Waterman 52 Red Ripple (Nickel Trim) – Super Flex/ Wet Noodle

Waterman 52 Red Ripple w/ Nickel Trim – Super Flex/ Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Here is a full sized Waterman 52 in Red Ripple hard rubber. This 52 was made in Canada but likely intended for the European market as it has nickel rather than gold-filled trim. It is also unusual as it does not have the typical band on the cap lip. The pen is in superb condition. There is just a whisper of fading of the hard rubber. Only by looking under the cap can you see just a tiny bit of fading. The nickel plated clip and lever are in great condition. There is just a tiny bit of scuffing on one edge of the clip. Imprints are very good and easy to read. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is wonderful. It’s a stubbish XF (0.3mm) with medium flow that writes smooth and with a touch of line variation. The nib has some very nice flex that comes easily. Ease of flex I would grade as wet noodle or near wet noodle. Responsiveness is also quite good. The flex range is from 0.3mm to 1.6mm. Overall, this is one outstanding pen.  (See Price Here)

Wahl Gold Filled Pen #3 Nib – Super Flex

Wahl Gold Filled #3 Nib – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a nice Wahl gold filled pen with clip. This is a larger 4 1/4″ pen with a #3 nib. The pen is in overall good condition.  There is some light scratching from normal use throughout the pen, but nothing deep or substantial. There are two very tiny dings on the ends of the pen (one on each end), but you would only notice them by looking very closely. There is no brassing that I could see. The black hard rubber section has faded some to a very brownish black. The 14kt. Wahl #3 nib has some great flex to it that comes with very little pressure. This nib is close to a wet noodle. It writes normally as a smooth F (0.4mm) that is wet but not gushing. The pen really lays down a lot of ink once you start flexing however. So much that it does affect the responsiveness of the pen a bit, but it is still pretty decent. The line variation is very good going from 0.4mm to 1.8mm. This is nice durable pen that can give you some great flex on the go.

Waterman 52V Olive Ripple Pen & Pencil Combo – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

Waterman 52V Olive Ripple Pen & Pencil Combo – SUPER FLEX  (See Price Here)

Here is a Waterman 52V Olive Ripple with matching Pencil. The Olive Ripple is one of the most difficult Ripples to come by and very collectable. The pair are in excellent condition with very little fading. The gold-filled trim is in excellent condition with no brassing. There is a slight scratch across the top of the lever, but that is about it. Imprints are good and readable. The matching pencil is not restored. I merely cleaned it up. I assume it’s functional but I haven’t tested it. The Waterman #2 14kt. nib is a nice XF point that writes smooth with a slightly stubbish feel. This nib has the circle rather than the heart air hole, and it has some scuffing on top of it wearing down the nib imprints some. The flex on this pen is quite soft and flexes quite easily up to 1.6mm. The nib is a bit finicky about the angle you hold the nib to paper. The feed keeps up well, but if you get off the right angle you can get some railroading.

SIZE:  4 3/8″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XF to BB (0.3mm-1.6mm),  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 52V – Good/Super Flex

Waterman 52V – GOOD/ SUPER FLEX (On Ebay)

Here is a good Waterman 52V in BCHR with nickel trim. The BCHR has browned to a dark brown. The chasing has worn some but still has a little bit of texture and is visible. Imprints are good and crisp. The nickel plated trim looks pretty good. A little bit of scuffing on the clip but no plate loss that I could see. The Waterman #2 14kt. nib is a smooth writing XF (0.3mm). It is about a 4 of 10 in wetness. The flex on this nib is a bit difficult to categorize. It’s on the stiffer side of super flex with decent responsiveness. It’s really on the border between good and super flex. Flow keeps up well with flexing, so you won’t have much or any railroading to worry about. Overall, a nice 52V.

Waterman 52 1/2V (Factory Italic) – GOOD FLEX (SOLD)

Waterman 52 1/2V (Factory Italic) – Good Flex  (On Ebay)

This a BCHR Waterman 52 1/2 V in decent condition. The BCHR has browned pretty significantly. The chasing is worn though visible. The imprints are also worn though mostly readable. This pen appears to have received a replacement lever at some point in its life as the ring top is rolled gold and the lever is nickel. The lever is in good shape as is the ring top. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a factory italic (about 0.6mm wide). The nib does have some decent flex that comes pretty easy. Italic nibs do enhance the flex nicely and this nib is no exception. A neat little pen.

