) with plenty of flow to keep up without railroading. A stunning, portable pen with some nice flex ability.

Waterman 52V – GOOD FLEX (On Ebay)

Here is a nice writing Waterman 52V in BCHR. The color of the hard rubber has faded some to a dark brown. Chasing has worn a little but still looks pretty good. Imprints all look pretty good as well. The nickel lever is in pretty good condition with no plate loss, but the Waterman logo is worn a little off and there are some tiny nicks that you can only see with magnification. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a juicy, very wet writing F (0.5mm) that writes smooth. It does have some decent flex, but it isn’t as responsive or easy to flex as the higher grade flex nibs. It’s still a great nib if you like wet writing with some flair.

Waterman 52V Persian – SUPER FLEX (On Ebay)

One of the prettiest pen styles Waterman made, in my opinion, is the Persian. Here is a Waterman 52V in Persian style. The original green has turned color as many/ most of these have to a golden brown on most of the pen. Nevertheless, the celluloid body still looks stunning. The gold-filled cap and band have slight bit of brassing: some on the ball of the clip, and a tiny bit on the edge of the band. The lever has some impressions on it, but the gold-filed overlay has held up. The black hard rubber section has also browned some. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is an elegant, springy XF that writes smooth with good flow. The flex comes quite easy on this nib and goes up 1.7mm (BB+) and it has excellent responsiveness. It’s a great pen for good, crisp flex writing or just adding some flair to your normal writing.

Waterman 14 PSF – SUPER FLEX  (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 14 PSF in BCHR in fantastic condition. The black hard rubber body of this pen is still black and even has the original shine. There is just the slightest bit of grayish fade appearing on the top half of the cap; otherwise, the body looks brand new. Imprints are all good and crisp as well. The nickel trim looks great. The only real flaw of this pen is that the cap threads a bit tight. It’s clearly the original cap and the external threads are perfect, so probably a small scratch or something on the internal cap threads. The best part of this pen is 14kt. Waterman #4 nib. It writes normally as nice, wet XF/ F that is very smooth and springy. The flex on this nib comes with ease. It is right on the border between super flex and wet noodle in my testing, but the responsiveness is what really sets this apart as an elite flex nib. It’s very easy to control and a joy to use.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a beautiful Skyline in standard size in burgundy with green pinstripe cap with the large gold filled band. It’s a gorgeous and classy Skyline. The body of this pen has typical light surface scratching much of which I have buffed and polished off. There are a few small, but deeper scratches in the cap derby (see pic). The gold filled trim is on good condition except for a little plate loss on the lever and some light scratching on the band. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a ultra smooth but also ultra wet writing F/M (0.5mm). It is beautiful writer if you like wet nibs. If not, then probably pass. The nib also has some decent flex to it though it lacks the range and responsiveness of higher grade flex nibs. Still it’s a beautiful writer and a gorgeous pen.

Wahl Tempoint Flat Top – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is an vintage Wahl Tempoint in BCHR with a patent date of 1904. The pen has faded and is now a dark brown. The chasing has worn some but is visible and still has some texture. The imprints are also all readable. The gold-filled lever has just a little bit of brassing towards its middle. The original clip has been lost, and at some point someone filled in the hole it left with some rubber cement. The 14kt. Wahl #3 is an ultra, buttery smooth writing Fine with some nice bounce to it. It’s an amazingly soft writer. The nib also has some nice flex going up BBB (1.8mm). It has decent responsiveness and the flow is great.

Waterman 52V – Super Flex (On Ebay)

This Waterman 52V is made of black chased hard rubber. The hard rubber has faded some to a dark brownish black. The chasing is worn but visible. Imprints are mostly readable, though the “52V” on the back of the barrel is worn to barely readable. This 52V originally had a clip that is no longer present. The nickel filled lever is in good shape with just a little bit of wear. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a smooth writing XF that flows with medium wetness. It has some nice flex that comes with ease. It ranges from 0.3mm (XF) to 1.7mm (BB+). The flow is great as the feed has no trouble keeping up.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is a lovely standard size Skyline in green with a green and gold pinstripe cap. The pen is in overall very nice condition. The gold filled trim looks excellent with no signs of plate loss. There is some very light scratching on the body from use, but I have buffed out much of it. There are also two very small indentations on the body in the lever box. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a superb writing “F” (0.5mm). It really feels like a medium. The flow is just perfect. Wet and juicy, but not overly wet to maximize shading of the ink. It is smooth and soft and just a beautiful writer. The flex on this pen has nice range going all the way up to BBB (1.8mm). It really has many qualities of a “super flex” nib, but it is just a bit too stiff for super flex. Still you can do some nice flex writing with this nib. If you love Skylines (and how can you not?), this is a great option.
