Mabie Todd Swan Ring Top – Super Flex (On Ebay)

This a gorgeous, near mint, made in N.Y. Mabie Todd gold filled ring top. The pen shows no signs of brassing and appears to have hardly ever been used. It has very little scratching and no dings. The only flaws I can find are some very tiny markings above the monogram. The pen has the initials M.L.T. engraved. The 14kt. #2 Mabie Todd Swan nib is a superb flex nib. It writes normally as a wet F (0.5mm) but flexes easily up to 2.3mm. The flex on this is nearing wet noodle status, though not quite there. It’s a stunning little pen.

Wahl BCHR Ring Top – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a Wahl Vest size pen (4 1/2″ capped). It is a clipless (no original clip) and ringless (no original ring top) pen. The BCHR is faded to a brown and the chasing is worn though visible. The chasing on the cap is pretty smooth while the chasing on the body still has some decent texture. The gold filled lever is in good condition with only one tiny spot of brassing. It comes with a nice, smooth glassy F 14kt. Wahl #2 nib. The nib has great range of flex going all the way up to 2.1mm. It is a bit on the stiff side for a super flex, but still a nice flexing nib.

Moore Ring Top – Medium Flex

Here is a vintage Moore ring top in black with bronze flecks. The pen looks beautiful and is in good condition. The gold filled has only very minor brassing. The lever may be a replacement as it appears to be nickel plated. The body in very good condition with only very minor marks due to general use. The bronze/ gold flecks shimmer in the light. The Warranted 14kt. nib is a replacement nib (the original Moore nib was damaged). It’s a very smooth XF. It does have a decent flex range but I would only grade this as a medium flex.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a gorgeous burgundy Skyline with a pin stripe cap. The pen is in very good condition except for one flaw. As is not uncommon with these Skylines, the barrel cracked where it attaches to the section. I have sealed the crack and shellacked the section to the barrel to ensure stability. There is light scratching on the body, but nothing serious and I have buffed much of it out. The gold trim is on very good condition with only some very light plate loss on the lever. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is an XF with good flex ability. It’s a hard nib to grate. It is the range and responsiveness of a super flex, but it is a bit too stiff to be graded as such. Still it produces some nice flex writing.

Waterman 0752 – Super Flex  – SOLD

This Waterman 0752 (a 52 with gold filled trim) has the old Waterman numbering system which would date it pre-1917. The clip states 18kt. gold filled, which I assume is the case with the band as well. The BCHR is faded to a dark brown and the chasing is quite worn throughout. The side imprint is worn, though readable and the back imprint is still crisp. There is some brassing on the clip and some on the bottom edge of the band. The box of the lever is brassed, though polished to a shine. The lever itself looks pretty good. The 14kt. #2 Waterman nib is a good one. It’s a smooth and wet fine (0.4mm) that flexes up to 2.2mm. A great example of an early 52.

Waterman 52 – Super Flex  – (On Ebay)

This beautiful Waterman 52 is in very good condition. The BCHR has faded to a dark brown and there is some wear to the chasing although it still has decent texture to it. The imprints are still pretty crisp. The gold filled trim looks very good. The lever has only a small spot of brassing. The gold filled filigree band and clip look great without signs of brassing. The 14kt. Wateramn #2 nib is fantastic. It is an ultra, buttery smooth F that flexes easily up to BBB (2.omm). It takes little pressure to get an initial flex and you will probably flex at times without meaning to. It also has some nice responsiveness and is pretty good for detailed flexing.

Waterman 52V – SUPER FLEX (On Ebay)

Here a very nice Waterman 52V in BCHR. The BCHR is still very black with nice crisp chasing. The imprints also all look very good. The nickel plated lever looks good also with only very minimal amounts of plate loss on the box. The ring top has some wear on it. The 14kt. Waterman #2 writes as a wet and smooth F (0.4mm) and has near wet noodle ease of flex. It does have a very tiny crack coming out of the right side of the air hole. It’s small enough that it doesn’t really show up on the pics. The nib  flexes all the way up to BBB (2.2mm!). It’s a very good flexing nib.

Parker Lucky Curve Jack Knife Safety Pen – Good Flex  – (On Ebay)

Here is a BCHR Parker Lucky Curve Jack-Knife Saftey Pen #20. It is still has the lucky curve feed, curve and all, and has a patent date of June 4, 1912. The pen is in pretty good condition. There is some fading to the hard rubber body making it more of a grayish black. The imprints are still pretty good. The ring top has little to no brassing on it and looks good. The 14kt. Parker Lucky Curve nib writes as a nice, smooth XF and flexes up to BBB (1.9mm). Although it has great line variation, it is a little too stiff for me to grade a super flex. Still it is quite easy to do some nice flex writing.

Waterman Taperite  (On Ebay)

I personally really enjoy Waterman Taperite pens. They are, in my opinion, the underated counter to Parker 51s. Perhaps, partly because they are so difficult to restore without breaking. This fine pen was produced around the late 40s. The pen is in decent condition. It is made of black celluloid with gold filled trim. There are some blemishes on the body. There is a little nick by the lever and a similar one on the other side of the barrel. There is is also a very minimal bulge above the gold band on the back of cap. There is a bit of brassing on the lever. The band has some scratching but little to know brassing and the clip is in good condition. The clutch for the cap still works pretty well. The hooded 14kt. Waterman nib writes as a nice, smooth XF. The nib does have a bit of flex, but it is best suited for normal writing which it does very well.

Moore L-72 Ring Top – Super Flex

Here is a vintage Moore L-72 ring top in BCHR. The pen in excellent condition. The BCHR is still very black and chasing is pretty good. There is some light scratching throughout the surface of the pen. The imprints are also still pretty good. The gold-filled trim looks in good condition. The only brassing I could find was through magnification. This pen does not have an original Moore nib, but a “Warranted 14kt.” nib. This nib has a lot of character. It’s a stubbish F (0.4m) but with some decent line variation, so the nib does write quite as smooth as a normal F. The iridium on the nib is low but still present. The nib has some really easy flex that really goes past 1.9mm. Due to its stubbish shape, it can be a bit finicky about the angle you are using when flexing. Still some Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji worked great in this pen.
