Conklin Crescent 20 – Super Flex (SOLD)

Conklin Crescent 20 – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is the classic Conklin Crescent in size 20. The black hard rubber has faded a little to a slightly brownish black. The chasing is pretty good. A little worn in places. There is an area on the cap where it’s lost it’s texture, but the rest of the pen looks and feels good. Crescent filler is great condition. The trim looks good with no brassing. The imprints are mostly good and readable with just a spot here and there where it has faded some. The 14kt. Cokline Toledo #2 is a wet writing F that is smooth and a good writing vintage nib. It has some great flex that comes with ease and ranges all the way to 1.7mm. It also has some very nice responsiveness. It’s overall a superb pen.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline (Demi) – Super/Good Flex (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super/Good Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a Skyline in the demi size with navy blue barrel and gold-filled cap and dome. The pen is in good condition. There is some of the light scratching from use, but it isn’t too bad at all. Most of it came out in the polishing of the body. There is a scratch around the barrel that is from the edge of the cap when the gold-filled sleeve was loose and had slid down around the barrel. It’s issue with this pens, and I have rebounded the sleeve to the cap. I do not see and dings or brassing on the pen. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a glorious XF (0.3mm). You’d be hard pressed to find a better XF writer. It’s smooth and fun to use. It also has some good flex ranging up to 1.6mm. It’s right on the border between good and super flex to me. I graded good flex because it’s a bit stiff and it doesn’t have elite range. Still, I love writing with this pen.

Waterman 23 – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 23 – Super Flex (On Ebay)

This is a rare and difficult to come by Waterman. The latest patent date is 1884, and the pen likely predates the 1900s. The taper caps were meant to mimic the feel of a dip pen when posted, and they definitely give it that flavor. This pen is in great condition for it’s age. The cap has faded some to a grayish, brownish blackish color. But the body is still fairly black just a bit duller than original. The chasing is very good and imprints are still crisp. The repousse bands are also in nice condition with no brassing. The 23 comes with a 14kt. early Waterman #3 nib. It is very, very fine. Normally it writes as a XXF (0.2mm) but flexes up to BB (1.4mm). The flex on this nib isn’t huge, but it is perfect for hairlines. And it is so responsive that you can do much more quality flex work than with most nibs that flex larger. Responsivness and fineness trump big flex in my book, and this has them both. Great, quite rare vintage pen.

SIZE:  5 7/8″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XXF to BB (0.3mm-1.4mm),  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 52 1/2V – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 52 1/2V  – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

Here is nice Waterman 52 1/2 V in BCHR. The black hard rubber has faded some to a dark brown, but the chasing on the pen is excellent and crisp. The imprints are also very clear and crisp. The nickel trim is in nice condition with no signs of brassing. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a beauty. It’s a soft, wet, and springy F. It flexes softly with ease, near wet noodle ease, all the way to BBB+ (1.9mm). It has about average responsiveness, but it really takes very little pressure to make these tines spread.

SIZE:  4 1/4″ Capped

Conklin Crescent 40 – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

Conklin Crescent 40 –  Wet Noodle – (On Ebay)

This is the classic Conklin Crescent in size 40. The black hard rubber has faded to a dark chocolate brown. The imprints are also worn but mostly visible. The gold-filled trim shows no signs of brassing, but there are a few impressions on the clip (see pic). The name “G.W. Zeck” is imprinted in the side of the barrel. The other imprints on the pen are mostly worn off. There are a two small marks on the cap like little scrapes, and there is a hairline crack in the lip. The crack is so fine I almost missed it, and it looks and feels pretty stable. The crescent filler works great. The large 14kt. Conklin Toledo #4 nib is a very soft and very wet and very smooth writing M (0.55mm). It does have a little hump in the tines probably caused by someone trying to decrease the flow by bending the tines down. The nib flexes with ease going up to BBB+ (2.0mm). I have graded it Wet Noodle. It’s on the stiffer side of wet noodle. Not quite a paintbrush, but still quite soft. With some inks, you will get an occasional railroad. Still it’s a nice size Crescent Filler with a large flexy nib.

Moore Gold Filled Ring Top – Wet Noodle

Moore Gold Filled Ring Top – Wet Noodle  (On Ebay)

Here is a pretty little gold filled ring top by Moore. I like ring tops by Moore ring as they have a good quality feel to them. There are a nice weight and the caps always thread nicely. There is no brassing that I could find on this pen. There is one small ding on the body, but other than that the pen seems pretty clean other than the usual light scratching that comes with normal use. The initials “F.W.” are inscribed in the side of the cap. The 14kt #2 Moore nib is a very wet writing F that is smooth and soft, and it is has some fantastic flex. It ranges from a wet 0.4mm (F) to a large 1.8mm (BBB). It is very soft and smooth and has some nice responsiveness. A great, durable and portable noodle.

Waterman 52V Red Ripple – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterman 52V Red Ripple – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a nice Waterman 52V in Red Ripple. The 52 is the vest pen version (thus “V”) of the 52. It’s same bulk as the 52 but shorter. Posted it’s meant to feel like a 52 unposted, and I think it succeeds. It’s one my favorite vintage Waterman sizes. The hard rubber is a bit faded, though not bad at all. The gold filled trim looks good with no brassing. There are some small impressions in the lever, but no plate wear. Imprints are faded and barely readable. It is missing the ring at the top. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a gorgeous wet writing XF (0.3mm) that has some nice wet flex going up to BBB (1.8mm). Normally, it writes wet and springy like many Waterman’s of this era. The flex comes pretty easy, has plenty of flow to keep up, and pretty decent responsivess. It’s a great all around pen in beautiful Red Ripple.
