Waterman 55 – Super Flex (SOLD)

Waterma 55 – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 55 in smooth black hard rubber. The pen is in great condition having only faded a little to a slightly brownish black. This is a large pen measuring about 5 1/2″ with about a 12mm barrel diameter. Substantially bigger than a 52. The gold filled trim is in very good condition with only a tiny bit of brassing on the lever and some on the ball of the clip (though it blends so well with the rest of the clip it doesn’t really look like it). The pen has some inscriptions. On one side of the lever it reads “W.C. Cadwallader” and on the other side “Underground Department – 1930 Accident Prevention Group – Philadelphia Electric Company.” Imprints and inscriptions are all very crisp. The star of the pen is the 14kt. Waterman #5 nib. It is not easy to find vintage flex nibs this large, but this one is a superb “super flex.” It writes as a smooth XF (0.3mm) normally and flexes all the way to 2.3mm with very good responsiveness. It is a near wet noodle, but not quite. Still an amazing pen and quite difficult to find in this size.

Wahl BCHR Flat Top with “Flexible” Nib – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_8519

Wahl BCHR Flat Top with “Flexible” Nib – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

This is a nice Wahl BCHR flat top in excellent condition. The hard rubber still quite black with very little fading. The chasing is also good. There is a little bit of brassing at the top of the clip and a little bit on the center edges of the lever. The bands look very good. This Wahl has a 14kt. Wahl-Eversharp “Flexible” nib, and it is that. Unfortunately, there is a small crack coming out of the right side of the breather hole. The crack appears quite stable and does not affect the writing performance of the nib. The nib is stubbish and writes a very wet, smooth fine (0.5mm) line. The flex on this pen is very easy and pretty snappy. It is almost a wet noodle in ease of flex and has a great range of flex from 0.5mm all the way to 2.2mm (F-BBB).

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_8522

Wahl-Eversharp Skyline – Super Flex – (On Ebay)

Here is a beautiful standard size Wahl Eversharp Skyline in black with gold filled cap and trim. This Skyline is in great condition. There is some  light scratching on the body and a few very small dings and some light scratching on the cap. There is also a personalization on the side that reads “Larry Whidden.” There is little to no brassing on the pen. The 14kt. Eversharp nib writes normally as an XF. It is untypical of a Skyline nib in that it isn’t very wet but it does write very smoothly and is not overly dry. I would classify this nib on the end of “super flex,” but it still has some very good responsiveness. A little pressure really unleashes a very substantial flow of ink and then responds well to XF. A great pen in good condition.

Waterman 12V PSF – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

IMG_8399

Waterman 12V PSF – SUPER FLEX (On Ebay)

Here is a Waterman 12V PSF and not a 52V as the above picture states. Oops. The 12V PSF is identical to and the predecessor of the 52V. The BCHR on this pen has faded a grayish brown. The chasing is worn but still has texture. The imprints are pretty good. The nickel plated lever and clip are both in good condition with minimal plate wear and almost no wear that you can see without magnification. The 14kt. #2 Waterman nib is a wet writing F/M (0.5mm) that is really a fine stub. The left tine has a tiny bit of a wave to it, but that does not affect the writing or flex. The nib does have some nice flex going up to 2.0mm. Ease of flex is on the bottom end of the “super flex” grade,” but it has a good spring and responsiveness to it.

SIZE:  4 3/8″ Capped

Waterman 52 – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

IMG_8420

Waterman 52 – Super Flex  (On Ebay)

This Waterman 52 is in very good condition. The BCHR is still quite back with only light fading. It’s browned a little but only very slightly. The casing is quite good with a lot of texture left. The imprints are very crisp. The nickel plated lever and clip do have some plate wear, but they look pretty good to just an eyeball test. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is a wet stubbish F/M (around 0.5mm) depending on the ink. It is also a oblique (see pic of the underside of the nib). At one point it appears that this nib sustained a little bending. It has a little wave in the tines, but this does not appear to affect the performance of the nib. It writes very wet normally and smooth if you write at the proper angle. It has near wet noodle ease of flex and very good responsiveness and goes up to 2.1mm (BBB).

