Conklin Crescent #30 – Super Flex (Near Mint)

Conklin Crescent #30 – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is a superb crescent in the typical BCHR in near mint condition. The hard rubber is still black without any noticeable fading. The chasing and the imprints also look like new. The gold-filled trim also looks really good with no brassing to speak of. This pen looks to have hardly every been used. The 14kt. Conklin #3, made in Toledo nib is a smooth XXF / XF (0.25mm). It’s not as wet as the typical nibs of this era. I would say a 4/10 wetness, but it still writes plenty well and smooth. The flex is quite nice on this coming easily and going up to BBB (1.7mm). Responsiveness is also very good. Overall, a superb Crescent. It is not easy to find these in this kind of condition.

Omas Extra Brevette – Super Flex/Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Omas Extra Brevette – Super Flex/Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Oh boy. Here is a beautiful vintage Omas Extra Brevette piston filler in black celluloid. There is some light scratching on this pen from normal use but nothing that is deep or obvious. There are two little bumps on either end of the barrel (see pics). I have no idea what caused these. The gold-filled trim looks really nice with no brassing. The piston filler works great. I put a little silicone grease in there. The 14kt Omas “Extra Lucens” (or extra light/ fine) nib is superb. This is really an XXF, which are pretty hard to come by in an Omas of this era. It writes a lovely, smooth line with great flow and feels soft and elegant. If you like really fine nibs, you’ll love this one. Additionally, it has some soft flex with superb responsiveness. The flex only goes up to 1.2mm, but that is all you need with such a fine starting point and great responsive action. Had the swells been a little larger, I would have graded this a “wet noodle.” Still, it feels “dip nibbish” in the quality of writing you are able to do with it. Overall, it’s a fantastic find.

SIZE: 4 1/2″ Capped

Waterman 54 Red Ripple – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 54 Red Ripple – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 54 in the iconic Waterman Red Ripple hard rubber. The hard rubber has faded only a little and still has good character. Imprints are a little worn but still visible and readable. There are a couple of issues with the gold-filled trim. The clip has been been out a bit. In addition to the ball being pulled away from the cap, there is a crack in the clip at one of the top rivets (see pic). I’ve pushed on it a bit and it seems pretty stable for now, but I would treat it with care. There is some brassing on the band and a little bit of scuffing in the lever. The 14kt. Waterman #4 nib is a fantastic writer laying down a buttery smooth and wet F (0.4mm) line. Additionally, the nib has a bit of a stubbish quality giving your line some character. The flex on this nib comes pretty easy going up to BBB (1.7mm) with good responsiveness. Overall, a really nice Waterman that would make both a great writer and give you some nice flex.

Waterman 452 1/2 V – Good/Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 452 1/2 V – Good/Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a lovely Waterman 452 1/2 V with the sterling silver filigree overlay. The overlay is in good condition with only light scratching from use, but nothing very obvious. There is one tiny ding on the end of barrel. The black hard rubber underneath the overlay is still quite dark with minimal fading. The lever is in good condition but it does stick out just a bit from the body when closed (see pic). Likely the internal bar is bent a bit keeping it from closing flush. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a wet writing XF that is smooth with only a hint of feedback. I would say smoother than my XF Aurora nib or Platinum nib. The flex is also nice going up to BB (1.4mm). Flex comes fairly easily, but the range isn’t huge maxing out at 1.4mm. Or maxing out safely anyway. Responsiveness is decent. I’ve graded it somewhere between a good “good flex” and a low end “super flex.”

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline (Demi) – Good Flex (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline (Demi) – Good Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a Skyline in the Demi size in black with a gold-filled cap. The pen is in great shape. There is some light surface scratching from normal use, but it’s mostly unnoticeable and a lot of it buffed out with some micro mesh. The gold-filled cap is also in great condition. The only two flaw I see are a couple of tiny pin pricks near the top of the cap (see pic). They are really, really small. The cap has no brassing. The lever does have some plate loss near the middle due to posting the cap. It’s a rarity to NOT find plate loss there on these pens. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a wet XF that is buttery smooth. Eversharp was renown for the writing quality of their nibs and rightly so. And this one is no exception. The flex on this has pretty decent range going from XF to BBB (1.6mm). It’s a bit too firm to grade as a super flex. Responsiveness is decent. Flow is good. Overall, another great Skyline.

