Waterman 3 – Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Here is a wonderful Waterman 3 in silver and red celluloid. The body looks great without anything in the way of significant scratches, etc. The chrome plated trim does have some wear. There is some pitting on the clip and a little bit on the lever. The thin cap band also has a bit of west on it when you looks closely. But this pen is all about the nib, which is a stunner. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a wet writing XF with a smooth “sweet spot.” But the really joy of this pen is that it has soft, easy, near paintbrush flex that is both huge and responsive. The range of this nib is superb going from XF (0.3mm) to a whopping BBBB (1.9mm). Combined with that range is a upper level responsiveness hard to find in a nib this soft. Wahl-Eversharp Skyline (Demi) – Good Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is Skyline, Demi size, in green with gold filled trim. The body looks great with only minimal light scratching from normal use and most of it buffed and polished out. The gold-filled trim is also about as good as you can find in a Skyline with no brassing to speak of. The name “Lois Jean Brooks” is etched in the side of the barrel. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a very smooth F. It is wet but not a gusher, and makes for a really nice normal writer. The nib does have some flex. The range of the nib is really good going from F to BBB (1.8mm), and it is pretty responsive as well. Ease of flex is a bit on the stiff side and you will start to get some railroading after you’ve flexing for a bit unless you are using some really wet ink. Still, this nib is better than anything you can in modern stock flex nibs.

Waterman 0552 1/2  L. E. C. – Super Flex   (On Ebay)

Here is a gorgeous Waterman 0552 1/2 L.E.C. The “05” means it has a gold-filled overlay, the “52 1/2” means it is a “52” size in length but has the thinner profile, and the “L.E.C.” (stands for lower end covered) means the overlay covers the end of the barrel, or basically that almost the entire pen is covered sans the threads and section The overlay is very nice condition. There is no brassing, very minimal (pretty much unnoticeable) scratching of scuffing, and the checker pattern looks really sharp. There are a few small dents on the end of barrel, as well as one just under the lever (see pics). The clip and lever both look pristine. The initials “J.A.W.” are engraved in the side. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is lovely. It’s smooth F (0.4mm) with medium wetness. It really feels a bit finer than it is. If you want a vintage pen, but don’t like how wet most of them are then this nib is perfect for you. The flex is very nice going rather easily up to 1.6mm and has some quality responsiveness. Flow keeps up well. It’s everything you want in a vintage Waterman.

Wahl Gold Filled Vest Pen #3 – Wet Noodle  (See Price Here)

Here is a Wahl gold-filled vest pen. It is the larger size with a #3 nib and has the clip rather than a ring top. The gold-filled body is in great condition with no signs of brassing. There is only very light scratching from light use. There is also only one small ding on the top of the cap. The personalization “Vivian” is professional etched in the side of the barrel. The superstar of this pen is the 14kt. Wahl #3 nib. It is a near paintbrush soft wet noodle with massive range. The pen writes well normally as a F (0.4mm). It is soft, smooth, and rather wet. With very little pressure the nib flexes up to a range of BBBB (2.2mm)! That’s just huge. Furthermore, the pen has some great responsiveness. Whether you want to write normally, add some moderate flex, or really go big, this nib does it all. Plus, it’s in a very portable and durable body.

Mabie Todd Swan in Gold-Filled Overlay & Over/Under Feed – Wet Noodle ( See Price Here)

Here is an absolutely gorgeous made in New York Mabie Todd (post “& Bard” era) Swan. This Swan comes with the barrel wrapped in an original high quality gold-filled overlay with no personalizations. The overlay is in superb condition with no brassing and no dings. There is a little bit of fading to the hard rubber. The imprint on the cap is worn a bit. It’s visible but it isn’t very easy to see. The 14kt. Swan nib is a soft wet noodle with near paintbrush ease of flex. This is a very wet writing F as is typical of these vintage eye droppers. You can easily use this as a normal writer so long as you have good, fountain pen friendly paper. Range of flex is also excellent going from F (0.4mm) to BBB (1.8mm). The writing sample says 1.9mm, but I made an adjustment to the feed, which improved the responsiveness but lessened the range a bit, and thus the discrepancy. Responsiveness is really very good for such a wet pen. This is a collector’s quality pen with a flex enthusiasts nib. What’s not to love?

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Good Flex – (On Ebay)

This is standard size Skyline in Navy with a gorgeous green and navy pin stripe cap. This color and cap is my personal favorite style of Skyline. The body is in very nice shape. There is only very light scratching throughout that has mostly buffed out. Gold-filled trim has no plate loss anywhere. There are a few small scratches on the cap next to the clip, but they are very noticeable. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a wet, smooth F (0.4mm) that is a great writer. It’s the kind of nib you could enjoy for hours of writing. The flex on this nib is good ranging up to BBB (1.7mm). It has decent responsiveness and great ink flow. The ease of flex is just a bit too firm to be considered “super flex” in my opinion. Still, this is a fantastic and beautiful Skyline.

Mabie Todd Swan Vest Pen Gold-Filled Eyedropper – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a beautiful gold-filled Swan that happens also to be an eyedropper. The pen is in great shape. There is some brassing on the end of the barrel, but most of it blends in really well. There is also a little bit of brassing on the barrel that is covered by the cap. The brassing in both places comes from the cap being posted or screwed on. There are two very tiny dings in the “personalization” area. There is no personalization as it is still blank. There is some light scratching on the body from years of use as you would expect, but the pen still shines. Besides those very minor blemishes, this pen is in wonderful shape and is quite a beauty to behold. The 14kt. Swan nib is a wonderful writer. It’s a smooth XF that is soft, bouncy, wet and just a joy to use. The flex is also fantastic ranging from XF (0.3mm) to BBB+ (1.8mm)! Additionally, this nib has a great bounce and snappy responsiveness.

Mabie Todd Swan – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a made in New York, Mabie Todd Swan eyedropper with over/under feed in BCHR. This is a 1500/1512 model. The color is a very dark blackish brown. Chasing is still pretty good and imprints are all still clear and readable. The pen also comes with the original Mabie Todd box, which is in pretty good condition. The 14kt. Swan nib writes normally as a smooth XF. It’s wet but not too wet. I love writing with it. The nib has an elegant feel to it. The flex comes easy and has a great range going up to BBBB (2.0mm)! This nib is nearing wet noodle territory, but it isn’t quite there. It has a pretty good snappiness to it as well. This is an all around great vintage eyedropper. Great writing. Great flex.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is standard size Skyline in green with the gold-filled cap. The body is in good condition with only very light surface scratching typical of use. The gold-filled cap is without any brassing, but it does have a few small dings here and there. The clip is without brassing as well. The lever has some plate loss. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a pure joy to use. It is a hard to find butter smooth XF with good but not out of control flow. The flex is also lovely going from XF to BBB (1.7mm). It lays down quite a bit of ink when flexed. It has pretty decent responsiveness. That heavy ink flow keeps it from being really snappy, but it’s also pretty good for how wet it is. A great Skyline, and wow is this nib lovely.