SIZE:  4 1/4″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, F Italic to BB (0.6mm-1.6mm)  GOOD FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 54 – SUPER FLEX (XXF Nib) (SOLD)

Waterman 54 – Super Flex (XXF Nib)  (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 54 in BCHR. The black hard rubber has faded a bit but is still fairly black. The chasing is worn. It’s visible but has lost much of its texture. The chasing on the barrel is better. The imprints are still quite good. The nickel plated trim is in decent condition. There is some very minor pitting on the clip and some wear as well, but I don’t see actual plate loss. The nib on this pen is one of the most sought after nibs: a XXF with flex. This 14kt. Waterman #4 is a 0.2mm (XXF) with some nice flex up to 1.7.mm. The flex is a pretty soft super flex, though not a wet noodle. It has good responsiveness and nice flow. It writes normally pretty smoothly for such a fine tip.

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #4, XXF to BB (0.2mm-2.3mm),  Super Flex  (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex! (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (See Price Here)

This is a standard size Wahl-Eversharp Skyline in solid black. The gold-filled trim in in good condition with just a little bit of plate loss on the middle part of the lever. There is some light scratching throughout as is typical with these pens and most noticeable in the black models, but it is all very light and much has buffed out nicely. The cap has worn some rings on the barrel when it is screwed on an off. The 14kt. Eversharp nib is a wet writing F that really feels like a medium due to it’s wetness. It is smooth and juicy and flexes with ease up to 1.9mm. This is one of the softer flexing Skyline nibs I have used. They are generally a bit stiffer, but this one is nearing wet noodle status. The feed has no issues keeping up with flex work and dumps the ink on the page when flexing. You’ll get a lot of sheen with this pen.

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

NIB: Eversharp 14kt., F to BBB (0.4mm-1.9mm) SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Lever

  • Nib and feed adjusted for optimal flow
  • New sac installed
  • Pen thoroughly cleaned & flushed

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Semi-Flex (SOLD)

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Semi-Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a burgundy Skyline Standard size with a gold-filled cap. The pen is in decent condition. The main blemish on the pen is that there are tiny dings and scratches throughout the cap, though I do not see any plate loss on it. There is a tiny bit of plate loss on the middle of the lever. There is some very light scratching here and there on the body, but it is very minor and has mostly buffed out. The Eversharp 14kt. nib is a nice, smooth writing XF/F (0.35mm). It has about a medium wetness. I would say 4/10 in wetness, which seems positively dry compared to the typical gushing wetness of most Skylines. The nib does have some decent flex to it going up to 1.4mm. However, it is a bit stiffer than a “typical” Skyline flex nib and lacks the responsiveness of higher quality flex pens. Still, it has some easy to come by line variation.

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

NIB: Eversharp 14kt., XF/F to BBB (0.35mm-1.6mm) SEMI-FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Lever

  • Nib and feed ultrasonically cleaned
  • Nib and feed adjusted for optimal flow

Waterman 12 – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

Waterman 12 Eye Dropper – SUPER FLEX  (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 12 Eyedropper with patent dates of 1884, 1899 and  1903. This pen has two gold-filled bands on the barrel with a very lovely engraving. The initials on the band read “M.E.P.” The hard rubber has faded to a dark brown. The chasing has worn on the barrel. It is visible on places but smooth in others. The chasing on the barrel, though, is still quite good. The imprints are a little worn but still very readable and crisp. There are some teeth marks on the top of the cap (see pic). The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a very nice writing XF (0.3mm) that flexes quite easily up to 1.6mm. The pen has some very good responsiveness making for some very nice flex writing. The Waterman 12 is a classic and being an eyedropper holds plenty of ink and you don’t have to worry about railroading. Excellent pen!

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XF to BB (0.3mm-1.6mm),  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)
