Waterman 515 – Semi Flex

Waterman 515 – Semi Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a beautiful made in England Waterman 515 in a lovely burgundy celluloid with golf-filled appointments. The pen is in superb shape. There is very, very minimal surface scratching from normal use. The cigar like barrel feels wonderful in the hand. The gold-filled trim is in near mint condition. Imprints are great. There’s nothing really not to like about this pen. The 14kt. Waterman #5 is a spectacular, wet writing Fine stub. The nib feels wonderful on the page. It would be perfect for those cursive writers out there wanting to add a little flavor to their writing, but it’s also a great nib for those printers (like me). It really brings out the shading in inks. The nib does have some flex ranging decently up to 1.4mm, but it lacks the ease of flex and responsiveness of a higher grade flex nib. That doesn’t mean it’s inferior. It does what it was made to do with excellence.

Waterman 52 – Good-Super Flex

Waterman 52 – Good-Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is the iconic Waterman 52 in BCHR. The pen is in good condition with some fading of the hard rubber. I’d say it’s a dark brown. Chasing is still present but somewhat worn. Much more worn on the body than the cap. The nickel-filled trim is in nice condition with no brassing that I can see. The Waterman 14kt. #2 nib is XF (0.3mm). It is a lovely writer. Just beautifully soft and smooth with plenty of flow. The flex has a good range going up to BB (1.4mm). Ease of flex is good. The responsiveness is a bit less than the typical “super flex” nib, which is why I graded this as somewhere between “good” and “super” flex. Overall, this is a wonderful pen.

Mabie Todd Swan Gold Filled – Super Flex

Mabie Todd Swan Gold Filled – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a gorgeous made in New York gold-filled Mabie Todd Swan. Patent date is 1915. This pen is in excellent condition. The engraved pattern on the body is beautiful, and the flaws are minimal. There are two scratches on either side of the barrel near the lever box. Something must have pinched it once. There is small dent towards the section that is really hard to see, and a scratch on the section. Also there is some very slight brassing on the barrel end. You’ll only see any of this by looking carefully. The pens has the initials “C.V.F.” on the barrel. There is a tiny bit of light scratching on the clip. The #2 Mabie Todd Swan nib is a pretty wet writing F (0.4mm) that is a bit stubby. The flex on this pen is beautiful ranging up to BBB+ (1.8mm) and also has very nice responsiveness. Wow. This is a gorgeous hundred year old pen, and it comes equipped with a superb Swan flex nib.
