Waterman 52 – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

Waterman 52 – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

Here is a fantastic, near mint Waterman 52. The black chased hard rubber is still very black with only the slightest amount of fading. Imprints are still crisp. The nickel trim is in very good condition with no brassing. Imprints are all crisp. But the best part of the pen is the 14kt. Waterman #2 nib. It’s a wet writing F that is very smooth and has near wet noodle flex. It has fantastic range going from 0.4mm to 2.3mm! That’s almost 2.0mm line variation. Flex is quite easy and responsive. Some would call this a wet noodle. I would say it misses the wet noodle grade by a hair, but it’s very close. A fantastic, near mint Waterman 52 with a great nib.

Waterman 52 Red Ripple – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

IMG_8888

Waterman 52 Red Ripple – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

This is lovely Waterman 52 Red Ripple pen. The color of the hard rubber on this pen is very good with minimal fading. Unfortunately, it is missing the original gold filled clip but put on a nice accommodation clip or get a clip replacement and this pen would look almost near mint. The gold-filled lever has a couple of very small spots of brassing but otherwise looks great. Imprints on the pen are nice and crisp. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a very smooth and soft writing XF. It has some good flex up to 2.0mm. That’s a great range of flex, but the I would grade the ease of flex and responsiveness on the lower side of super flex. Still it’s a fantastic writer with nice flex and in very good condition.

SIZE:  5 3/8″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XF to BB (0.3mm-2.0mm),  Super Flex  (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Wahl Wood Grain Flat Top w/ Roller Clip – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_8919

Wahl Wood Grain Flat Top w/ Roller Clip – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a 5 1/4″ Wahl Flat Top pen in a wood grain hard rubber. The hard rubber does have some fading but the color is still pretty good. The gold filled trim (clip, bands, lever) has scratches and small dings on it, but is free of brassing. There is a crack on lip of the cap (see pic) but the bands keep the crack from spreading. The lever is a bit raised from the pen, and there is a small crack coming from the hole of the lever pin into the lever box. There are also some light teeth marks on the end of the pen, but they are very light. The pen has a 14kt. Wahl #2 nib that has some nice flex. It goes from a F (0.4mm) to BBB (1.9mm). It is on the stiffer side of super flex, but it does have some good responsiveness. The nib writes normally as a wet and smooth F.

IMG_8922 IMG_8930

Parker Lucky Curve Lady Duofold – Semi Flex  – (On Ebay)

This is a three banded Lady’s size Parker Lucky Curve Duofold in very good condition. There is some color change in the body that is typical in these pens. There is a slight bit of color change on the cap as well. There is a bit of brassing on the bands and the top of the ball of the clip. The black hard rubber ends are still pretty black but do have some lights marks on them. Imprints all look good. The 14kt. Parker XF nib is a semi flex with a nice sweet spot that is smooth with good flow. An elegant feeling nib.

Moore Gold Filled Ring Top – Good Flex (SOLD)

IMG_8868

Moore Gold Filled Ring Top – Good Flex

Here is a vintage Moore gold filled ring top. I haven’t restored many Moore gold filled ring tops, and I am impressed with the quality construction of this one. The lever mechanism feels especially stout and smooth and the pen overall feels more solid than it’s Wahl and Waterman counterparts. The back of the barrel and top of the cap does have brassing. There is some light scratching throughout the pen but no dings or dents. It has the initials “V.M.F.” imprinted on the cap. The Moore 14kt nib is a smooth writing XF/ XXF (0.25mm) that is quite smooth. Unfortunately, the nib does have a small crack extending from the back of the breather hole to just short of the “E” in “THE.” The nib has good flex and is on the border between good and super flex. It has good range from XF to BBB (1.8mm). It doesn’t quite have the ease of flex and steady flow of super flex, but it has a responsiveness that is as good or better than most super flex nibs.

SIZE:  3 3/4″ Capped

NIB: Moore #2, XXF/XF to BBB (0.25mm-1.8mm),  MEDIUM FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Lever

  • Pen thoroughly cleaned & flushed
  • Nib polished and tuned to write smoothly
  • Nib and feed ultrasonically cleaned and adjusted for optimal flow
  • Pen body buffed and polished
  • New sac installed

Waterman 12 Red Mottled – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

IMG_8856

Waterman 12 Red Mottled – SUPER FLEX  (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 12 Red mottled eyedropper with patent dates of 1899 and 1903. This hundred year old pen is still in very good condition. The only real blemish is that the pen looks to originally have had a clip. At some point it was lost and replaced with this “Listo” accommodation clip, which is in pretty good shape. The red mottled hard rubber is in very nice shape with little fading. Imprints are all crisp. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a great, smooth writing XF nib that doesn’t write overly wet. It has a good range of flex from 0.3mm (XF) to BBB (2.0mm). The does not have wet noodle ease of flex, but it does have great responsiveness. It’s snappy and crisp and allows for some great quality flex writing. A fantastic vintage flex pen.

SIZE:  5 1/4″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XF to BBB (0.3mm-2.0mm),  SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Eye-Dropper

Waterman Canadian Dauntless – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_8838

Waterman Canadian Dauntless – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is a Canadian made Waterman. It is the more affordable version of the Stalwart known as the Dauntless. The pen is made of the grey pearl celluloid. There is just a bit of darkening of the body toward the front of the pen. The chrome trim shows a bit of wear mostly on the clip. The lever sticks out just a bit from the body. This lever is a held in by a spring much like an Esterbrook rather than the traditional Waterman lever box. The thin gold filled band around the cap looks great as do the imprints. The Waterman #2 14kt. nib is a very wet writing F that is smooth with just a little feedback. The nib does have about a 1mm crack coming out from the vent hole to the right of the nib (the right from backside). I have had the pen for a couple of months and the crack seems pretty stable. It is a very soft, super flex nib. It has great ease of flex. Just don’t push it to the limit and this nib will still last a good long time.

SIZE:  5″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, F to BB (0.4mm-1.7mm) SUPER FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

FILLING: Lever