SIZE:  4 7/8″ Capped

NIB: Eversharp 14kt., XF to BBB (0.3mm-1.6mm) SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 52 1/2 V Red Ripple – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 52 1/2 Red Ripple – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a 52 1/2 V in Waterman’s lovely Red Ripple hard rubber. The red ripple hard rubber is only slightly faded and still has a lot of good color to it. The imprints on this are very crisp. Almost new looking. The gold-filled trim looks beautiful as well. There is one tiny tiny little dent on the lever box, but otherwise it’s about as good as you could wish for. No brassing whatsoever. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is rare one. It’s a XXXF (0.1mm!). With a light ink it’s almost illegible it’s so fine. But that also means this is a great nib for hairlines! The flex range on this isn’t massive only going up to 1.2mm, but with an XXXF starting point it hardly needs any swell to do some nice flex work. I graded it somewhere between a good and super flex mainly because it doesn’t have very large swells, but the flex comes easily enough and that XXXF tip makes is very responsive. It’s pretty smooth for so fine a nib. It’s a very unique find and will make someone very happy.

SIZE:  4 3/8″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XXXF to BB (0.1mm-1.2mm), SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Lever

Waterman 12 – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 12 – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

This is a Waterman 12 eyedropper in BCHR with a patent dates of 1899 and 1903. The hard rubber has faded some to a dark blackish brown. The chasing is still visible, and on the cap it still has a lot of texture. The chasing on the barrel is more worn and feels smooth in some spots. The imprints are a little worn as well but easily readable. This 12 has an accommodation clip. It’s on there pretty good, and I didn’t try and pry it off. I think this is a clipless model, but with the accommodation clip on there I can be sure. The clip is in decent condition, but does have some plate loss and wear to it. The Waterman #2 14kt. nib is a lovely, smooth writing XF. It has a beautiful stub-like quality that gives your writing a little extra character to it. It’s wet but not abundantly so, which really allows the character of the nib to come out. It’s a great writer. I really enjoyed this nib. The flex is nice as well going up pretty easily to 1.6-1.7mm (BBB). Snap back is pretty good also. As an eyedropper, the flow keeps up easily. I don’t think I had a railroad with it once. Overall, fantastic vintage eyedropper well over 100 years old.

Mabie Todd Swan Self Filler – Super Flex (SOLD)

Mabie Todd Swan Self Filler – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a made in England Mabie Todd Swan Self-Filler in smooth (no original chasing) black hard rubber with a red-rippled hard rubber “crown” on the cap. This pen is nearly identical in size to a Waterman 52. The hard rubber has faded some to a blackish brown. The imprints are faded without a lot of texture, but they are mostly readable in good light. The gold-filled trim on the cap is in good condition with little if any brassing. There is some brassing on the bands of the body and on the edges of the lever. The 14kt. Swan #2 is a wonderful writing XF that has good flow without being a gusher. The nib feels soft and elegant. It also has some very nice flex ranging up to BBBB (1.8mm), though I usually keep it around 1.6mm. Responsiveness is also quite good and springy.

SIZE:  5 1/2″ Capped

NIB: 14kt. Swan #2, F to BBB+ (0.3mm-1.9mm)  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Good Flex (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Good Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a standard size Wahl-Eversharp Skyline in burgundy with a gold-filled cap. The body of the pen has some light scratching of normal use typical of these Skylines. Much of it I have buffed out with micro mesh and some polish. There are a couple of very small dings on the gold-filled cap but not plate loss. The lever does have some plate loss on the edges of the crown of the lever caused by the posting the cap. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is pure joy to write with. It is wet F / M (0.5mm) that feels buttery on paper. The Skyline design is intended to fit perfectly in the hand, and with this nib you just don’t want to put the pen down. It also has some flex ranging up to 1.8mm. Flex is a bit on the firm side due to it’s wetness, it lacks some responsiveness. I would grade it as a high “medium flex” or a low “good flex.”

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped
