Wahl Tempoint Flat Top – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is an vintage Wahl Tempoint in BCHR with a patent date of 1904. The pen has faded and is now a dark brown. The chasing has worn some but is visible and still has some texture. The imprints are also all readable. The gold-filled lever has just a little bit of brassing towards its middle. The original clip has been lost, and at some point someone filled in the hole it left with some rubber cement. The 14kt. Wahl #3 is an ultra, buttery smooth writing Fine with some nice bounce to it. It’s an amazingly soft writer. The nib also has some nice flex going up BBB (1.8mm). It has decent responsiveness and the flow is great.

Waterman 52V – Super Flex (On Ebay)

This Waterman 52V is made of black chased hard rubber. The hard rubber has faded some to a dark brownish black. The chasing is worn but visible. Imprints are mostly readable, though the “52V” on the back of the barrel is worn to barely readable. This 52V originally had a clip that is no longer present. The nickel filled lever is in good shape with just a little bit of wear. The 14kt. Waterman #2 is a smooth writing XF that flows with medium wetness. It has some nice flex that comes with ease. It ranges from 0.3mm (XF) to 1.7mm (BB+). The flow is great as the feed has no trouble keeping up.

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is a lovely standard size Skyline in green with a green and gold pinstripe cap. The pen is in overall very nice condition. The gold filled trim looks excellent with no signs of plate loss. There is some very light scratching on the body from use, but I have buffed out much of it. There are also two very small indentations on the body in the lever box. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a superb writing “F” (0.5mm). It really feels like a medium. The flow is just perfect. Wet and juicy, but not overly wet to maximize shading of the ink. It is smooth and soft and just a beautiful writer. The flex on this pen has nice range going all the way up to BBB (1.8mm). It really has many qualities of a “super flex” nib, but it is just a bit too stiff for super flex. Still you can do some nice flex writing with this nib. If you love Skylines (and how can you not?), this is a great option.

Waterman 52V – SUPER FLEX/WET NOODLE (On Ebay)

A very nice Waterman 52 in red ripple hard rubber. There is just some light fading of the hard rubber, but it still looks very nice. The imprints are worn some but visible. The gold filled trim looks silky and lovely shimmering on contrast to the orange and black. There is just the slightest bit of wear on the cap band. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a real beauty. It is a soft, springy kind of stubbish XF (0.3mm) that writes wet and smooth. The flex on this is fantastic. If you are looking for some monster flex, then this isn’t your pen as it only flexes up to 1.4mm (BB). But the responsiveness of the nib is superior making nice, crisp flexing seem easy. This isn’t a paintbrush, and as far as ease of flex I would say that it is right on the border between super flex and wet noodle. Also, I have found that with some thinner inks, you can get some railroading if you are doing a bunch of flex writing at one time.

Vintage Ring Top – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a pretty little black and light green marbled celluloid. Actually, I think the green was once an ivory color that has “greened” a bit over time. This is an unbranded pen, but you can tell the quality of good pen maker is there. Gold-filled trim is in overall good condition with just a bit of wear on the lever. There is some light scratching from use on the body of the pen, but nothing very major. The 14kt. Warranted #4 nib is a wet writing F that is smooth and springy. The flex is very soft, almost in the wet noodle category, and it has a great range going from 0.4mm to 1.9mm. It is a bit finicky about the angle on the paper when you flex. If you start rolling your hand while flexing, it will railroad. If you maintain good form, however, you shouldn’t have any problems.