Waterman 12 1/2 Eyedropper – Good Flex (SOLD)

FullSizeRender

Waterma 12 1/2 Eyedropper – Good Flex (On Ebay)

This Waterman 12 1/2 eyedropper is in good condition. There is some minor fading to the black hard rubber making it appear a dark brown. The gold filled bands are in good condition, but the back band does have a few small spots of brassing. The imprints very crisp and there was no original chasing on the pen. There are a few tiny chips out the the lip of the cap maybe a millimeter. Very small. The 14kt. #2 Waterman nib is a soft and smooth writing XF. The flex on this was kind of difficult for me to judge. These pens are quite petite and that affects the feel of the flex. Many would call this nib a semi-flex. The reason I have graded it higher is because it has a nice spring to it. Not soft enough to be a super flex but good enough for me to grade it as a  “good flex” nib.

SIZE:  4 5/8″ Capped

NIB: Waterman #2, XF to BBB (0.3mm-1.6mm),  GOOD FLEX (See “Grading Flex Nibs” for How I Grade)

Waterman 12 Sleeve Filler (Rare) – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8081

Waterman 12 Sleeve Filler – Wet Noodle  See Price Here

Here is one of the most rare filling systems you will find on a Waterman. The pen has a sleeve hiding an opening in the barrel where there is a bar that you push to fill the pen. You simply slide the sleeve back, immerse the pen, and push the bar. These have a slip cap similar to a 12 eyedropper, but a bit longer. The BCHR is faded to a brown and the chasing is worn but not entirely without texture. The imprints are still pretty good and very readable. The squeeze bar has lots most of it’s original paint. The pen sports a very nice 14kt. Waterman #2 that writes superbly as an XF. Very smooth. It also has some great flex going from 0.3mm to 2.3mm. This is not a paintbrush wet noodle, and really is on the border between super flex and wet noodle as far as ease of flex is concerned. But the nib is very responsive and easy to control. A great and rare pen. See Price Here

Mabie Todd Swan – Wet Noodle (SOLD)

IMG_8360

Mabie Todd Swan- Wet Noodle (See Price Here)

Here is a made in England Mabie Todd “Swan” with an over/ under feed. The black chased hard rubber has faded to a dark brown and the chasing is pretty worn though lightly visible. The imprints are also worn, thought mostly readable. This is a thin pen similar thickness to a #2 pencil. The 14kt. Mabie Todd nib is a great wet noodle nib with near paintbrush ease of flex. This is an eyedropper pen, and being as thin as it is and having such a wet feed it is very important that you keep the barrel half full or so of ink. If less than that, the thin internal chamber will get warm and the warm air will push out the ink much faster resulting in gushing. But if you keep it half full, you should be good to go. The nib writes smooth and wet normally as a F (0.4mm) and flexes all the way up to 2.2mm. For how wet it is, it still maintains quite good responsiveness. Overall a great, hard to come by flex pen.  (See Price Here)

Waterman 52V Cardinal Red – SUPER FLEX (SOLD)

IMG_8365

Waterman 52V Cardinal Red – SUPER FLEX (On Ebay)

Here is a rare and gorgeous Waterman 52V in Cardinal Red with superb gold-filled trim. The Cardinal Red (I know, it’s orange!) is one of the rarer styles of these Waterman pens. Even more so that the Red Ripples. The pen is in good condition overall. This type of hard rubber is prone to staining from dirt and ink sitting on it for decades. There are a few small spots that have some very light staining. There is also some darkening on the barrel and section that is under the cap, which is from the dirt and ink that sat inside the cap. The side imprint is almost worn entirely off, but the 52V on the back is still crisp. But overall, this pen looks great. The gold filled clip, thick band, and lever have no brassing that I can find and look fantastic. The 14kt. Waterman #2 nib is very glassy smooth writing F (0.4mm) and has good flex up to 2.0mm that comes with pretty easy. A fantastic, very collectible pen.

Wahl Gold Filled Ring Top – Super Flex (SOLD)

IMG_8336

Wahl Gold Filled Ring Top – Super Flex (On Ebay)

Here is a lovely little Wahl Gold Filled Ring Top. The pen is in good condition overall. There is no real brassing on the pen that I could find except for a couple tiny spots on the lever. There is one small ding on the cap (see pic). The pen has no personalization on it. On the metal threads there are a few nicks on the bottom of them. The pen still threads shut pretty smoothly. It’s just more a cosmetic thing than a functional thing. There is also some of the metal layer on the bottom of section closest to the nib that has worn away (see pics). This is a very common problem for these pens, but it doesn’t affect the performance of the pen. The 14kt. Wahl #2 is a buttery smooth F (0.4mm). An absolute pleasure to write with. It writes with a medium wetness. It has some nice flex up to 2.0mm and with decent responsiveness and good flow. A great portable flex pen.
