Omas Extra – Super Flex / Wet Noodle

Omas Extra – Super Flex / Wet Noodle  (See Price Here)

Here is a vintage Omas Extra in black celluloid. It has the trademark Omas band and roller clip. I love the way Omas celluloid feels in the hand. It’s hard to explain, but this pen is no different and has the classic Omas feel. The body has light surface scratches from normal use. The gold-filled trim looks pretty good, but does have some brassing/ pitting on the lever, and a bit on the edges of the clip and band. The 14kt.Omas Extra nib is wonderful. It writes as a very wet XF/F. It has a buttery smooth sweet spot and is quite wet as typical for Omas. The flex is also lovely coming very easily with outstanding range and nice snap back. I would label this flex as somewhere between the higher side of “super flex” and the lower side of “wet noodle.” It’s a high quality flex nib on classic Italian pen.

Mabie Todd Swan #3230 – Super Flex

Mabie Todd Swan #3230 – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This made in England Swan lever-filler comes in a dark gray celluloid with gold-filled trim. The body has darkened some especially on the body. There is a small indentation on the barrel from what was likely an over zealous buffing. The gold-filled trim has some light brassing along the sides of the lever, at the crown of the clip, and on the edges of the bands. Imprints are mostly good and crisp. There is a little wear at the very bottom of the side barrel imprint. The 14kt. Swan nib is a beauty. It’s a buttery, wet XF (0.3mm). It’s probably going to feel more like a F on less absorbent papers. The flex is very good. It comes quite easily and has a nice range going from XF – BBB (1.7mm). This is a pen that feels great in the hand with a fantastic vintage nib that is superb writer and adds the great bonus of good flex.

Waterman 7 “RED” Red Ripple – Super Flex

Waterman 7 “RED” Red Ripple – Super Flex  (See Price Here)

This is the iconic Waterman 7 Red Ripple color coded “RED,” which is generally considered the best all around nib of the Waterman 7 series. There is some light fading of the hard rubber, but it still has mostly good color. The gold-filled trim looks good, but there is some brassing on the top edge of the band and some scuffing on the crown of the lever. Also the lever sticks up from the body slightly. The “Red” band on the cap is now more of a dark maroon. Imprints are still quite good. The cap threads on with only a quarter turn. The 14kt. #7 Waterman “RED” nib is a wet and smooth XF (0.3mm) which feels great in so large a pen. The flex is also good. A solid “super flex” as is typical of RED nibs. It ranges up to BBB and has good snap back. Overall, it’s a Waterman 7 RED, a pen synonymous with classic vintage style and superb quality.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Good Flex

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Good Flex – (On Ebay)

Love a good Skyline. Here is one in black with the classic ribbed, gold-filled cap. The body looks great with only slight, surface scratching from normal use. Most everything buffed out beautifully. The cap is a beauty. Really hard to find one of these without dings, and I can’t find one on this cap. No brassing on the cap or clip. A little plate wear on the top of the lever from posting the cap over the years. The clip does have a little ding down on the end. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is what you would expect. Wet, beautifully smooth, but it’s also surprisingly fine coming in a 0.3mm (XF). The flex on this has very good range going up to 1.5mm and great flow. It is just a bit too stiff to be a “super flex.” Still, a great Skyline.

Waterman 52V – Super Flex

Waterman 52V – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a gorgeous Waterman 52V in BCHR with gold-filled accents. The BCHR is a dark brownish black colors, so it has faded a bit. The chasing is visible with a little texture still but does have some wear. The imprints are readable but are worn. The “52V” is still very crisp. Other than some minor, surface scratching from normal use, the trim looks great. No brassing. The large band on the cap really sets these pens off as special and distinguished. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a wet and smooth writing XF (0.3mm). It’s quite soft and slightly stubbish. They just don’t make nibs like these anymore. It also has nice flex ranging up to BB (1.5mm) that comes quite easily. Responsiveness is decent. Flow is great. Overall, a beautiful classic that when posted has the girth and feel of a 52 with the portability of a vest pen.
